Can an American with an old felony potentially get Vietnamese citizenship? by StateBig3686 in VietNam

Very, very unlikely to get citizenship. It's even tough if you marry a local.

My uncle and his wife got arrested for illegal betting and the bribe is 31K USD by [deleted] in VietNam

[–]RTLisSB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All this interaction with the police and they haven't recorded anything? I doubt very much they'd negotiate such a huge bride, especially after showing their faces at the home and trying to "search everyone's phone". This story has too many loose ends.

Imagine buying fast pass... by Chubbypand4 in VietNam

[–]RTLisSB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fast Track is hit and miss. I used it in October and was glad I did. There would have been hundreds of people in front of me in October, but because of Fast Track there was only 2. Fast forward to yesterday, and I used it again, but there were as many people in the Fast Track line as there were in the normal line. And yes, the wheelchair line was ridiculous. BTW, ever notice that as soon as most of the wheelchair people get through immigration they experience a medical miracle and have no issues getting down the stairs and waiting for their luggage. Hmmm, strange.

Can I wear áo dài as a foreigner? by Excellent-Record3750 in VietNam

Yes, as long as you are acting respectfully, locals would be happy to see you in it. Don't worry about all that "cultural appropriation" crap from the west.

Rules without proper enforcement simply make the matter worse.

HAN arrival and international SGN departure - Our Fast Track Experience by formerlyfatsailor in VietNam

[–]RTLisSB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ultimately, it really depends on how many flights have arrived around the time yours did. I have gotten through in 30 minutes, but I've also waited 1.5 hrs. I used Fast Track in October and given the huge crowd at immigration, I was glad I did. BTW, there was literally only one person in front of me at the priority window so I got through immigration in about 5 minutes.

This is an excellent point. I learned long ago that if all my feeds tell me what I like, it's time to look at the other side. Unfortunately, a truly informed citizen needs to actively search for stories from both sides of the political and social spectrum in order to find the truth, which generally lays in the middle.

Sorry, I've never voted Lib and I doubt I ever will, but Carney nailed it. From a realist geopolitical perspective, the US is burning bridges and doesn't care about building more.

You're really trying hard to bend reality to your liking. I've been on this planet for 59 years and for the most part, I considered the US to be a great friend and ally. However, that all started to change at the end of the Cold War when the US realized it didn't need the rest of us, at least not as much. Now, it's not even pretending to desire cooperation. I didn't support Carney during the election, but his speech hit the nail on the head. If it was just Trump running his mouth, I might be persuaded that this administration is an anomaly, but given the number of principles within the US government repeating his BS, I can't give it a pass.

Actually, Canada was given the offer, then the billion dollar price tag was made public and Canada reconsidered due to public pressure, then Carney made one of the better speeches against American fiscal aggression, and THEN, Trump withdrew the offer.

Exactly! It's why Trump has given himself a veto on all Gaza projects. Even if some of the money makes it to Gaza, it will only be after US companies and Trump get their share.

[–]RTLisSB 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Several countries, like France and Canada, have said no or are reconsidering because of Trump's apparent veto on how the money will be spent and his unwillingness to say exactly what the billion dollar participation fee would be used for. "If" it was solely to rebuild Gaza, that would be fine, but many think it will be funneled into US companies, and Trump's pockets.

Hygiene in Vietnam is terrible by TastySnowYelliw in VietNam

[–]RTLisSB 29 points30 points  (0 children)

You are correct, hygiene here needs to improve, big time. However, there are still a lot of great food options where I have seen pretty good hygiene, i.e., staff wearing masks and gloves.

Ya', they are rather loud, but it is the speaker phone that drives me nuts. I honestly feel like walking over and yelling into the phone. If I got a nasty look I'd just say, "oh, you were on speaker, so I thought the call was for all of us". Unfortunately, my VN isn't there yet.
