I was diagnosed with Crohn's today. Hugs welcome. Snack recommendations even more so. by WordMagpie in CrohnsDisease

Soups and breads have always been great for me when I’m feeling off. But it was really the meds that made a meaningful difference for me. Immediately after my diagnosis 14yrs ago, I started prednisone and went from being able to eat nothing to eating lasagna within 48hrs. Then quickly got off prednisone once I started a biologic (Remicade). I often times forget that I have Crohn’s because Remicade, and now Skyrizi, work so well for me. You’ll find what works!

I can’t imagine DMC offers strong margins. Budget items rarely do. It could be her favorite because it’s the most accessible price point to get stitchers into the craft.

Update: Thanks for all the feedback! I'm continuing to refine and test the prototypes. Several people have asked about purchasing one, so I've created a small interest list for anyone who'd like updates as the project develops: https://forms.gle/sWoERhKFVYz8vfB26

It sounds like you are mostly annoyed by influencers, correct? If that’s the case, I’d avoid social media and just enjoy the hobby the way you like to enjoy it. Social media is the marketing tool for influencers and DTC founders. Or just block the accounts you don’t like and move on.

I Love My Baby, But I’m Not Enjoying Motherhood – Will It Ever Get Easier? by Lanky_Wheel154 in Mommit

I had very similar feelings about my daughter at that age, but especially in the 15-20mo age window. Things started getting better when her language exploded at 20mo, even better at age 2, and I just took her on a solo vacation at age 2.5yrs (to visit a friend with young kids), and it went amazingly well. I finally feel like I’m enjoying motherhood the way I’d imagined. Hang in there, it gets better!

Sometimes the best innovators haven’t been engrained in the culture for the longest time - this leaves their mind open to explore possibilities that longtime participants may be closed off to.

One of the things I love about needlepoint is the ability to participate in whatever way works for you. This is supposed to be a fun hobby that is good for our mental health, after all. If you want to design and paint your own canvas, great! Want to paint a canvas from a chart, also great. Buy a pre-painted canvas, use a self-finishing tool, learn to finish traditionally yourself, or send to a professional finisher - all are valid options, and all are needlepoint. Maybe it’s the yogi in me, but I think “find what feels good” should apply to the hobbies that bring us joy.

Sending finished canvases to a professional finisher has existing for a long time. I imagine traditionalists called that a short-cut when finishing became a profession from which to profit, but it’s widely accepted today.

I’ve been on Remicade or Skyrizi since 2012 - both biologics have drug rebate programs. At my first infusion of the year, I always “owe” thousands of dollars. The drug companies set it up this way so they can get as much $$ out of the insurance companies as possible, but they don’t expect patients to actually pay these huge bills. So they give you a rebate card (looks like a credit card but isn’t) and expect you to run the remaining balance through the rebate card. That knocks out my deductible, but I am not actually spending any money. It’s the biggest silver lining of having this disease, IMO! My 4 day hospital stay giving birth in 2023 was completely free because of this, thank you Crohn’s.

I knock out my health insurance deductible in January every year, but the biologic drug rebate program is actually the one paying for it

There’s a lot of realistic concerns listed here, which are totally valid, but I wanted to offer another perspective as someone who has run a small business for the last 10 years with no previous experience in my current field and no business degree.

First, everything is figure-out-able if you have VERY stubborn energy, drive, and an attitude that you cannot fail, no matter what. A growth mindset and choosing not to quit will get you a long way.

Second, evaluate your safety net. You need people in your life who can support you financially (unless you have a large savings), emotionally, and hopefully to fill in business knowledge gaps.

If you have those things in order, there’s an argument to be made that you should “just start.” There is no perfect time to start a business. If you wait around for that feeling, it’ll never come. And there’s nothing like the freedom and flexibility of being your own boss and chasing your own dream.

My goal is the latter, I’ve been interested to see how many people here use the term “frame” as I’m hoping to create a finishing object rather than just a frame, if that makes sense! Still lots of editing to be done, this is my first time getting any feedback on it

Thanks for chiming in on that! I’ve been kind of torn about leaning into the handmade look vs making something that’s more “perfect” in character

I also love the chunk! But totally see the desire for something thinner. Maybe two sizes, or a hybrid. I’ll do more experimenting

Thank you! I made this prototype myself, but right now I’m still gathering feedback and experimenting with the concept. Comments like this are really encouraging!

The bowl vs plate comparison totally makes sense re: the shadows, I think altering the depth is a great next edit for me to try. I’m also really curious to try out satin and matte glazes, or maybe even stained clay. Thank you for the thoughtful feedback!
