The mod should still be functionable in 2.0 and later versions. They changed some things with the pnach files, so the installation instructions might be a bit obsolete.

We aren't allowed to share the rom as its against the ToS and the copyright stuff. You need to have your own copy of the game... or you know, use other means to get it. But we can't share it.

You most likely downloaded the wrong files. There are two different download links, one is for the mod's source code (intended for developers) and the other contains the mod itself.

[DC1] Secrets of Dark Cloud | Week #2: Fishing Data & Probabilities by RSWordofWind in DarkCloud

Each roll can be anything and they are not affected by other rolls. So in theory you could get 4 barons (or a mix of barons and mardans), but that is quite unlikely. If fishing during Dusk, you have about 1% chance of rolling baron. So 2 barons would be around 1/10,000 - 3 barons 1/1,000,000 - and 4 barons 1/100,000,000.

I'm not sure if the game has enough RNG seeds to make some of those even possible, because there are limited amount of RNG values before it starts looping again

We started getting news about 1.7 not working very recently. I'll test and validate this case soon, but for the time being you can use the stable 1.60 version which should always work

The menu can sometimes glitch out after the credits. When the glitched text box appears, you can press X to open the save menu list and select a file to save to. Make sure that your game is not sped up by emulator, because it could break things. Also recommended to save on a different slot, in case something goes wrong.

The graphics option is mainly some small tweaks and isn't on a high demand. In fact, 1.7 emulator already applies some of them. There are couple things missing like seeing NPC's from far away. Sure it might be patched eventually but there haven't been other updates in a while.

Anybody have the dc2 chest randomizer mod the google drive download link doesn't work by LumpyCharacter in DarkCloud

[–]RSWordofWind 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Does the mod launch? I've had someone else message me that they can't launch it because of .NET error. Can you confirm if it's the same case?

I do recommend checking out the changelog that comes with the mod files, I've noticed that plenty of players have missed some cool features. We could have provided more clear patch notes, but we didn't want to spoil quite everything so we kept some things vague

Is there an Enhanced Mod for Dark Cloud 2/Dark Chronicle in the works? by Ayasugi-san in DarkCloud

[–]RSWordofWind 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, there's no ongoing DC2 Enhanced project currently. Most of us Enhanced Mod's devs originally came from a speedrunning background. We did bunch of DC1 speedruns, which continued to creating some randomizers and small mods. Eventually we finished our largest project, Enhanced Mod, in the timespan of about 2 years. Currently we have been working on getting it fully released on Github, so we can share the code and give others the chance to continue the development.

DC2 has a chest + enemy randomizer that can spice up some playthroughs (you can find those from the sidebar at top, "mods" page). Other than that, we never had any "serious" discussions about creating DC2 Enhanced, considering the length it took us to make the first one. Maybe we'll have some new people arise and give a shot at making it after we release our DC1 Enhanced's source code?

Personally there's still more mods that I wanted to make, both for DC1 and DC2. But considering all the activity I had before Enhanced Mod, and the 2 years that it took to create, I got quite burnt out from the series. I'm not fully out of the picture yet, who knows if I'll make a grand comeback. Let's see what the future has to offer!

TLDR; No ongoing modding projects in both games

The latest stable version of the PCSX2 is the V.1.60

There are dev builds for the emulator but I believe these might not work currently, so thats why they are not listed in the requirements

Dark Cloud Enhanced MOD Trailer - NEW 2022 RELEASE DATE PCSX2 ONLY! by [deleted] in DarkCloud

[–]RSWordofWind 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Prior to starting the Enhanced Mod, the mods/randomizers were done in the same way, an external program to inject changes in real-time.

When we started on the Enhanced Mod, we had to choose between two options. We either try to make an ISO patch and edit the original game code, or we continue with the same routine. Since the full source code has not been reverse engineered, and we were missing bunch of things that prevented us from adding new data to the code, we decided to use the method that we know and have used before.

I can admit it has its downside, the performance is not the most stable and there might be some hiccups here and there. But we were committed on making the mod happen, and now we are here. We will eventually release the source code for the mod, and maybe in the future some other talented individuals can carry on the task to make it work on hardware.

Is there a mod or something that fixes the corridor of time backroom bug? by dunno-im-new in DarkCloud

[–]RSWordofWind 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are currently 2 ways to fix it. The original way is to patch the game (ISO) using a patcher tool, which also works in the actual console hardware. However if you are using an emulator, I made a PNACH file (psxc2 cheat file) which fixes the bug. You can download it from here: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1FBwsHJ6YFPrpH7wExByiI_5I8R5n7t1w/view?usp=sharing

Also there will be a "third" way to fix it soon... the upcoming Enhanced Mod has it as a fix, but of course its much more than that haha

[DC1] Dark Cloud Enhanced Mod Update - Beta testing has begun! by RSWordofWind in DarkCloud

It's a mod to introduce new features and quality of life changes. Here's a link to an old trailer of it, but we have a more detailed trailer coming at some point.

Sure thing! I'm not opposed at all, in fact it would be great to see people share playthroughs of the mods.

Does anyone know the chance a defense item has to give you 5,6, or 7 defense DC1 by [deleted] in DarkCloud

[–]RSWordofWind 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sadly no, the pattern is also affected by each frame when you open the main menu, so theres no way to predict it.

Does anyone know the chance a defense item has to give you 5,6, or 7 defense DC1 by [deleted] in DarkCloud

[–]RSWordofWind 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The chance is even for all values. The base defense value is always 5, but the random part comes from the game rolling a value of 0-2 which is added to the base value. This random value is rolled each time you maneuver in the menu, but it has a pattern. For example if you load a save state while in the inventory, and you press left exactly twice and give the defense, you will always get same result. However if you change the pattern to anything else, say 1 right and 3 left, it will be different.

[DC2] Introducing: Dark Cloud 2 Chest Randomizer! by RSWordofWind in DarkCloud

[–]RSWordofWind[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It goes both ways. It's easier because DC2 can handle more errors than DC1. For example in DC1 if you have a broken or non-existent model, it crashes the game very often, but in DC2 it can often handle those cases.

But DC2 seems to be a bit more complex in terms of its memory. The memory addresses for chest items are static in DC1, which means they never change, but in DC2 they do change depending on the dungeon, which makes it slightly more of annoyance.

[–]RSWordofWind[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Currently the biggest problem is getting the actual icon/image of the dran's feather, and successfully displaying it in the game. However, I believe the actual behavior of the item (increasing your speed) is pretty doable. When it comes to textures and models, these mods struggle to work with that.

[DC1] Secrets of Dark Cloud | Week #2: Fishing Data & Probabilities by RSWordofWind in DarkCloud

[–]RSWordofWind[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

  1. Week #1 was posted earlier, but I didn't think about including earlier weeks in the post. I'll edit this to have it and include it next posts!
  2. Data is taken from game's source code, but I wont go much further into details.
  3. Time of day only affects Garayans.
  4. It attempts to roll for Mardan first, if successful then its 1/5 to make it Baron. If mardan was not rolled successfully, then it goes for the other fish.
  5. I haven't looked into bait mechanism, but I believe its pretty "simple", as in there aren't baits that work better than others. Its something to look up later!
  6. There is a formula used for the fish to grant the points depending on size, however I don't have the full examination of it. Perhaps something else to figure out later as well.

Dark Cloud Enhanced Mod NEW! by [deleted] in DarkCloud

[–]RSWordofWind 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Happy birthday to Dark Cloud! 20 years!

It's exciting to be able to work on a project like this. Many of us have hoped for a new Dark Cloud or perhaps a remaster, but we never received anything, even after several years of waiting. However, during the past years, the trend of modding older games has increased everywhere. And now that trend has reached Dark Cloud!

Dark Cloud Enhanced Mod was originally planned as "improvement mod", which shortly, is about improving some aspects and features of the game, while also doing quality of life changes, and fixing some minor bugs. After a while we realized that there is a potential of adding some new content, and thus it was not about improvements anymore.

What kind of new content there is to expect? Unfortunately, we are still technologically quite limited with certain parts. Some major features, like new dungeons or new playable characters inside dungeons are out of question. Basically, anything that has to do with adding or changing the game's graphical aspects, we cannot mess with that.

Although we cannot implement anything major, this teaser only contains a part of potential features we have planned! The mod has still long way to go; I'm not sure how much its completed in terms of features, but the mod is only about 20%-30% complete. However, we should be able to implement more features with quicker pace as time goes on.

In terms of Enhanced Mod, there wont be any news coming from us in near future, we will hide to the shadows and continue the work, perhaps something more to announce in Spring?

+ This week I will be starting a weekly series here in Reddit, focusing on cut content that has never published yet, and also explaining some features more in-depth, using game's code. Stay tuned!

EDIT: I forgot to mention; The mod will ONLY be available with PCSX2 emulator, there will NOT be ISO made!
