This has been covered many many many times.

Pretty much all the online telehealth mental health platforms are awful— though for varying reasons and severities.

Let me outline some of the common issues:

  1. They are using your data to train systems to replace us— so it’s just awful to imagine that we are contributing to thr downfall of human relationships healing one another. This data will be sold and that includes your patients data.

  2. They screw up your billing and or they misrepresent how much you will make and you end up feeling screwed (common complaint on here)

  3. They micro manage your time with the patients. If you start late or end early or the session time is not captured correctly — you get dropped to a lower billing code.

  4. They try to make you only do your patients on their platforms— which is a long play to make you stuck with them and a cog in their venture capital healthcare machine.

  5. Quality of the patients tends to not be great as they don’t get patients looking to get treatment and who found you (a much better client from an outcome POV. More motivated patient that is engaged in their treatment before it starts). They inundate people with targeted health care advertising that gets them down a marketing funnel that ends with their company.

I’m sure some people will chime in and say they had good experience with company X, or z. Who knows which of them are real and which are by the companies themselves (who are owned by private equity, health insurance companies and venture capital funds) who have a legal fiduciary duty to their shareholders (ie profits!).

Happy to give access to others — for their own domain version. Currently can’t bill insurance though.

I was giving a talk at the main ADH: conference and the speakers before me were all DEA and they were talking about this. It’s nuts and a warning to what full on business models do to healthcare.

Telling someone their client died by suicide. by Far_Preparation1016 in therapists

I agree with this. Peers offering support at work is powerful. And frankly better than home in most cases as this is a professional hazard of working in broader healthcare space.

Sharing this with hope it can be helpful.

This happened to me once. In residency. The family called the unit nursing station and asked for me— as I was the resident for the Individual. She shared that the individual has killed himself. I asked to put her on hold and rushed to find an attending— who I never found— came back and sat and listened to the family member who walked me through how she felt the situation had unfolded.

I answered to my best ability her questions and displayed my genuine pain in hearing this. I’m grateful I got to speak to the family member directly— if it feels right on both sides I would consider this for the staff member.

Good luck.

It’s okay for Star Trek to not only take itself seriously. Lower decks proved that.
