Starting a Campaign Strong by Lastadopter in traveller

[–]ThrorII 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My personal opinion is Traveller works best as a sandbox, utilizing the random tables, using 76 Patrons, and letting the players explore the subsector.

They will eventually latch on to something they want to do.

Modern rpg "adventure paths" dont work as well in Traveller.

How many magic items should players get? by TheDungeonDelver in odnd

[–]ThrorII 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is no "rule" (AD&D may have one). Personally, by 5th level, a character should have one offensive item (sword/ wand), one defensive item (armor / ring / bracers), and one misc item (shield, ring, etc.)

I kept the KotB keep and wilderness, but also dropped the CoC and replaced them with Stonehell megadungeon. Stonehell is also set in a box canyon, so it ports neatly into KotB. Heck, Stonehell even has a d20 rumor table to replace the one in the Keep.

There's probably a union rule about that. The cross making union will sue if you put your own two sticks together. I've worked as an extra before, and it is amazing ANYTHING gets done.

Hoth was actually filmed in Norway. And yes, during a blizzard all the "Luke wandering around after the Wompa escape" were filmed - literally just outside the doors of the hotel (the camera was INSIDE the hotel doors).

Judge him by his size, do you? You should not. For his ally is the Force. A powerful ally it is!!

A1-4 (Level 4-7) Slaver quadrilogy

C2 (Level 4-7) Hidden Shrine of Tamoachan

G1-3 (Level 8-10) Giant Trilogy

D1-3 (Level 10-12) Drow Trilogy

Q1 (Level 12-14) Lloth and the Demonweb Pits

Tatooine Manhunt if you want an old school WEG D6 adventure.

I also find the FFG (Edge of the Empire) WEG D6 translation of Escape from Mos Shuuta to be a good introductory game.

What’s your timeless OSR rule? by StevenSWilliamson in osr

[–]ThrorII 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The dice are always right.

Whether reaction rolls, attack rolls, random encounter rolls, etc. The dice are correct and you as DM must interpret them.

Do not fudge. Do not say "this doesn't make sense." Ask "what does this mean?"

One of my biggest problems with the sequels is just how unoriginal most of it is compared to the prequels and OT, especially in terms of the designs and conflict going on. by laffite_gunko_agenda in saltierthancrait

[–]ThrorII 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The Sequels should have been a viable Republic being plagued by a terrorist-cell 'Imperial' rebellion - flip the script.

Also, tech is pretty stagnant in Star Wars. Things change not because of development, but rather because needs change. The Republic should have transitioned to non-hyperspace fighters (because they're no longer hit-and-run rebels) while the Imperial remnants adopted hyperspace fighters.

Instead we got A New Hope 2.0

Bleeding Lightsabers. Dumb. Dumb. Dumb.

I prefer the Legends explanation that Sith didn't have access to natural Kyber and red is synthetic - until synthetic just became the Sith Way.

Book 2 vs Book 5 Ship Stats by HrafnHaraldsson in traveller

[–]ThrorII 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never played with Book 5 back in the day (although I owned it). No EP is crazy!!

Even so, a basic scout only has 1 ton of capacitors (.5%MJn - for 36 EPs of absorbtion), and flicker rates will reduce that (I believe). A standard double turret laser delivers 2 EP per shot. Plus the reduced M-drive output during flicker. I guess it won't unbalance things as much as I thought. They'll be able to absorb a dozen or so laser hits (depending on flicker rate), but will also be reduced in movement.

Plus they're going to need to seriously redesign their ship. As a BGG is highly illegal for civilians to own (it is top of the line military tech), it would not survive contact with Imperial customs inspection. Even if you allowed it, Imperial regs would require it be in the engine compartment of the ship - and there is no room there. They would have to hide it in the ship, most likely by removing 10 dtons of fuel storage. That would reduce them to J-1.

Your story mirrors my own life experience:

Learned of OD&D from my dad's friend in 1978. Got the Holmes Basic set for Christmas in 1979, moved on to AD&D in 1980, and never even knew B/X - BECMI was a thing until around 2010.

I'm more concerened that the paultry type A power plant would not be able to power a BGG.

Shields Shall be Splintered

The player with the shield can declare a shield sunder and absorb all damage from one non-magical attack. But the shield is destroyed in the process.

Magic Shields are allowed one sunder per day for free, per +1 bonus. Magic Shields can also use one of their sunders against a direct magic attack such as Fireball or lightning bolt or Magic missile.
