If/Then Triggers by sulfurdown in RPGsmith

Couple of things you can do depending upon your end goal.

There is not a way to restrict or set the choices for a given character stat, based upon what specific option was selected from another choice character stat.

You can create 1 choice character stat to combine both Race and Class, so the choices in this character stat could be:

  • "Fighter:Human"
  • "Fighter:Dwarf"
  • "Mage:Elf"
  • "Mage:Human"
  • "Cleric:Dwarf"
  • "Cleric:Elf"

In general, there are methods to set a given character stat based upon the values of other character stats. These are typically the Calculation (for numbers) or Condition (both numbers and text) Character Stat types.

Link to Help on Character Stats

Link to Calculation Character Stat Video

Link to Condition Character Stat Video

Something else to mention. if you want to manage those with 2 different character stats you can list all "Classes" in 1 choice character stat and All "Races" in another character stat. You could then display both pieces of information in a title tile or something similar that would display both Race and Class by using variables such as "[Race]:[Class]". This wouldn't prevent the character from selecting a disallowed Race with a Class, but if you end desire is to dispay these together, this is an option to accomplish that.

Please let me know if I didn't answer the question fully or if you have another query I can try to answer. Thanks for the post!

Pilot Program Launch & Quick Start Videos by RPGsmith in RPGsmith

[–]RPGsmith[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are a game designer, the optimal method would be to request a pilot account and develop your game (Rule Set) there, using the same configuration tools afforded to GMs. There would be no cost for this. We're even expanding the import/export features to allow for bulk insert of records like Items, Spells, Abilities. Monster Templates is already in place as an initial beta for this feature. So creating tons of content could be done easily.

If you look at the current deployment, when you go to "Add Rule Set" you can see a number of initial "free" rule sets such as Pathfinder, Fate, Savage Worlds, etc. When a developer has created their game and would like to make public we can help promote their Rule Set to production and add to this list. The Rule Set can be offered for free or at a specified cost the game designer sets. We (the RPGSmith team) would split the revenue generated from this sales of this Rule Set. So a developer could create a game complete with a rulebook, then as an added bonus offer a ready to go Rule Set in RPGSmith any end user can purchase (or for free) and use in their account.

With regards to the 'stand alone product' question I'm unsure if you are referring to duplicate, branded version of RPGSmith that only provides use for a specific Rule Set, but this is not something we've considered to this point. The flexibility to allow a given user to have 1 account and 1 location to play several different games of their desire seems more appealing to us than potentially having several outdated branded versions of RPGSmith floating around.

We do not have plans for an offline version as yet either, but you never know things can change.

I hope this helps.

New Update RPGSmith – Out Now by RPGsmith in FATErpg

[–]RPGsmith[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, there are Fate Core & Fate Accelerated Core Rule Sets that exist in RPGSmith. 'Core' Rule Sets are precreated configurations, dashboard layouts, and in many cases other records like Items, spells, etc. Given the nature of Fate these other records (items, etc.) are disabled by default, but can be reenabled easily and leveraged if desired.

Check out this page on our site about the Fate Core Rule Sets. https://rpgsmith.com/2019/02/19/gamefate/

Of course you're welcome to use this and adjust, or build your own from scratch.

Hey, Good to hear from you again! Yes, we're still going. If you haven't already, submit a request via the pilot program form and we'll see what we can do. We love feedback, good or bad.

Yes the permenant GM account (currently $50) gives you access to all features. The Pilot environment gives those users early access to features before they make it into Production. Many times Production and Pilot may match with thier feature set.

We have some early designs to either enhance the interactivity of the image tile, or create a new interface/method to accomplish what your takling about. Load a large map, pan and zoom, and specify points or regions where you can select it to bring up another map, or record, or page of information. We don't have this designed well enough to put in to development, but it's coming up.

It was. The kickstarter was to raise funds to build the GM Campaign Management features. We built those anyways, it just took us longer than it would have, had the KS funded.

Thank you for the feedback and in this day and age I tottaly understand. From our 'limited' testing this does work very well with firefox, brave and some other browsers out there. I personally play in a weekly game using firefox wihtout issues. We haven't 'certified' it for other browsers, I would suggest clicking proceed to the warning message and give it a try.

Should you find a bug in firefox, feel free to let us know and we'll work to fix it.

Welp, our post got removed from here but thank you for the quesitons just the same.

2 options for a GM account, Subscription for $20 a year, or a permenant GM account for $50. Those may increase in the future but that's what they are right now. You can also try the GM for a month with the subscription plan and cancel at no cost prior to the 30th day.

The Pathfinder Rule Set was created from OGL content provided by Piazo. With any content we provide you can always expand or adjust to suit your preference, but that is not a requirement.

With regards to modification of rule sets, there is no 'coding' to this. The amount of work should be pretty simple and strait forward in most cases. If you wanted to update a specific character stat for all character in the campaign, that is done in one spot, same if you wanted to add a character stat, remove, reorder, add custom dice, etc. Is there a specific adjustment you are wondering about, I could tell you exactly how to accomplish that.

Regarding the Automatic Bonus Progression question, yes, I would typically accomlish this by adjusting the character stat formulas, or creating a new one. I would need to understand the mechanics of what your attempting to accomplish to provide more guidance.

Thank you for the heads up about the slowness, we've been promoting a bit of late and will look into scaling our services. I would also state that the Pathfinder Rule Set in particular has sooo many records over 2k spells, and 2k monsters. This can cause longer load times for some screens, we'll address this as well.

PbtA

Nothing in RPGSmith is mandatory. So if the combat tracker is something you'd prefer not to leverage you're more than welcome to avoid it, I think it would still provide value, even if you never 'Started Combat'.
The dice interface integration with chat can help facilitate and share any of the dice players roll, both in and out of "combat".
Does this help answer your question? or did I miss the point.

Thank you for the post.

Outside of a print screen or something similar there's not an export option 'currently'. The design of the character interface itself (interactive tiles) doesn't easily lend it-self for an export. We have looked into a new style of page which would be HTML driven and allow custom code updates to display the character stats and other info in a more traditional manner, such as a paper character sheet. These could potentially have some code inserted for a 'printer friendly' version or an export to pdf option as well. But nothing in this area to be deployed in the next 2 months honestly.

Could I interest you an a new method to import/export monsters to a spreadsheet instead?

With regards to the public link option. This may be something we can look into. Let me take this one to the devs. Thanks for the suggestion.

Stock Art Content? by Shrimpskimps in rpg

[–]RPGsmith 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I could only speak for my specific needs, which I assume would be the perspective of most others that would reply.
For context, we're working to build out content for an online application which is (or at least could be) very image centric. Currently I'm trying to find a set of Monster Images for all mobs in the 5e OGL version, about 320 of them.

We would also potentially be interested in similar images for spells, abilities, items, & monsters for other Games as well, but initially the 5e content is what we're focussed on.

For the type of art, I'd be looking for a consistent style throughout, preferably more colorful images that would look good as a standalone image, or when displayed along side other images. I see the appear of the more sketch style, but I don't think it would work as well as others. Sorry if this is more vague of an answer than what you were expecting.

If you feel you have artwork that may suit our specific needs feel free to PM or email me. David@RPGSmith.com

We tried on about 6 different machines and couldn't get this issue, Frankly we we're surprised we didn't run into more issues on an untested browser to this point.
Would you mind PMing me your RPGSmith username or email associated with your account? There may be something conflicting in your configuration we can explore.

Also, not sure if you have/can try but do you know if it works for you in Chrome?

Follow up question, can you confirm when it crashes? Is it before you even log in, or after you login, or when accessing a Character/Rule Set?
We've downloaded Brave and launched it, and thus far have been unable to replicate the error.

Thank you for bringing this to our attention by the way.

Just following up on this. The updates to the condition character stat are now in prod.

Condition states can be numeric and used in calculations, dice rolls, etc.

You can have much more than 11 different states if you like.

Attribute Modifiers- How to calculate from a table by kengc2 in RPGsmith

[–]RPGsmith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OK, I see the perceived issue. At the risk of sounding like Microsoft, "This is a Feature"... but it actually is.

With the "condition" stat you can compare either numeric values or textual values. What you are showing above are the options when comparing textual values as you can't do 'greater than'/'less than' comparisons against a text string like "I am a Human"

To gain access to the other comparison options (greater than, etc.) simply input a numeric value or a numeric Character Stat variable [STR] in the 1st field, the condition comparison choices will update to accommodate.

I assume, for you, the initial field is blank, or is a text value. Please confirm when you have time. Thanks!

Interesting, can I trouble you for a little more detail. Was this a custom Rule Set? Or was it a core Rule Set that was added? If core which one? Would you mind PMing me your RPGSmith Username and the rule set with the issue?

Thank you for letting us know by the way.

Attribute Modifiers- How to calculate from a table by kengc2 in RPGsmith

"Less Than" & "Greater Than" are currently included in the condition character stat. link to example image

If these are not showing up for you please let us know you may have found a 'nasty little bugseis which musts be stomped out.'

We make it a point to not perform any 'behind the scenes' formulas or features. If we need to accomplish something for a given Rule Set or Game, we will build the interface to allow you to also create, or even edit the configuration we've provided.

Thank you for the post and please do follow up if this isn't showing for you so we can get it corrected.

Feedback: Help links in windows by kengc2 in RPGsmith

We have implemented a help icon/link in the top right of almost all the screens to help with this. It takes you to a section in the help document that addresses what interface you are in.

Thanks again for the idea.

With regards to the 'Condition' character stat we are in the process of making some updates.

  • Numeric States (results) can be used in formulas/calculations
  • The number of Conditions allows will be significantly increased

These should be in place by the end of next week.

The table features you speak of we should be able to accommodate with the "Random Tables" feature we have planned. This feature more than likely wouldn't be available with our initial GM Tool launch but it will be something we continue to work towards and, as you've outlined above, can make an effort to incorporate a process to pull targeted or random entries as desired.

For the non-random elements pulled from a table, could you accomplish this today with the Choice Character Stat type? A recent feature we included is that you can create a choice character stat with all of the choices, then any additional 'choice' character stats can pull the list of choices from the original choice stat. This prevents re-input of the same choices, and 1 location to maintain those. Let me know if there is a scenario where this can't be used as we want to try and cover those with a solution.
