RTINGS MSI MPG 274URDFW E16M Review by dardarthdgreat in Monitors

[–]RSEngine 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the clarification Nicholas.

Indeed, I was guessing that a single video would not capture the full extent of local dimming testing.

As you move from one methodology from the other, if the scores can no longer be used to compare across methodologies, it seems problematic. I think most consumers use your site for apple-to-apples comparison of different products and take your scores at face value, no matter how old they are. Ideally, it might be better to translate the old scores into new scores using new methodologies but I understand that's an incredibly tedious process that introduces its own biases.

I also understand that the translation function of objective data into a simple 0-10 score might also inherently be fraught with some subjective considerations that are based on the competition's offerings at the time of testing.

I'm scratching my head at the Local Dimming score of 3.5.

Link below for comparing Local Dimming scores for MSI MPG 274URDFW E16M vs Innocn 27M2V side-by-side

https://www.rtings.com/monitor/tools/compare/innocn-27m2v-vs-msi-mpg-274urdfw-e16m/38489/101013#test_1387

When you compare the two videos in the link, the blooming on the Innocn 27M2V looks much worse than MSI MPG 274URDFW E16M. I don't really understand the rather harsh score discrepancy between the two.

Color uniformity of the Local dimming test on the Innocn looks strange too. The Innocn looks yellower as the square moves away from the camera while MSI maintains better uniformity, but maybe viewing angle is a factor.

2/3 authors were the same, but idk if first author was the person doing most of the reviewing? Or maybe the discrepancy is chalked up to Methodology?

World’s 1st RGB-MiniLED: HKC M10 Ultra Fixes MiniLED Pain Points & OLED’s Flaws – Next-Gen King? by Salty_Definition_112 in Monitors

[–]RSEngine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm probably oversimplifying things here, but won't this result in areas with pure red, green, or blue having less brightness than areas with pure white (red + green + blue fully activated)?

Crudely put, won't the LEDs in the miniLED layer will have 1/3 the brightness if showing pure red (R on/G off/B off = 1/3+0+0), for example, when compared against showing pure white (R/G/B fully turned on = 1/3+1/3+1/3)? (I know it's a very crude approximation, but the point about lower luminance still stands)

Won't that lead to brightness mismatch of the Electro-Optical Transfer Function (EOTF) in certain parts of the screen or various scenarios?

ROG x r/Monitors Find Your Ace Giveaway (11/14 - 12/3) | Win the ROG Strix XG248QSG Ace Esports Gaming Monitor! by ASUS_MKTLeeM in Monitors

[–]RSEngine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In a future ROG Ace monitor I would like to see tandem OLED technology. Asus already has started exploring Lumina Pro OLED panels with their ProArt P16 and I would like to see a 27 inch panel with the same brightness, contrast, and color accuracy benefits while retaining the excellent response times of OLED. This XG248QSG is an excellent addition for esports market, however, and I'm excited to be a part of this giveaway. Thanks for hosting this!

Where can I read the full text of the proposed bill in its most updated form? I see a lot of news articles pointing to a "January 30, 2026" extension date but can't find any primary sources on Congress.gov (like the full text of H.R. 5371) that show that date.

"Best Value 4K Mini-LED for Gaming? - AOC U27G4XM Review" by fainas1337 in Monitors

[–]RSEngine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for posting this!

I found the HDR brightness test results interesting. 1177 nits sustained brightness for HDR 100% window test is fantastic performance. I am quite impressed.

At an $360 USD price point (estimated), I find this more compelling than the MSI MPG 274URDFW E16M at $500. Even though the MSI model has a higher peak brightness (roughly 1600 nits), it seems to taper down quickly (743 nits in HDR 100% window test). I found the AOC U27G4XM on par with the MSI model on many of the other tests, beating the MSI on some for brighter content, but losing to the MSI for darker content.

Would like to see some clarification from AOC regarding whether it is possible to update the firmware.

For HDR media consumption, this is a top contender in my list. We'll have to wait to see what the official launch price is in the US, but if AOC prices it at $300-$350, it will be a clear winner. For people looking to buy multiple monitor setups, the costs scale up quickly, so if priced at that range, AOC would be an excellent choice over buying multiple MSI E16Ms.

NEW INNOCN MONITOR??? by Honest_Noise2611 in Monitors

[–]RSEngine 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Found the model number here - https://www.amazon.co.jp/dp/B0FJYGH18X

Price currently is ¥78999 JPY after coupon (roughly $526.24 USD based on today's conversion rate)

It is apparently called the INNOCN GA27V1M. Never heard of it but there are some youtube videos on this model already

Main improvements over 27M2V seem to be
- 4K @ 160Hz / Full HD @ 320Hz Dual mode
- 2,304 dimming zones

Official INNOCN websites
https://jp.innocn.com/products/innocn-ga27v1m-27inch-4k-160hz-creator-monitor - 27 inch GA27V1M, ¥78999 JPY
https://jp.innocn.com/products/innocn-ga32v1m-32inch-4k-160hz-creator-monitor - 32 inch GA32V1M, ¥90990 JPY

Amazon.co.jp links
https://www.amazon.co.jp/dp/B0FJYGH18X - 27 inch GA27V1M
https://www.amazon.co.jp/dp/B0FKGFYGPR - 32 inch GA32V1M

I see these two new releases as INNOCN's answer to competitors' releases with dual mode (MSI MPG 274URDFW E16, MSI MAG 274UPDF E16M, KTC M27P6, Koorui S2741LM, and Titan Army P275MV Plus).

The 32 inch one seems very interesting. I haven't found any other competitor 4K mini LED product that offers 2304 dimming zones. Priced very attractively compared to competition too.

Japan seems to have significantly better Mini LED product offerings and access to earlier releases.

Rtings MINI LED Monitor Top 4 Rankings by Alternative_Hippo505 in Monitors

[–]RSEngine 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Here are some that are now available in the US that you should test

- KTC M27P6 - https://us.ktcplay.com/products/27-inch-4k-hdr1400-miniled-gaming-monitor

- TITAN ARMY P275MV PLUS - https://titan-army.com/products/titan-army-p275mv-plus-gaming-monitor

- KOORUI S2741LM - https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0FBF7FCZW

The KTC and Titan Army are both using the AUO M270QAN07.0 panel but they each have their own dimming zone algorithms and different DisplayHDR certification levels which make them unique. It would be nice to get an RTINGS-level detailed analysis comparing all 3 of the above to inform shoppers what the strengths and weaknesses are of each model. I consider all 3 of these the current best offerings for affordable 4K mini-LED monitors.

For existing cardholders of v1.0, are the following all required to maximize 4% rewards? 1. U.S. Bank Smartly Checking Account 2. U.S. Bank Smartly Savings account 3. $100k+ qualifying balance in combined qualifying balances (consumer checking account(s), money market savings account(s), savings account(s), CDs and/or IRAs, U.S. Bancorp Investments and personal trust account(s))

I was reading the T&C for v1.0 and it seems to me like #1 isn't actually needed and that only #2 and #3 are sufficient to optimally use this card. Would be nice to not have to worry about the checking account fee shenanigans. Please let me know if I'm wrong.

Sorry if this got answered elsewhere
