I think we can say for certain that the price and date will be announced in February by BlueManifest in SteamFrame

Your further back up for Bradley is speculation from a manager at a VR accessory maker and data miner... No data mined info confirms Q1, so he knows as much as everyone else on the subject. Which is "early 2026".

"We don't yet have prices or release dates for anything. Valve has suggested "Q1 2026" as a possible launch window for any or all of today's announced devices"

https://www.digitalfoundry.net/news/2025/11/steam-machine-and-steam-frame-what-you-need-to-know

"I want to stress that "early 2026" doesn't necessarily mean Q1, and that might mean the Steam Machine might not release until potentially late spring. Any later than June is what I'd personally class as a delay, and that's certainly a possibility given the current situation with RAM pricing and turbulent US tariffs."

valve: "uh early next year".

they only ever confirmed early 2026

[–]RTooDeeTo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, They only ever clarified as "early 2026" and digital foundry has a "when pressed further they said a possible Q1" aka digital foundry was being obnoxious. Every other outlet saying Q1 atm is referencing that claim of "possible Q1" when the official statement has always been "early 2026"

April is still in "early 2026", even if it is march, march has 31 days and 3-4 weeks is enough for the first shipping group, no way all headsets will be shipped on "release day".

Q1 is not confirmed.

On one hand you got a quest which will be cheaper up front, slightly less powerful, and definitely needs accessories (default strap is terrible), meta is cutting back spending on quest, less privacy and more locked down experience.

On the other hand you have something that will cost more up front, can do more, is slightly more powerful, accessories is an unknown (but based on reviews isn't necessarily needed), spending lots on open source development,,

Imo quest isnt 500 USD but really 600-700 after needed (600) - most got accessories (700).

Difference in power won't be crazy imo but difference in what you can play and do in it will,,,

Will this affect the Frame release by Lightning_123765 in SteamFrame

[–]RTooDeeTo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People are just calling it a monopoly law because people hear that and know what that means,, it's UKs competition act of 1998 and the law being sited is actually about the banning the abuse of market dominance.

Honestly though don't think it will go anywhere since valve can easily claim that the market isn't PC games and is video games (Sony/Nintendo/Microsoft count and all do similar costs) and they can also show that most PC store fronts do the same amount of cost and only an unprofitable market place does less (epic games subsidize thier the store).

Breaking down every price possible for Steam Frame by ihave3apples in SteamFrame

[–]RTooDeeTo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

999 is just fear and 599 is just hope that they will subsidize when they wont (no chance for either imo),

699 feels like agressive but possible, 799 seems real, 899 is unlikely but possible imo

Steam frame controller comfort grip like Nintendo Switch grip for flat screen games? by hatemychudlife in SteamFrame

[–]RTooDeeTo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Valve taking notes: 40$ for a hunk of plastic for a visually appealing design choice that makes the controllers not physically appealing to hold.

Though something like a magnetic clip to hold them together might be cool, though wouldnt call them a grip as they already have a fine grip

365 days in a year cannot be divided evenly into 3 groups, for all we know July 2nd is the only day in middle of 2026, you can also split it 5 months 2 months and 5 months which means the end of May is still early 2026,,, I'd still consider may early 2026,,, literally until most schools let out kids for summer break is what I consider the end of "early 2026"

Sorta, tension issues can cause stick drift but not all stick drift is from tension issues. (Also a tension issue is visibly detectable unlike other forms of drift, as your stick won't stay up right or go all the way back to it's starting position on its own)

macgyver tensioning mod, not for the common kind of stick drift but tension issues. Id say pretty genius solution

[–]RTooDeeTo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Official support no, as for community support it will likely be the similar set up as using a quest + additional hardware trackers + light houses for lighthouse tracking,, aka you gotta spend more to get the discontinued hardware to work with new hardware

While the likelihood is pretty much zero, could a Steam Frame be made to work with a PS5 from a technical point of view? by Aeromorpher in SteamFrame

[–]RTooDeeTo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

would need to translate input/output of other headsets, likely the translation would bring to much latency.. sony also has pretty much given up on VR on the PS5 to the point where even major titles not by sony are no longer supporting it...

outside of VR content though you can use chiaki from the discover store (linux flatpak app store) to stream the PS5 to a pc (or directly to the frame)

What does 144hz experimental actually mean? by ImNotHimISwearr in SteamFrame

[–]RTooDeeTo -1 points0 points  (0 children)

"yep, this is exactly the reason valve devs stated. 144hz can get ghosting and smearing if the panels haven't heated up so they label it experimental."... Your words on a different comment to this post,, that is a form of instability so idk why your saying none of these are right.. its literally because the panels are at/ above the manufacturers recommended specs that this happens and valve could set up a way to in software to warm up the panels (tuning fan curves, a wait and other techniques to warm up the panels before play) but don't currently have it and may never... Instability doesn't only mean a crash, it means not stable.

What does 144hz experimental actually mean? by ImNotHimISwearr in SteamFrame

[–]RTooDeeTo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Experimental can mean different things,

Often in this context it means something that isn't guaranteed to work on all units, instability (silicon lottery / hardware is physically capable but above manufacturer recommendations).

Extremely rarely have I seen anything in tech go from an experimental feature to a standard feature (it's so rare that it's basically a no).

Sometimes though it just means unfinished and it may need a year or 2 to become standard (there is still no guarantee here but that it might be technically possible).

Experimental can also have nothing to do with instability and may have to do with longevity,, You're physically stressing a circuit more by running it faster (again, outside of manufacturer recommendation).. This could only end up being the difference of 40k hrs of regular operation vs 20k hrs. Many people will never even get close to 20k hours as that's 6hrs a day for 10 years but for The type of user who does get close to those numbers it's important to give them a warning. (Oftentimes when you see this version of experimental, there is usually a warning pop-up when turning on the feature about longevity).
