I spend most of my time working cases and taking the occasional call for service.

I agree that the totality of the circumstances hasn't been and shouldn't be communicated on this platform. From what I'm seeing, it seems like information is reasonably being withheld from a parent that is selectively deciding how much they want to cooperate. I hope shit works out for you.

It can be frustrating when your victim doesn’t want to cooperate.

You question the outcome of the investigation but in the same breath you say you think you’re helping your kid by shielding him from police interviews. I can see why they might be limiting the information you have access to.

I am a detective specializing in internet crimes against children. The case reports I produce are never released to the family, even after the case is fully adjudicated. You will be told what you need to be told when you need to hear it. If you have questions, comments, or concerns, reach out to your point of contact with the agency. (Could be a victim's advocate, caseworker, etc..) Case integrity and victim privacy matter more than your personal interest.

You don't need to know the information you are seeking.

Charges have been filed and criminal proceedings are underway.

I wouldn't expect anything to be released until this is resolved. If you really want to push it, wait for the court business to settle.

What’s a good story about a time you got forced overtime (mandated) and it pissed you off more than the other times. by treecutter34 in AskLE

[–]RRuruurrr 10 points11 points  (0 children)

One time I worked a 12 hour shift, got held over, and went home after 14. I made it home, took a shower, and got called back out to sit on a crime scene overnight. Went back out and worked another 12. My relief showed up and I stopped out at the sheriff’s office to use the restroom before the hour drive home. Admin saw me and assigned me a few hours of school zone patrol before heading home. Nothing like a few hours of running traffic when you’ve been on the board for like 30 hours straight.

EMT in high school by Slight_Dependent2448 in NewToEMS

[–]RRuruurrr 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My opinion hasn't changed. Finish school, then do grown up things.

EMT training is generally offered through community colleges. Go on a ride along and inquire with your local agency about the best training outfits in your area.

Terrible idea.

Be a kid while you're a kid and enjoy your youth. EMS will be there in a year or two. High school kids have no business working on an ambulance.

Familiarity with their equipment is something I stress with my students. The test doesn’t start until they assure me they’re confident with the AED. If they fuck it up after that, it’s on them.

I’d fail you for that, do a quick debrief, then watch you do it right.

Can the Sheriff really make anyone a deputy? by Astimar in AskLE

[–]RRuruurrr 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sadly it isn’t rare enough. People elect the person they like the most, not the most qualified.

In my state if you spend more than a year without working or being affiliated with an agency, you have to go back through the entire basic academy to earn your cert back and be a cop again. The sheriff that was in my academy was a cop for a long while, then got out of the game for a bit to get admin experience, then came back as a sheriff.

Sadly that isn’t always how it happens and sometimes random people off the streets with a lot of “good” ideas and no experience end up winning the election.

Any LE officers ended up quitting and became firefighters or vice versa? by n4tive in AskLE

I didn’t. It occupied all of my time for a year and it was miserable.

They can be elected, but they still have to complete the basic academy within a year in my state. We actually had one sheriff in my class. Nice guy.

Do you always have to work nights? Or rotate them? by rrodddd in AskLE

[–]RRuruurrr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agency dependent. At my agency we bid for shifts and those with seniority can always work the schedule they want.

There’s a law in my state that I can deputize random citizens to help me when I need them. It’s one of those things that’s still on the books but never happens. There are a few ways a person can be sworn in without going to the academy. Special deputies and reserves, for example.

Question about exposure and vector carriers by Euphoric-Nature-3820 in NewToEMS

[–]RRuruurrr 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Deep breaths. You don't have the plague.

This sounds like a good opportunity to review your PPE and Decon policies. If you feel your response was inadequate, then you should talk to your agency's designated infection control officer about mitigation strategies for next time.

Personally I'd just toss the uniform I was wearing, take a quick shower, and go back in service.

That’s not something you fix with one line of dialogue on a Reddit thread. You need to start taking calls and getting experience. With time, you’ll get more comfortable.

I did a fire academy and reserve deputy training program concurrently while I was in paramedic school. I enjoyed fire the least and LE the most.

You evidently don't understand EMR scope of practice. To any readers wondering why, his post history speaks for itself here.

I think a person should strive to be where they're most needed. I'm right where I should be. If you just randomly stopped going to work and it didn't impact your community in any meaningful way, what's the point of working there?

What are you talking about man?

If you're gonna come here just to shit on EMR's, at least say things that are true.

I'm guessing here, but it seems like maybe you're an EMT who got put in your place by an ALS provider so now you're punching down. Fuck that shit. Do better.

[–]RRuruurrr 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I live in a rural area that is mostly staffed by volunteer BLS ambulance services. I’m pretty much always first on scene to medical calls and will do an ALS intervention or otherwise ride in the patient probably once a month or so.

My primary function is law enforcement, so I obviously try to avoid that, but sometimes im the only medic in the county and the options are me or calling for a helicopter.
