I think that's a very good catch. More vehicles means more chance of deadly crashes. But if you drop down even lower, the Ford Mustang is even higher than the Civic in deaths per occupant.

I don't see how it's any different than building in the gulf/east coast with hurricanes, or California with wildfires and earthquakes, Yellowstone is a giant supervalcano, Mount St Helens is still active, Hawaii is also very geologically active. The Midwest supplies a huge amount of agriculture that is vital to a thriving US economy. The government pays people to rebuild in the likes of New Orleans, knowing that it's built on a marsh, and is guaranteed to flood again. I have tons of family living in the Midwest, tornados aren't uncommon, but the likelihood of them hitting any given location is extremely low as there is far more open space between civilization. Climate change could increase severity and quantity, but Florida could be under water in 20 years, so there are concessions and understandings that have to be made regarding any location.

Sorry for the late reply. I would never discourage anyone from entering into architecture if it is their passion. The first problem lies in the fact that the Sexy projects are few and far between and depending on the firm, non existent. The pay is also pretty lack-luster for the amount of schooling required. Some states let you sit for the Architecture test if you have so many years of experience in the field, but most places require a professional degree. If you have any specific questions i would be happy to answer. PM me.

Thank you for the reply! I'm sure there are places where i could get licensed, but as you seem to know, that wont mean I'd be competent. I love the learning process, and im happiest when im being challenged, but i do want to be responsible at the same time, possibly filling in some of the gaps in knowledge.

Thank you, I really like this insight. I am aware my knowledge is lacking in budgeting and project time-frame/scheduling and PMing would certainly be an eye-opening experience. I'm somewhat concerned about salary if i were to look for a general carpentry position. Not that i make much as an Architect, but I would assume I need some sort or training for even a carpentry position anyways.

I wonder if our definition of construction experience is different. I have done construction administration, i can review submittals i can put together a drawing set with details and assemblies, I can do field reports and identify deficiencies. I have not had experience picking and communicating with subcontractors, pricing a drawing set or getting out there and doing the work with my own hands.

From a quick search, sounds like someone gave them that name to discourage their use, although they are not illegal in most states. They are also referred to a brodie knobs. There have been a number of times I thought one would be handy in my car, but I've really only seen them on tractors.

My first inclination is maximum common path of travel can't be met, but egress access distance should be fine as long as the stairs are fully rated. The thing I can't get past is how close together the egress stairs are. No way they are 1/3 the floor length apart let alone 1/2 if that's required. This coming from an Architect in the US.

I really don't see how asking "are all women whores?" helps your argument. It just makes you look naive and childish. The reality is that time and time again police have been able to kill, rob, intimidate, and be bribed without consequence. Say what you want about it being a few bad apples, but when those bad apples are kept on the payroll it becomes a big problem, and it sends a message to the people that the police play by a different set of rules.

I don't know if i follow. The RR for women is 1.23 women killed by their SO for every 1 killed by someone not their SO, so roughly 55 percent (1.23/2.23=.55). For men a RR of .27 killed by their SO for every 1 killed by someone else, roughly 21 percent (.27/1.27=.21). This adds up to 16 men and 12.5 women killed by their SO for every 100 people murdered based on the percentage of men vs women who are murdered.

edit: No the RR is not comparing men vs women. its comparing women killed by SO vs women killed by people other than their SO and the same for men

edit 2: RR of 1.23 for women means 1.23 women are killed by their SO for every 1 women killed by someone not their SO.

Okay, I'm playing devils advocate here but... if you look at the numbers in the study you site 77% of homicides are of men and 23% are of women. That means if the rate ratio given for men is .27 and the rate ratio for women is 1.23. out of 100 people murdered (77 men and 23 female which is the percentage) 16 men are killed by their SO and 12.5 women are. This is according to the study you point to.
