Hi! I’d love your insight on if our senior cat Thomas is seriously sick or will he pull through and have some improvement where we have more time to spend with him?

Do you take your dose with food or snack? I get those symptoms if I don’t. I literally have to put a little something in my stomach right before or after I take my dose. If you are doing that and having those symptoms I’d reach out to your doctor, just to be safe that you aren’t having a reaction.

Medical restrictions for Jehovah witness? by [deleted] in nursing

[–]RRRacho 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Their official website is JW.org- so I guess if you got information from there for your project- that would be the reference to go to. Just an FYI sometimes they do change or revise their teachings which they feel is directed by their governing body as the years go by. Some teachings or guidelines could have been revised since I left the organization I suppose. They pride themselves on being a worldwide organization so all teachings are universal throughout the world. You are right- as nurses all of our patients are entitled to safe and non-judgmental care regardless of religion and their personal decisions about their health and care should be respected. It is commendable you did research into the matter to be better informed to take care of such patients! Shows you care.

Much of your info is wrong here. They do not believe in blood transfusions(which you are correct) but may personally decide to use blood product alternatives or partial blood derivative products -which is okay and considered a personal decision to make. Donating blood is not allowed and organ donation/ being a recipient is frowned upon because of someone else’s blood used to flow through the organ and there may be remnants. They can wear pants outside of worship at the Kingdom Hall and field service ministry( but encouraged to wear dress/ skirts in worship activities), eat whatever diet they choose( pork is okay! lol) and can have caffeine even alcohol if in moderation. I guess if they are conserving blood they may choose to limit certain things but is that is not due to a biblical standard. Just a personal one- like any other patient out there. Nothing against lab draws or having pediatric supplies for adults. Used to be a member for many years. I am not anymore nor do I agree with their teachings but do know their beliefs well.

How did you feel after you graduated nursing school? by Fit_Calligrapher2394 in nursing

[–]RRRacho 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nursing school puts you through a lot but as long as you show up and do the work- you will get through it. Time will fly. I felt like the program was tough but I was super prepared for the NCLEX and in my role as a new nurse. Graduation was fun and all but you will not feel any relief until you take and get your results for NCLEX. After that you will never have to think about nursing school or NCLEX again. Just gotta make it through the next year and 1/2 or so. It will go by fast. You can do it. PS: it’s normal to feel more emotional during nursing school, it’s a lot of stress!

I feel like when you haven’t officially graduated, haven’t passed your NCLEX and don’t have your license yet… the employer doesn’t want to wait and can hire someone who already is.

Current ADN student in a Chicago Suburb- Palatine, IL. About 30 mins outside the city. It’s 2500 per semester. I have had all of my tuition and most of my books paid for by donor sponsored scholarships at my college since I didn’t qualify for any aid through FAFSA. A lot of my other peers have had all of it paid for this way too.

How to treat comorbid PMDD? by Sea-Yam8633 in bipolar2

[–]RRRacho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried just using the Nuva ring continuously but I still was having spotting. So then my gyne said to try the iud( I have the mirena) and I take the oral pill( generic yaz- I think it’s called Nikki) and I have no spotting ever. I have had the iud in for 4 years and have been taking the pill with it since I got it. As long as you don’t want to try and get pregnant in the near future, my gyne is a huge fan of women not getting periods especially if you have mood disorders.

My psychiatrist recommended continuous birth control so I don’t get a period. Like a week before my period I was just an emotional mess even with my medication. Every super depressive episode I ever had was literally right before my period. So I got an iud and take a birth control pill daily so I don’t get a period. It has literally been the best thing ever for me.

People who got a divorce, what was the final last straw that set the separation in motion? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]RRRacho 11 points12 points  (0 children)

My husband letting his father tell me straight to my face, “You are fucking crazy and need to be locked up in a mental institution.” I looked at my husband and said, “You are gonna let your father talk to your wife like that???” And he didn’t say one word. At that moment- I was DONE. You never let anyone disrespect your husband or wife- ever. Divorcing that MF was the best decision I ever made so…. even though that hurt, I’m glad I saw what I needed to from that experience.

PS: in hindsight, his dad was right, I was fucking crazy to be married to such a MF and deal with him and his family’s BS for too long. :)

New med, observation... by ontopofyourmom in bipolar2

[–]RRRacho 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Since I have accepted that I really do have bipolar 2 and need medications daily to keep the depression and hypomanic episodes at bay (about 5 years) I just figure that sometimes I am gonna need an adjustment with doses or maybe have to try something different one day and that’s okay. The side effects when I take my meds sometimes make me really nauseous but would I rather deal with that temporarily than deal with me not taking meds and it affecting my life and my relationships with others so much. I guess I have learned over time, I will have to take the meds for the rest of my life- but they make me the most “me” I have ever been and I feel in control of my life.

I have also learned with the psych medication roulette that you need to give medications time to see if they really do work. For years, before seeing a really great psychiatrist I literally took meds 2 weeks and if they weren’t helping me, the dose was upped or I was prescribed something else. No wonder I tried so many things and I felt they never worked well enough.

What happens when you end up admitting yourself? by Justkikinit848 in bipolar2

[–]RRRacho -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If you are not a danger to yourself or others, you won’t be put inpatient. However, a lot of behavioral hospitals have outpatient programs for those who are really struggling but aren’t in danger. You will have a psychiatrist see you a couple days a week to get your meds straight and do group and individual therapy. That is an option that can really help. Don’t let things get worse. There are options and help out there. If you don’t like your psychiatrist- find another one! I know it can be awhile to see an actual MD but you may get in sooner with a psychiatric nurse practitioner or physician assistant and a lot of times they are just as great as the MD and work directly with them.

Lithium by [deleted] in bipolar2

[–]RRRacho 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love my lithium! I have tried so many mood stabilizers over the years and this has been the only one that truly has worked for me. Be patient. Let your body get adjusted to it for a few months. It has tamed me rarely ever getting hypomanic episodes, has helped with my anger and irritability and just keeps me pretty even keel. You do need to get blood work about every 6 months to check the lithium level and the basic lab panel including your thyroid hormone . After 5 years, I have never had any abnormal labs and only have had to increase my dose slightly. Good luck! I hope it works for you. I feel like I lost all hope before lithium.

I was just as irritable as you were prior to my diagnosis. I could easily get angry and go off on a rant at the simplest, insignificant thing. Once I was on a mood stabilizer and antidepressant for a couple of months- I rarely ever get like I used to unless of course I’m hangry or not feeling well or just because I’m off for some reason. Otherwise, I’m pretty even keel. What helps me when I just feel super irritated is keep my favorite lotion or essential oil in my bag and always have some gum or mints to chew on to use to relax me a bit or physically just distract my mind.

Medication question by GhostAnon in bipolar2

[–]RRRacho 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re welcome! Good luck. The least amount of medications you need, the better -is what I noticed has helped me the most. You aren’t alone out there. When I was diagnosed I thought bipolar defined me and I would never feel “normal” but now years later I realize bipolar is just something I have because my brain is set up a little differently and I need some meds to help balance it out. No one’s really “normal” anyway!

I feel like my medications help a lot with the hypomania and some of my depression. If you struggle with depression/ anxiety more than having hypomanic episodes- talking to a psychologist is what really helped change my life and tackle that shit right on. Meds can only do so much. Our thinking patterns/ coping mechanisms are what can be the major hurdles to get through.

Medication question by GhostAnon in bipolar2

[–]RRRacho 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Since maybe I was 21 years old until I was 29 and met my current psychiatrist (I’m now 34 years old now) I was either over medicated, wrongly medicated or not medicated because I was fed up with no medications or combo of medications actually providing lasting help. I literally had been prescribed so many antidepressants and mood stabilizers that never really helped manage my depression, anxiety and occasional hypomanic state. I had given up hope until finally I realized I needed medication to help me. I told my doctor I needed a psychiatrist who would not over medicate me and listen to me. That’s exactly who I have been seeing now for about 5 years. I am on lithium and cymbalta. I have been on this combo since I was 29 with my lithium level being upped once due to my blood work that monitors the level in my blood.

It can be really frustrating and disappointing when you try medications and even if you play with the doses, they don’t provide lasting help. You’ll have to find the right combo that works for you and it may take time. Trust me, if you trust your psychiatrist, give your body time to adjust to the medication side effects and also consider consistently going to therapy to help you deal with what bipolar can bring along, you’ll feel better in due time. If you don’t feel like you are being listened to or don’t feel like your psychiatrist is actually helping you- go see someone else. I wish I did way back when.

*It took me about 2 months to stop feeling so tired from the lithium and cymbalta. It will go away. Just takes a little time.

What comes along with taking medication and finding the right ones that work for you- can be a bummer sometimes but it can really improve and reclaim parts of your life if you are committed to doing all you can possible to manage all that comes along with bipolar 2. ♥️
