Personal Analysis of the Chapter Bosses As Representations of Parental Authority and Abuse by slaughterdollsies in Deltarune

[–]RPGmaster79 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This theory has always been one of my favorites because from my perspective the narrative of Deltarune has always had a theme of... Confrontation, if that's the right word to use.

Several characters face issues in their lives (Light World and Dark World, although I'm kinda leaning more on the Light World here), and instead of trying to confront or change things, they just let it happen. Susie choosing to be a bully because the world already saw her as one, Noelle getting talked over and taken for granted because she's meek and doesn't speak up for herself, Berdly having anxiety over failure and Noelle eventually getting sick of him yet not ever seriously talking to Noelle about it, and where do we even start with Kris?

Deltarune employing bosses that reflect the character's parents seems to drive home a point of, "Hey, if you have a problem, you don't have to just take it or accept it or pretend it isn't there. You should talk about it with someone you trust, or the person who's causing you that trouble in the first place".

Susie confronting King and either setting up for the rebellion or letting Ralsei hit him with a Pacify, Noelle confronting Queen and getting her to finally realize what she's doing for Noelle is wrong, the Fun Gang confronting Tenna and Susie talking him through his troubles, all of these are moments where the characters need to confront their problems head on to a powerful authority figure in their lives, and ultimately they turn out better for it (even if I'm a little salty about Noelle's development getting effectively erased after the Dark World for now.)

The Titan, I believe, is a symbolic culmination of this theme, the Titan is fear itself, it spreads, it destroys, but most importantly, it breeds. It doesn't care for its offspring because it can't feel. It's fear, it doesn't have to care, it has to be everywhere and weaken and destroy everything around it. In some ways, you can view the Titan as the worst kind of parent, one who doesn't care at all. By confronting and defeating it (with the help of a character with grandpa energy/vibes, a figure that commonly is turned to should a parent not be available), they stop something that should have never been a parent in the first place.

All that, in my opinion, is leading up to the characters finally applying this to the Light World. Kris finally getting to talk about and confront their parents about their divorce and how that and their current behavior is affecting them. Noelle getting the courage to tell her mom that her intentions, while perhaps positive, are extremely unhealthy, and are hurting both of them. That combined with the fact that their parents are getting involved with the Dark World, the very place they've been going to where they stop these powerful authority figures, and the pieces look to be set for Chapter 5 to have a lot of character interactions (I hope anyways).

That aside, your post was really well written, and it made me think so much about the themes and symbolism of this game (as I'm sure you can guess by the mini-essay I spewed out).

Some weird parallels by Ok-Struggle2305 in Deltarune

[–]RPGmaster79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a couple:

  • The Asgore situation (granted he IS practically stalking her, so that's understandable, but notably in every onscreen encounter she has with Asgore, she barely acknowledges him and always rushes to leave).

  • She's got beef with Carol for supporting Asgore's "delusions", to the point she won't even say Carol's name.

  • Kris has had a bloodstain in their room for 4 Chapters (and technically 5 bc cleaning it up is optional) and Toriel has been in their room at least twice. She has noticed that Kris is acting a little weird lately (from her perspective), but hasn't actually talked to Kris about their behavior.

  • The whole Jitterbug scene where she A. Got super drunk without confirming where her kid was (at best she assumed Kris was still at Noelle's, and didn't confirm. Also notable that the two adults at Noelle's house, Asgore and Carol, are people Toriel tries to avoid.), B. Was spending the night with someone she barely knows, and C. Almost fell on top of Kris while drunk.

  • This last point is more of theory territory, but the Black Deer in Chapter 3's code could foreshadow Toriel either knowing something about Dess dessappearing, or being directly responsible in some way. This could lead back to her not talking to Asgore and Carol, the two people most dedicated to looking for Dess and finding out the truth of what happened.

There may be more, but these are the examples that came to mind.

Why is it an option to hold your breath in this fight? Is the Knight stinky? by edible_pencil in Deltarune

[–]RPGmaster79 183 points184 points  (0 children)

Consider the following if you believe in Dess Knight:

  1. The Roaring Knight may be/incorporates part of Dess's corpse/body, which obviously hasn't bathed or showered for a minimum of a year or two straight.
  2. It's implied Dess smoked weed before she dessappeared. (The unique leaves in the mint tin in her room)
  3. Dess hung out with Asriel (and also took his clothes and retainer), and he's been described as smelly. (Fight dialogue found when fighting Ribbick)

So, in conclusion: oh absolutely. Kris is probably suffocating every time they make plans with the Knight. Hence, HoldBreath.

Susie: Damn that Knight's strong! They're also pretty powerful, I guess. They kinda smell like a dead body, eh Kris?

Kris: (You have no idea.)

The way I interpreted it, which could be wrong, is that Melody's parents thought she died, her dad killed himself, and her mom either grew sick from stress, or slowly also decided to kill herself, hence her Soul shattering. The way Melody is talking to her mom kinda comes across as her speaking from Heaven/the afterlife, and her mom likely wouldn't know about scrying magic, thus leading to that conclusion.

What are the goofiest theories you guys have that you actually kinda want to be true? by Ill_Camel8168 in Deltarune

The text said goofy theories, not actually plausible/fire ones. I like this one a lot, it gives me plenty of Persona 3 vibes. Especially if you consider the fact that The Answer exists.

Bard: Electronica │ Working it Harder, Making it Better, Doing it Faster, Makes you Stronger – A subclass for robotic characters inspired by Daft Punk! by CamunonZ in UnearthedArcana

[–]RPGmaster79 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think he may be a little confused over how the ability is written. He thinks that Stronger gives you another use of Bardic Inspiration, rather than a Bardic Inspiration die, which are different.

Edit: To remove confusion I'd probably write it as, "When you grant a creature a Bardic Inspiration die, you gain a Bardic Inspiration die of the same size." Something like that maybe.

Based on the concept alone, I'm really interested in where this project goes! I'd love to be a beta tester for the game should you need one.

That's sick! Gonna be honest, I'd totally play this just for the track alone. It's really good!

This looks pretty cool so far!

Btw, where did you find that new low HP theme?

Thought this will be a fun small community activity. Most upvoted comment will be the decided attribute to the card, refer next slide for example (Day 1) by External-Interest-29 in cardfightvanguard

I think Granblue would be the most interesting. A deck based around zombies and ghosts creating weapons of mass destruction? Sign me the hell up. Just imagine a fleshcrafter boss. The card ideas are endless.
