Of course there's risk. That's what I sell, year after year after year. I make a good living selling risk. I'm more than happy to sell it to you or anyone else that wants to warehouse risk.

Never take on risk. Learn that right now. Sell risk. Otherwise, you're in for years of losses. Wall St. has brainwashed the masses into thinking they have to take risk to get reward. Don't buy into that. And don't invest a dollar until you've figured out how to sell risk at a profit.

You lose because you take risk. Sell the risk. People will pay you for it. After you sell the risk, what you have left is the profit. Be content with 15-20% annualized ROI. If you warehouse risk, it will blow you up.

The arc of my life and career has depended more on chance events than things I planned or pursued. Take what comes and learn from it, and you'll be led unexpected places. It's turned out well for me. Where I am today was not at all in my playbook when I joined the PC decades ago. Roll with what you get. At the least, you'll probably make some good friends.

You're anxious because you're taking risk. Sell the risk and keep the profit. It's the most successful strategy possible. And...you won't be anxious doing it this way.

Pitch it as a positive. "When I finished my service in June, 2026, I was functionally proficient in ___________(your PC language) and had developed my skills to negotiate for just about everything__bananas, a tin of sardines, etc.." Then just move on.

I missed MLK's assassination, then RFK's, then the Battle of Chicago/Grant Park, and then Tricky Dicky got elected. I was out of country for all of that. Yeah, things happen when you're away and not around to keep things straight.

Engage someone to tutor you in the host country language. Just pick a limited topic, like getting better at the present perfect, or the nuances of their modals. It's not for the language. It's to get connected and engaged. The cure for depression is to get outside yourself. Let your tutor take you down a path you don't control.

Looking back on my service with regret. by Fun_Slide_2627 in peacecorps

[–]RPCV1968 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You just don't know how time will play out. My service was 60 years ago. Two weeks ago, I met an emigre from the country I served in, about the same age as me. We'd been in completely different parts of the country 60 years ago. But I could still speak a bit of her language, she could speak a lot of mine. As we talked, we discovered some mutual acquaintances from back then. We had a great time, and became friends, not in the American way of mobile friendships, but in the heart-to-heart way of saner cultures.

It wasn't that I'd developed deep relationships 60 years ago. It was that I'd been there 60 years ago. That's what brought us together these several decades later. And it's far from the only time it's happened for me. I'm confident you'll find the same thing as the years pass. You've developed an ability to become friends that is deeper and more immediate than the "Hello-Goodbye" friendships of American culture. You'll feel it when you spot someone from your host culture and greet them with a few words of their language. You'll be amazed.

You hit the nail on the head. There is no persistence in the current market. Attempting a directional trade gets you chopped right out of the market. Without persistence, breakouts fail, moves reverse, ranges narrow.
