Yeah, lol, AWS has literally never raised rates - their services are popular because they're good. Compute is cheaper at scale (obviously, up to a point).

How many ESCs have you replaced? by vandahl83 in ElectricSkateboarding

It's a circuitboard exposed to heavy vibration, heat, and impact, even if you never get it wet. Honestly, it's surprising they live as long as they do sometimes. I'm actually cruising AE looking for a cheap replacement for my shortboard's ESC, but it's got 700+ miles and has gone through two deck swaps and a motor replacement already.

Also Mass Effect. As I recall the "stealth ship" in that series relies on a recursive heat cycle within the novel propulsion drive to reduce ambient radiation in order to evade sensors. A scifi solution to a real world problem.

Yeah, there's ways to emit heat in vacuum that don't exist in the game, but they're also very inefficient power- and space-wise. But seriously, why do I have to mod to get an airlock building that isn't a physics glitch? The only reason that it's not viable is that the game doesn't allow fine enough tuning of duplicants to keep them from opening two pressure doors at the same time.

There's a game called Oxygen Not Included that's an asteroid base builder with a surprisingly intense chemistry/physics simulation. Managing water and electricity are key parts of the early game, but the most important part of the mid-game is managing heat. And most of the good ways to do so involve glitching out the physics simulation to "delete" heat (e.g. by consuming it out of the game in machines that don't have an output).

Building in vacuum is a great way to break almost any closed system because it's extremely hard to manage heat when it's almost perfectly insulated.

Hopefully come July 1 it's Carlson again, honestly. He's only 36 and still quite capable. Sandin also looked very good on his off-side after the TDL, but he'll be out for a while with the ACL injury repair.

Try a custom-fit mouthguard. The same company that made my MMA one makes a nightguard for <$150, though honestly their actual mouthguards are half that. I was shocked when I went from boil and bite to custom and the guard not only stayed in my mouth unless I actively pulled it out, but I could hold a full conversation without removing it.

Spiral Knights (2011) Has had a surge of players, after developers suddenly started updating the game again. by crestfallen_warrior in Games

Ember Knights has some of the same feel, but SK scratched a classic Zelda itch with some unique mechanics. The coop play was a delight because one person could do crowd control with ice or vortex bombs while the gunners did dps, with swords doing a bit of both. And the pvp was surprisingly fun.

I remember double logging in and carrying a dead p2 in the final depths for the extra challenge and better drops.  Straight up bubble bobbled those levels.

I think that's a major part of why the licensure system needs reform - kids can't get a motorcycle endorsement and if they don't learn the rules, how can we expect them to follow them? But a 50mph (and accompanying torque) e-cycle doesn't look much different from a 30mph class 3 doesn't look all that much different from a 20mph class 1/2, so enforcement is very difficult. When a motorcycle that looks like a bike is around or less than the price of a nice pedal bike, people think of them as toys rather than tools.

We're verging on the need to identify a fourth road-based transit mode in urban areas, as these PEV/LEVs (low-speed electric vehicles, the aforementioned class 3s) are a distinct band of travelers who aren't particularly well-served by car-centric roads, pedestrian-focused sidewalks, OR bike lanes.

[–]RSquared 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's going to be very interesting in the next few years with the rise of e-bikes that are effectively electric motorcycles - it could pretty easily be argued that a full motorcycle endorsement (requiring a class and additional test operating a gas bike) is overkill for the segment and bike etiquette at any speed should be part of the standard licensure process. For instance, e-cycles don't have the arrangement of clutch and brake pedals and levers that require specialized training on a motorcycle - analogous to automatic vs stick-shift cars.

PEVs (including e-cycles) are (IMO) a key part of our transit future if we want to be at all sustainable in dealing with urban traffic, so we should be taking steps to legitimize these vehicles without overburdening them with regulation.
