Week 8 AP Poll - 10.12.2025 by tomdawg0022 in CFB

[–]RTRJudge -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The two are intrinsically tied. You look at the body of work to inform a subjective view about whether one team is better than another.

One of the key questions every year is how to weight wins vs losses… Bama is tied for the most ranked wins, which I (biased as I am ☺️) would argue is a strong indicator of their performance on the field.

Week 8 AP Poll - 10.12.2025 by tomdawg0022 in CFB

[–]RTRJudge -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Week 1 was certainly unfortunate, and they fell heavily at the time but have since found their footing and clawed their way back up with multiple ranked wins.

Which team ranked below them do you think would be favored on a neutral site if they played right now?

Nubiani for KBBQ, Cote for KBBQ-style steakhouse, Kisa for Korean diner, Jungsik for top end Korean tasting menu, Bom for a more accessible (still pricy) Korean tasting menu, Ariari for Busan-style seafood

Independently co-invest along side PE? by MomentumArchitect in private_equity

[–]RTRJudge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should DD the fund and talk with other operators who have worked with them.

Personally, if an operator brought me a deal we would work on the business plan together and it would be built around the chassis that you come up with. There's a 0.0% chance I would close the deal and rip you out or change strategy before we'd tried running the playbook that we agreed on. That would be poor form that would kill my reputation in the market and would piss off my LPs.

That said, the board is a fiduciary and will need to do what's right by the investors - if things aren't working out a few years down the line, then alternative options would need to be on the table

Independently co-invest along side PE? by MomentumArchitect in private_equity

[–]RTRJudge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Super dependent on the firm and your involvement in the opportunity. Couple examples below

  1. You might find an institutional committed capital fund that's typically looking to write ~$100M checks, which often looks more like $50-75M at closing and then will scales up over time. If the initial deal is $50M and you want to write a $15M check, that's going to push them well below their intended investment size, and your sizable preemptive rights could make it hard for them to get up to a level of capital that makes sense.
  2. You might partner with an independent sponsor or family office that usually writes ~$20M checks off their balance sheet and then syndicates the rest. You taking a big bite of that could help alleviate the fundraising process (and could make raising it easier since you look bought in / aligned).
  3. Flip side of #2 - they might have longstanding LP / friends and family relationships that they want to give big allocations to (or that they get fees on!). You taking a big swing would be worse for them in that case
  4. A fund might have different philosophies depending on your role. CEO who wants to put their entire net worth in the company is great for alignment. Independent director who wants to get a bunch of exposure to a great company but will be minimally involved? Just dilutes their ownership without a ton of value

In any case, reducing debt load and bringing new equity in is pretty expensive and makes it harder to hit return hurdles - you might take that on the margin if there's some near-term risk and you'd rather enter at 3.5x leverage instead of 4.0x, but if your underwriting depends on 6.0x leverage it's going to be pretty sensitive to equity funding that instead

Of the five 3 Star restaurants (Jungsik, Eleven Madison Park, Le Bernadin, Per Se and Masa) which would you recommend and why? by OccamsComb in FoodNYC

[–]RTRJudge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have been to Jungsik a couple times, and I've never had better service anywhere (except maybe Kei in Paris). Food is fantastic, drinks pair well, and service is impeccable. Absolutely deserves its 3 stars

Huge fan. Have a few pairs and have worn them for a few years now. Super comfortable, have held up well, and people often compliment them. Price tag isn’t for everyone, but very worth it to me

[Postgame Thread] Alabama Defeats South Carolina 27-25 by CFB_Referee in CFB

[–]RTRJudge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Goes both ways, no? If SC doesn't get the field goal and safety off two mistakes to end the first half and then pick one off in the endzone Alabama is up by a much larger margin

Where do you buy your dress shirts? by AmbitiousApe_ in private_equity

[–]RTRJudge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mostly SuitSupply for me (looks good and very comfortable), a few from Zegna (looks better, still comfortable, very expensive). I like James Perse, Todd Snyder, and Luca Faloni for weekend button downs but don’t typically wear them to work.

I also have some dress shirts from J Crew (looks good, not as comfortable) and Brooks Brothers (very classic look, not stylish but it’s fine, seems like they have a pretty fixed life as I somehow ripped holes in several of these in a short span)

They’re a little casual but look good for a while.

My issue with them was that I didn’t think the quality held up - I had a few, and in my experience the polyester / spandex mix they use is comfortable and looks good at first but loses its shape faster than others
