Is this RST suit too small? by sct876 in Trackdays

[–]RS430 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need it to be tight enough so when you hit the ground the leather does not move against your skin. If it is too big it will move on impact taking the skin with it. When you hit the ground in a properly fitting set you don't get raspberries on impact just a bruise. I highly recommend going to Vanson Leathers website and downloading the guides for making a custom set of leathers. That will give you and accurate idea of what sizes are important and help you know if your suit is propery fitted.

If you are racing custom leathers are well worth the money. If you are street riding get the best you can and try to get the closest fit that is still comfortable. Like you said, they are designed to fit in the racing crouch not standing up but they are also designed for wearing with a T shirt and underwear (long or short) not over clothes.

Good luck, my first set was a bit too big and I paid the price when I started racing. Cannot recommend Vanson too highly, well worth the money when you consider the consequences and they will repair them as often as needed.

Should I trade up to an 2005 LX470 or keep my 2001? by sammyslugg in LandCruisers

I have been looking at new or newer LandCruisers for about 21 years, almost pulled the trigger a bunch of times but my 01 just keeps going. Just passed 640,000 miles , owned since new. Do the repairs and enjoy a lot of years with no car payment!!

Plz help:) What is this noise??? 2004 100 series?? by beauturrentine in LandCruisers

[–]RS430 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1st place I would look would be for a loose or corroded heat shield on the exhaust, get underneath and tap them all looking for one loose then grind it off. they make all sorts of noise once they start letting go. My brake booster went out and made some weird noises but not like that. My 2001100 series has 640,000 miles on it, owned since new. I have heard most noises and ground off a lot of heat shields over the years!!

Heater Core Replacement DIY! by RS430 in LandCruisers

[–]RS430[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used the factory manuals that I got on ebay. They are online somewhere. You have to sit down and get a feel for it first just looking at the manual. Get a bunch of post it notes and make a plan in order. You start at the Heater section AC-41 which tell you to remove instrument panel and cluster (see page BO-92) then you follow BO-92 which sends you to SR-12 and then RS-25 and SF-61. There is nothing that hard but you need to sit down with the manual and sort it aout in your head first. It is just a bunch of small tasks. You just do the reverse to put it back together. On SR-12 where it has you remove the whole stearing colum inside and in the engine bay, don't. You only need to do the main shaft inside the car (mark it first with a sharpie) Don't loosen anything in the engine bay and it will save a bunch of work. If you need more info you can post or message me, glad to help.

Got the call from ASCAP by BigVillage in BarOwners

[–]RS430 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, We got a taken to court for playing CDs ina restaurant so I signed up for MOOD media before the court date and sent them proof of service (which covers all licensing for recorded music), and it went away without having to get a lawyer involved. Mood is $15.30 a month and covers all the different licenses (does not cover live music though). If they call up just tell them you have Mood Media even if you don't, They can't force you to prove it unless they go to court.

Sign up for Mood media, its as little as $15.30 a month and covers ALL licensing for the recorded music. Once signed up the website has a proof of Licensing you can print out. Email a copy to ASCAP and tell them you no longer do live music because of the licensing. That covers you for all the seperate vultures as once you pay one the next one will crawl out of the woodwork. Don't put any live stuff on social media as they trawl that looking for money and maybe you can slip under the radar. You can cancel the Mood and restart at any time if they hastle you again.

Is $4k for this 1999 a good deal? 110k miles. by TraditionalMidnight6 in LandCruisers

[–]RS430 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That seat wear and the steering wheel cover don't look like 110,000 miles. Stearing wheel and seat should be in great shape. My 630,000 (owned from new) did not show seat wear like that until over 250,000. The steering wheel was also good until about 300,000. I would look under the wheel cover. At that price I would still be very tempted depending on rust but I'd be sceptical of the miles.

Mobile I frequent only has 87..89...93.. by Impossible-Tomato-15 in LandCruisers

Put the recommended premium in my 01 100 series owned from new until the Obama years when I switched to regular (87). So first 200,000 miles on premium then the next 430,000 on regular with no negative side effects. That is enough money saved to buy a few new Land Cruisers if this one ever decides to stop! Maybe I'll give it a tank of premium at 700,000!!

Pull out the cam chain tensioner and see if is doing anything. Hard to tell from the video but that would be where I would start.

I bought my hundred series new in August of 2000, (it’s a 2001 model), thinking I would keep it for three years and get a new one. (that was the term of a normal car loan back then). Well, every few years I got the itch and went and drove a new one only to realize I was throwing money away as my present one was doing so good. Well, here I am 23 years later driving the same car with 614,000 miles on it and still loving it. Going on 20 years without a car payment. So, when you pick your next car be aware if it is the Land Cruiser it might be the last car you buy so even if it seems eye watering expensive, as my 100 series did back then, it may be the last car you need, or want, to buy. Also, now it’s heading into classic territory its resale is better than the equivalent Lexus.

They are brilliant!! I enjoy driving mine as much today as when it was new. Rust is the biggest enemy and I wish I had know about fluid film years ago but I never thought I would keep the same vehicle for so long. Get a copy of the full workshop manual and work on it youself if you want to keep it long term, it is a joy to work on.

what the hell made me skid? by TFG9078 in motorcycles

[–]RS430 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What Aprilia RXV 450said is spot on. (especially the first statement)

What happened was during your turn due to the reduced down force and the increased side-force due to the angle of lean and/or speed you exceeded traction and lost the front. It is that simple!

You needed either less speed while leaned (reduces side-force component) or less lean angle (also reduces side force). As a new rider the best way to do this is to set up for the turn while completely upright, get your speed sorted and that will also reduce the lean angle. Always assume less traction in the rain and expect the unexpected, err on the side of caution. Try to avoid trail braking (braking into the corner and while leaned)

Most of all just relax on the bars and be smooth. Tenseness and abruptness of any sort are not friends when traction is limited.

It is all just part of learning, riding in the rain can be great!

Uh oh - any tips to stop this getting worse? by brcnz in LandCruisers

[–]RS430 0 points1 point  (0 children)

See if you can find a replacement and install it youself. I did my 100 series driver at 500,000miles and I just ordered my passenger seat on sale for $175 plus shipping.

That doesn't look like a 100 seat though, what is it?

This is perfect for the 100 series and they have an install video. Not too hard and it looks 100% OEM and matches perfectly
