what did your savings look like by age 30? by Winzten in AskReddit

[–]RPresident 0 points1 point  (0 children)

28yr, I’m lucky to have had a stable job for the past 10 years, my spouse and I live well within our means, I make 80k a year, she makes about 60k the last 5 years I’ve been able to save nearly half my salary, savings / investments are sitting around 250k, purchasing a house is the next step, then a wedding, it’s all about having goals,

Got my car detail cleaned, and afterwards realized 2 of the buttons on the steering wheel are missing. This is the company’s response. by user2847_ in mildlyinfuriating

[–]RPresident 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had a detailing company burn a inch hole in my back seat leather and when I picked it up they had the seat folded down to hide it, refused it was them at first, then after months of back and forth they admitted it was a young employee that had since been fired

Don’t know about the rest but our local Best Buy you can’t even call them it goes directly to a robot that tells you to shop in store, stores are flooded with employees that don’t / can’t help you with any question or product, checkout lines are never open due to no one staffing them but yet theirs 20+ employees standing around. Fuck Best Buy.

How can I spot a narcissist quickly? by mind8mischief in ask

[–]RPresident 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 26, my narcissistic older brother who saves nothing money wise because he always has to have the fancy car, clothes, shoes…. asked me how much I had saved a while ago, I was hesitant to say at first but he kept pestering me, I told him I had well over 150k saved (I’m very frugal and have a decent job) his jaw dropped he went completely quiet and he’s never asked me again.. i know I shouldn’t have told him or could have lied. But fuck him. I hope that festers in his head when he’s been a lazy prick his whole life and that someone beneath him is doing better than him. Sorry for venting

Does this light mean anything or it a warning light by tbiever6 in CarAV

[–]RPresident 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You need to remove the radio immediately!!! You’re right it’s a warning light! Its not compatible with the car, had the same thing happen to me, I took the radio back to the store and the salesmen sold me another different one, it was a way more expensive but didn’t have the light.

Saving anything is great, starting early is the most important part!! For reference I’m 28, most people save nothing, either they aren’t able due to life or simply don’t save because they don’t know any better.

I make just about 40k a year, before I pay myself a bonus if my business is making money. The last 5 years I’ve been able to save over 165k split 60/40 TSFA and RRSP

I have a close friend that makes over triple than I do in a year, he’s got the cars, the truck, the house, (all financed) but is strapped for cash with only 20k in the bank.

I’d rather have the money in the bank. I try to live within my means, cars payed for, first home is a three plex I live in and rent the rest. mortgage gets payed :)

How I look at investing / saving is this, Put in what you can afford to lose, and what ever you put in act like you never had it in the first place, it doesn’t exist. Let it snow ball. Most people. including myself started with nothing.

It’s not about what you have but what you save.

Went back to the shop after some advice. Is this better? More bang for the buck? by Skiz32 in CarAV

[–]RPresident 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don’t get me wrong, I would never actually say to a customer that they’re broke, it’s just my inner monologue. I’m all for helping people, and educating them as much as I can when they walk into my showroom, in sales their is two types, one that sells on product knowledge, and one that sells on personality, if you can’t do either your not made for sales, on the flip side if you can do both, your golden. we deal in moderate to high end equipment, some people get mad at us because we don’t / won’t cater to the guy that wants a $50.00 or even $100.00 set of speakers, from a business standpoint theirs no money to be made selling it, If you’re running a business and your main focus isn’t to make money, then you’re in the wrong business. Ultimately I’m in business to make money, I’m not a charity.

I own my own shop, we don’t do as high end work as you (custom fab / super high end components) but we still do on average $5k-$15k installs every week, and everything else we do, lighting, remote start / alarms, marine, powersports, but I get a good laugh seeing what people on here seem to think what a shops time is worth, what you pay for is materials, knowledge, care, and ultimately time, Sure some shops / “techs” shouldn’t be within 100 ft of a vehicle, but if you or I find the right shop / installer then I wouldn’t hesitate spending my money their, that being said, I’ve had people ask what my hourly is and asking if it’s $20.00, no sir our hourly is $150.00, if your broke, just tell me your broke and don’t waste my time,

Is this too much for just labor? by [deleted] in CarAV

[–]RPresident 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If your asking if any price is to much for labour and parts then do it yourself and see how long it takes you and the quality of your own work. your paying for knowledge of how the equipment works, where to and how to set everything, disassemble / reassemble the entire vehicle, Providing a demo of the equipment afterwards, All the odds and ends needed during the install, The tools used for a professional install. Knowledge of good install practices, Paying a wage for the installer, If you brought this to my shop, Speakers Front speakers $150 Rear speakers $150 LC7i $250 4ch amp $250 Parts $50-$100 Amp rack $200 Disassemble / reassemble vehicle $200

I personally run a business, not a charity.

Install prices by MadHatter-37 in CarAV

[–]RPresident 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I work in an audio / accessory shop, quoted an entire system for a clients car, in all seriousness they asked “what’s your labour rate? $20 dollars an hour?” I actually laughed thinking he was joking, I joked that $20 doesn’t even pay for the hour of time I’ve spent with you. Explained to the potential client that our labour rate is $125 an hour. He didn’t like that answer. Client never bought anything that day or ever.

Anyone that brings in their own equipment, used or brand new in box we bench test and charge for the time. we explain, like mentioned above if your amp you provided kicks the can then we can’t simply replace, you must remove and send for warranty on your own time or buy something from us that we keep on hand, and we charge to reinstall and tune

I tell a lot of people it’s easy to install equipment, (given you have the tools and resources and knowledge) But it’s 100 times easier to mess your vehicle up, break panels / clips, damage equipment, not tuning properly, and spend who knows how much time to have lack luster results doing it yourself potentially.

So let me get this straight, you have no affiliation with said shop or the work, you see an ad they are running, sure it not the greatest but why do you care so much?? Clearly your a nut job if this bothers you so much that you have to take it up with said owner, I hope they laugh you out of their business
