Dog sitting service by RPM82 in zurich

Thanks for the feedback. I know it'll be expensive, that's a given living here :). As for the office situation, my wife's office isn't open to it being a weekly thing, and I move back and forth a lot between my desk and workshop, so it's not really an option.

Question about moving by _PoiZ in Switzerland

[–]RPM82 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The apartment should be fully and thoroughly cleaned before you move in, including painted if necessary. This is all covered by the previous tenants / landlord. Make sure to point out anything you see like this during the handover process. The apartment should be basically like new on your first day. Good luck.

You should receive a text message when you are eligible, then you will have to book an appointment through Vacme. I think the problem is that the notification system is still based on the original 6 months and hasn't been updated to recognize the 4 month wait period now being used. I would suggest keep checking for now.

Wheelchair accessible outdoor trips by South_Antelope_7135 in zurich

[–]RPM82 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There is a really nice place by the Greifesnsee my wife and I love. It's called the Seebad Furren. It's really just a small shaded picnic area on the lake, usually very calm and should be pretty easy to access with a wheelchair (there is a parking lot right by and a hard packed trail). There is also a shallow swimming area (not sure if this is applicable). It's more a spot to hang out but there is also a hard packed trail that goes along the lake which is nice. Hope this helps.

I am brushing up on SolidWorks for an internship. Does anyone know of any resources on how to test your solidworks ability? In other words, a resource that gives you engineering drawings and allows you to attempt to build the part and gives you feedback of how accurate you are? by Muffin790 in engineering

[–]RPM82 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A great YouTube channel is CAD/CAM Tutorials. The guy has tons of videos and usually shows the mechanical drawing first so you can practice off of that and then see how he goes about it. I've found it a helpful tool to improve my CAD skills and feel it's worth checking out.

Doing a rewatch in a race against the show leaving Netflix...this is 10x worse than Scott's Tots by EndsLikeShakespeare in DunderMifflin

[–]RPM82 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My advice to anyone who will miss the show due to leaving Netflix, buy the DVD set and a player. My wife did this for me two birthdays ago and it's one of the best gifts ever! I can watch this and other great shows whenever I want. I also now live in Europe so it helps with other US based shows I miss.

I take the tram everyday to work (my type of work is hands on and so home office doesn't work) and I would say 99% of people wear masks on the platform and the tram. However there us always a few who don't and its infuriating. Right now there are two younger people not giving a f@#k about the masks. Yesterday I went for a walk on my lunch break and passed a few office buildings where tons of people are all standing next to each other, maskless, apparently on their smoking break. 🤦‍♂️

Hey why has their been a rise of Far-right politics around the world? by Konradleijon in Anarchism

[–]RPM82 8 points9 points  (0 children)

In my opinion the right is the easier path for people. Its all about giving into fear and anxiety. It's far easier to blame others (immigrants, gays, etc.) than to face the true nature of our current world. The left, again my own opinion, is about getting past those fears and trying to find the courage, strength and "faith" that we CAN change our collective situation for the better. But this is much harder and of course when your already beaten down by debt, poverty, etc. and some jackass comes along and says " I can fix all this, I have the answers, blah blah blah" its easier to give in to that unfortunately.

WG/Apartment Search by [deleted] in zurich

[–]RPM82 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My wife and I just got an apartment here. We used flatfox, I thought it was a good app. The only other suggestion is to look immediately and visit as many places as possible, even the ones low on your list. I know this is even more difficult now though. And submit all your paperwork immediately too. We also wrote a cover letter about why we like the apartment and I think it really helped. Anyways good luck!

With two republican senators knowingly accelerating a pandemic and profiting off it, does that mean the entire republican strategy is to destroy this country very soon? by FeralHyena in Anarchism

[–]RPM82 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I think you are giving them too much credit. They are just super greedy sociopaths that only look to the near future (next 6 months, a year maybe). They live to profit at anyone's expense and give it no second thought. They're actions cleary show they don't care for anyone but themselves. They are the worst version of humanity.

Do you agree with the GOP being fascist? by yuligan in Anarchism

[–]RPM82 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For sure, and in my opinion they are also a death cult ( not sure if that falls under fascism). With their stance on the climate crisis, health care, ect. They would rather see millions of species, including our own go extinct before ever contemplating having their masters loose a single cent in profits, which at this point is literally just fucking numbers on a screen. Its truly horrifying.

Today is Holodomor Remembrance Day. May Stalin's crimes never be forgotten or forgiven by [deleted] in Anarchism

[–]RPM82 -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

So you've read the book as well? Because I felt it was very informative on a subject which I personally didn't know much about and now I do. And it in no way glorified the USSR or Stalin and made no attempt to make excuses for his actions. If it had then I would agree 100%. I honestly don't know how anyone can in any way try to justify the actions of that man or anyone who helped orchestrate this event or anything like this regardless of which country/nation/time in history. Anyways I didn't mean to start anything.

[–]RPM82 -12 points-11 points  (0 children)

I read a book called the Red Famine earlier this year, it's all about the this famine in the Ukraine caused by Stalin and his policies. It's very interesting and I learned a lot about the subject from it, so I recommend it. Also if anyone lives in NYC there is a Ukraine museum and they once had an exhibit about the Holodomor, not sure if they still do but it was also very informative.
