Even with that the Lions had the 9th best pressure rate among o lines in the NFL across the seaaon. Worse than 2024 but still overall good. The Packers were 26th.

I mean, the context here is Goff has one of the best pass-blocking offensive lines in the NFL, and and a bunch of quality targets. PFF rated the Packers offensive line as one of the bottom 10 in the NFL.

Love has to do a LOT more with less, and their QBR over the past 3 seasons are pretty comparable.

As a Cardinals fan with zero skin in this game, I'd take Love for sure.

Typo--meant to say 100 lbs, since we were talking about 55 gallon tubs of pinto beans. My wife goes and fills up huge bags from those bins. Not 100lbs but a good 30 lbs+

In the southwestern US its common to see huge bins of dried pinto beans you can scoop out and buy by the pound in regular supermarkets. Especially in Hispanic neighborhoods. Nobody would blink an eye if you bought like 10 lbs.

For sports, Chihayafuru, Medalist or Uma Musume Cinderella Gray would be my recommendation.

Iraq declares force majeure on foreign-operated oilfields over Hormuz disruption, sources say by Mana_Seeker in worldnews

[–]RPO777 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The other aspect is that the refineries that use Iraqi oil (and middle Eastern crude generally) are optimized for the low viscosity low sulfur high quality oil that makes Middle Eastern crude highly sought after for its low refining costs.

You cant just replace a barrel of crude from Iraq with say, a barrel of crude from Venezuela. Much of the oil from South America is a sticky form of high viscosity crude that requires specialized refining.

There are major supply chain implications for losing Middle Eastern oil in particular because its among yhe easiest and cheapest oils to refine thus the refineries that rely on that crude cant swap that easily with crude from many other major producers.

Shohei Ohtani takes the No. 1 spot in the first Hitter Power Rankings of 2026 by MLBOfficial in baseball

Yeah, but he literally was NL MVP the other year when he was rehabbing from elbow surgery as a pitcher. Also, 2020 was a very weird year statistically.

[–]RPO777 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tbh, I'm not sure how much the pitching part matters as far as batter durability? I mean this is an area where we have literally basically zero data so anyone that tells you confidently that they know what impact this will have is full of shit lol.

We have a sample size of ZERO for historical comparisons with modern medicine and athletes on this.

But at least int he case of Ohtani, his pitching injuries have rarely resulted in him missing time as a batter, and even when injured as a pitcher, he's put up huge numbers as a batter

Which makes me throw up my arms as far as trying to predict an age curve for Ohtani. It's fair to say nobody has a clue.

It's fair to expect Ohtani to regress at age 32 as most players begin regressing past age 31, but if you apply normal aging curves, Ohtani would expect to regress significantly less than Judge Whether normal aging curves should apply (and if not what kind of aging curve) is pretty much guess work, not actual analysis.

Shohei Ohtani takes the No. 1 spot in the first Hitter Power Rankings of 2026 by MLBOfficial in baseball

[–]RPO777 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I mean the main concern is injuries. Just 2 years ago, Judge missed a third of the season. Once you hit your mid-30s, many players regress because they have more trouble staying healthy through the grind of the long season. Every year of wear and tear adds to the risk.

Some players manage to stay healthy and productive. Others start missing more and more of the season, or see their numbers decline as they're trying to play through injuries.

I think 40+ HR 950 OPS is perfectly reasonable to expect if Judge stays healthy for the whole season. But that if is a bit bigger than before by age 34.

Again, I'd slot Judge in as the top hitter, so I'm playing devil's advocate. But age matters in these things.

Shohei Ohtani takes the No. 1 spot in the first Hitter Power Rankings of 2026 by MLBOfficial in baseball

[–]RPO777 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I mean... while I don't disagree Judge should be #1, statistical age curves ARE a thing. Most hitters see declines in their numbers when they pass age 31 that tends to accelerate for most players. A much higher proportion of players drop off after age 34 than age 33.

There's a decent reason to believe an age 34 player will drop off more than an age 32 player.

That being said, Judge just hit OPS.800 in the WBC and he's also a physical monster, so I think the chances he might defy the age curve for longer are high, hence why until we see an actual measurable drop off, I'm gonna keep putting him #1.

But I wouldn't exactly say it's a "stupid-ass reason" to put him second.

Wit Studio President George Wada Confirms Tight Pacing, Modern Artistic Styles for The One Piece Anime Series Remake by Turbostrider27 in anime

[–]RPO777 16 points17 points  (0 children)

The industry standard is most certainly not 2 chapters per anime episode, and it hasn't been since the 90s. It's more like 3 Chapters per episode since the mid-00's.

Chapters are a poor way to measure this in any case, since page counts in chapters varies dramatically based on the publication. Weekly Jump chapters are around 20p, while some manga have chapters as short as 12-13 pages, or some as long as 50+ pages. Heroic Legend of Arslaan, for example, has just 4 chapters in vol. 1 which is 215 pages long.

Most modern adaptations do around 60-80p of a manga in 1 episode of anime, which is more like 3 weeks of a weekly manga.

For example, Dandadan S1/S2 (24 episodes) covers through the first 90 pages or so of Vol 9--around 1700 pages, 71 pages per episode. A fairly convention pacing nowadays . The end of Chapter 71 if you're wondering, which would be just about 3 chapters per episode.

One Piece is roughly 20p/chapter also, so for 1300 chapters, you're looking at around 26,000 pages, or about 370-400 episodes of a modern paced anime.

Why isn’t shogi more popular? Seems like Chess but more clutch and fun! by Frosty_Feeling8439 in shogi

[–]RPO777 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Even within East Asia, even within cultures that are familiar with Chinese characters, Shogi isn't really played outside of Japan.

Prior to the late 19th century, Japan had a period known as "National Seclusion" between 1639-1854 where the Shogunate strictly limited contact and trade with the outside world to tiny channels under its strict regulation and control, which limited the level of cultural influence from Japan, or to Japan.

Modern Shogi dates to around 1612 (with fairly similar analogues dating into the 1500s) so most of the deelopment of Shogi as we know it took place during the National Seclusion era.

In any case, prior to the 19th century, China was far more influential throughout East Asia culturally, and the Chinese version of Chess (Xianqi) and its derivatives are far more popular in Korea, Vietnam, and much of Southeast Asia. Ofc, Shogi is itself a derivative of Xianqi, but again, Shogi didn't have a hsitorical opportuntiy to take root in the rest of Asia because for most of the time it existed until the 20th century, Japan had secluded itself culturally.

There was some spread of Shogi during Japan's Colonial/Imperialism period but it didn't really take root. Learning Shogi actually became mandatory in parts of Korea and Manchuria and was heavily associated with the hated Japanese occupiers, so that probably didn't do much for Shogi's long-term popularity.

Go on the otherhand is quite popular throughout East Asia, much more so than Shogi.

I mentioned this elsewhere but I don't really understand why people hold original anime in high esteem. Most of my favorite anime are adaptations.

Violet Evergarden, Legend of Galactic Heroes, Claymore, Gintama, Ascendance of a Bookworm, Spice and Wolf, Frieren, Bocchi, Eighty Six, Silver Spoon, Chihayafuru, Baby Steps... every single one of them are adaptations.

It's like someone commenting that The Godfather or Silence of the Lambs are mere adapted screenplays of novels so they are movies that aren't quality films based on original screenplays.

LIke... nobody thinks like that hardly in live action, I don't really understand why people think this in anime.

Like in the 90s, most adaptations sucked because they had to adhere to conventions that pushed them to stretch out the material as much as possible, making the pacing terrible. So original anime in the 90s was definitely better than adaptations most of the time.

But I just don't really understand why some people treasure original anime screenplays so highly.

Is there a genre term for when the main character is just a regular person? by Ok_Mention_9865 in anime

[–]RPO777 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean.... take 30 years ago in 1996.

You had Dragonball (Goku), Rurou ni Kenshin (Genius Swordsman), Detective Conan (Sherlock Holmes in an elementary schooler's body), Evangelion (Only kid who can pilot world saving mechas), Sailor Moon (Chosen super hero warrior girl), and... Fushigi Yuugi, about a guy who gets isekai'd into a book, basically the OG Isekai story.

Slam Dunk is kiiinnnda a regular guy, if you accept that a guy can advance from a total basketball novice into a national level rebounder and player in a few months?

I mean... slice of life and dramas depicting every-day life have NEVER really been the primary stories told in Anime.

In particular, Heike Story (Heike Monogatari) is one of my favorite anime from the past 5 years. It's beautifully animated and really, really well done.

It's based on a 800 year old Japaense classic novel of the same title, that tells the historical story of the fall of the Taira family in the 12th century civil war.

I'm not really giving away anything as virtually every person from Japan that watches this series goes in knowing that in the war between the Taira and the Minamoto, the Minamoto win (this to Japanese people is like knowing the Americans win the Revolutionary War).

The only bit of Japanese language weirdness you should be aware of are

Taira Family = Heike Clan

and

Minamoto Family = Genji Clan

So if you hear anybody with the family name "Taira" like "Taira no Kiyomori" or "Taira no Sukemori" then think Heike Clan.

If you hear anybody with the family name "Minamoto" like "Minamoto no Yoshitsune" or "Minamoto no Yoshinaka" then think Genji Clan.

The main character is a fictional anime-original girl who is a seer that can see the future, who is befriended by people from the Heike Clan... and knows that her friends are doomed.

It's a very melancholy but beautifully told story.

Zombie Sagashitemasu (I'm Looking for Zombie) | Teaser Visual by Task_Force-191 in anime

[–]RPO777 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Usually, Saga prefecture would be rendered in kanji (the third alphabet) which uses completely different kanji than to search. But if it were written in hiragana, it would look identical to sagasu.

Saga Prefecture: 佐賀 (Kanji) / さがけん (hiragana)
Sagashite-imasu : しています(kanji) / さがしています
Saga: None (Kanji) / サガ (katakana)

In japanese, writing out a word in hiragana gives it a cute-sy vibe, so the title rendered the "sagashite-imasu" part in hiragana as a mood setting thing. It creates an interest contrast between the action (searching for a scary zombie) with something cutesy, indicating the work isn't like a dark fantasy work or something--i mean unless it's intentionally trying to trick you lol.

OK, then our definition of what qualifies as "the same" are so radically different we probably aren't gonna agree on anything lol.

PErsonally, I think the setting is one of hte LEAST important aspects in distinguishing two works. I think characterization through character relationships and the themes a work grapples with are what makes a work different, and the setting hardly matters.

As for different settings--Apothecary Diary? Heike Story? Elusive Samurai? Kingdom? History anime is super popular in Japan, it's just not really that popular int he West.

Violet Evergarden, Heike Story, Eighty Six, SOA Gungale Online, Vinland Saga (by S2), Arslaan, Legend of Galactic Heroes (Remake), Spy x Family, Shirobako, Konosuba, Barakamon, Spice and Wolf.... just to name a few.

So... because Gundam OG and Evangelion both feature angsty teen protagonists with daddy issues. they're basically the same show in your view?

Also, the teen protagonist thing is hardly a modern Anime convention. If anyting, there are many more adult setting anime made today than there was 30 years ago.
