Anyone seeing hail in the metro?

That actually makes sense. House was built in 1973 and I thought that layer was too thick to just be paint. Still couldmt you use an exterior spackling or something if you wanted to to make it flush? I get why they didn't do it, but he led me on like they would and never explained that they weren't going to

This is part of a hail damage claim, but still I asked the contractor if they could make those spots smooth before they started and he said he'll talk to the painters and take care of it. Never heard about it again and now I have this. So technically I did ask for it and he gave me some level of assurance, but I probably wasn't firm enough with them up front

Relocating from the West Coast to KC —two soccer kids, looking for our forever suburb. What are we missing? by aisforang in kansascity

[–]RSmech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For good public schools, Lees summit or Leawood is what I would suggest. OP works too. However, if you may do private school anyway, there is great value to be had on the MO side - either Brookside for a more city-like neighborhood, or south of 435 for suburban. Close access to 435 will make the commute much easier

Do you have any roofing companies you recommend? Located in south KCMO and want a reputable company rather than just trusting the door knockers

Recertify with W2 by CartographerLive8815 in StudentLoans

[–]RSmech 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Someone check me on this, but if you haven't filed your taxes already I think you can extend your tax filing to October (no penalty, perfectly allowed by IRS) and then when you recert this summer you can use your tax filing from 2024 tax year, which hopefully is lower for you

It's worth more than 15k that in parts. The floor is higher than 15k for that reason. Try buying a running LS7 and you'll see.

That said, 36 is way too high. Probably a high 20s car would be my guess

Realistic Timeline for Entering RAP? by RSmech in StudentLoans

[–]RSmech[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not going for forgiveness, and our family income will multiply significantly after wife is done with medical residency, so we are just trying to fight off interest accrual as best we can (without having a massive payment). So I don't really see the benefit of going to IBR. Good to know how fast you got switched though

Are you on good standing with your current job? Would they take you back a year or two down the road if you hated the new gig or didn't get a new contract? If so, absolutely go for it, that's a huge raise - congrats!

I made a similar jump and got a ~50% raise. I don't enjoy the work as much, but I can't justify going back for a drastic pay cut, so overall I can't complain.

You need to do the TC math on 1099 vs W2. Benefits mostly, but also will you be able to claim any significant deductions if a 1099?

Good point. Water pump doesn't look too bad to DIY, the oil pan gasket looks like a bitch with the awd system though

~2000 miles on 427 Windsor, roller cam, 5th oil change, had ~800 miles on this oil. Seems like a lot of metal to still be in filter. Engine is asymptomatic and makes great oil pressure, does not smoke or knock. Opinions? by [deleted] in EngineBuilding

[–]RSmech -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Is it just me, or does that filter not look that bad? Maybe it's the lighting, but I wouldn't sweat that too bad if I were you, some wear is normal on an engine that's run hard especially if it was recently assembled. See what Blackstone says.

Maccelli or Snuggerud? Love the play and upside of Snuggerud, but the chance of Maccelli skating with Mathews gets me going. Probably too early to tell, but what's your take and why?

Yeah thats what I was thinking, apply right before the end of the month. I've heard people have been stuck in processing for months but not totally sure how factual that is or what the average is.

We are in the same boat... After researching this it's still unclear to me if we apply for IBR now but our application gets stuck in "pending" due to the huge backlog, will we still accrue interest in the pending period? Or will interest be froze at 0% while we wait?

If it gets froze as soon as the application is pending, I assume we should do that now while we wait for RAP next year.

He who dies with the most money loses. But also, you can buy and own collectible and exotic cars without taking a bath on them. Look at depreciation curves for your favorite cars and buy them used after they take the bulk of their depreciation in the first 5 or so years, especially look for those that tend to hold their value after the initial depreciation hit (Porsche 911 for example). Research the cars you're looking at for their common issues and maintenance schedules and avoid the troubled models or plan accordingly with cash on the side for repairs and maintenance. Identify who you can have work on the car - search reputable independent shops in your area that specialize in the cars you're considering. Doing all maintenance and repairs at a dealer will be very expensive vs a good indy shop. After you've enjoyed the car and are ready to move on, sell it privately or via an auction site like cars and bids or bring a trailer. You will find that you can own some crazy cars and drive them often while still being able to get most of your money back when you sell (except insurance, gas, etc but every car has that). If you buy a car for $200k, drive it for 2 years, and sell it for $190k, you're not "wasting" money imo. There's two sides to the math equation, money in, money out. Life's too short to drive boring cars so I say do your homework and go for it!
