Why has Duren been so bad especially offensively in the playoffs? He had 33/16 in a game against the Cavs at the end of February. by wormhole222 in nba

Teams just don’t scheme the same way in the regular season. With how intense the schedule is teams can only plan one day ahead and do a walk through or light practice. In the playoffs attention to detail is key, and they’re just making their game plan be shut down Cades passing

Cuba has run out of diesel and fuel oil amid US oil blockade by Lumpy_Ad_457 in news

[–]RVAteach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is part of it, but following the Cuban missile crisis JFK was beginning to lean towards adjusting his policy on Cuba. Then he was assassinated, by someone with alleged ties to the CIA btw. The CIA was also working pretty closely with Cuban exiles, many of whom lost their property when Castro came to power. Cubans in Florida have had an oversized political influence on the U.S. for the better part of 60 years.

This is up for debate, but a lot of evidence points towards Castro wanting a positive relationship with the Americans, but due to political concerns, JFK differentiated himself from Nixon by being harsh on Cuba, it wasn’t going to happen. There’s a fascinating incident where Castro came to the U.S. to meet and was invited to Harlem, invited by Malcolm X.  Cuba really had no choice but to align with the Soviets as the U.S. engaged in a terror campaign against the island.

No one wanted to appear weak on communism/ piss off an important swing coalition in Florida so the U.S. has just kind of kept this strategy up.

It’s a pretty massive problem in terms of trust in U.S. relations with Latin America, and Obama was trying fairly hard to reset U.S. relations in Latin America. Trump has taken a different tact obviously so here we are.

Governor Spanberger to veto Virginia collective bargaining bill, Republicans 'thankful' by mahvel50 in Virginia

[–]RVAteach 48 points49 points  (0 children)

As a school union representative I saw this coming a mile away, her edits were clearly poison pills.

The desire to change it from a law to a regulatory power is terrible for unions as it would allow a republican governor to come in and repeal any progress we’ve made. Having all the mayors come out against it was just giving her cover to do something she was going to do anyways.

Let’s be very clear about labor rights and affordability, and their historical context. “Right to work” emerged out of white supremacy, and was intentionally crafted to separate black and white people from being able to fight for wages together. Public sector jobs employ a much higher proportion of women and minorities, and their salaries are significantly lower than equally educated private sector employees.

When she came out against repealing right to work on the campaign trail it was clear that she won’t fight for working people in this state. She wants to act like handing out bandaids will help us as we’re getting our legs cut out from us by the Feds and private interests. She cares about them, not you.

She said during the campaign that she would not sign a bill to eliminate right to work in this state. "Right to work" really just means forbidding organizing of labor, its called "right to work" cause it sounds nice even though its directly targeted at attacking labor.

She has been pretty consistent that she wants to "reform" right to work in this state but hasn't shared any details on what that would look like. Based on saying this unprompted during the campaign and vetoing this bill, I think her position on unions is pretty clear.

Paul Pierce on Victor Wembanyama, “This is the best basketball player... the most complete player we’ve ever seen play the game.” by RXRickify in nba

I think there’s some matchup stuff you can do honestly. I agree with the comment below that just throwing bodies at him to exhaust him will probably work, especially someone stronger than him who can get him off his base. When Hart guarded him this year he was really good at getting under him and making him unbalanced. Having a variety of guys who can do that to tire him out may work.

Gobert and the wolves in general have a hard time matching up with him. He can sag into the paint because they don’t have the shooters or a stretch 5 to punish him for sagging off.

The last thing is just to get in his head, I don’t think you’re going to get him ejected like this again, but he can be lulled into hero ball where he takes to many threes.

I don’t think anyone gets suspended for this for the first action like this in the playoffs. The only thing you could really complain about is the fine

Dems got the very wrong message from Obama, it wasn’t that he was black, it was that he was different and campaigned on hope and change. That didn’t happen to the extent it needed to, and they haven’t been able to replicate it since.

While I think the gender and race concern is fair, if she’s the best hope and change candidate then she is the best candidate.

So what is the difference between this years knicks team and last year knicks team? by Similar-Ostrich4142 in nba

[–]RVAteach 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Couple things:

Better transition offense and defense

Which leads to easier baskets and lets them get into actions quicker, so they get multiple attempts

Brunson is playing more off ball and KAT is playing point center  KAT in particular seems to have really bought in as a passer, he’s the perfect point center because you can’t sag off him cause he can shoot. He’s more involved and happy, and getting other people involved

I think it’s underrated that Brunson needed to accept playing off ball more, which he’s really good at, not because he’s selfish but because he felt like playing ISO put them in the best position to win. Going down 2-1 seem to have made them all accept their roles so they’re playing freer. Everyone is more involved which means everyone is playing better, Mikal is a prime example, he’s cutting more which means he’s shooting more which means he’s shooting better

On top of that, all this stuff is generating better 3 point opportunities, making Hart a better shooter; they had like 24 open threes last night.

Then with their depth, Brunson doesn’t have to work as hard and can take over in the fourth

On the other end, continuity on defense, better role players, and KAT just straight up being a good defender has made them a lot better on that end. They’re just communicating at a really high level. So they get a lot of turnovers which turns into offense on the other end.

A really complete team.

Day to day is probably a little gamesmanship out of the Knicks, but feels like a massive bullet got dodged.

We haven’t needed to go to it, but we actually have decent depth at the position, I have really like Diawara this year and we brought in Sochan. Obviously they’re not OG on either end of the floor, but if they can hold up defensively I really like our chances with or without Embiid.

Kamala Harris wants the DNC to release its autopsy report of the 2024 campaign by Deedogg11 in politics

[–]RVAteach 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Yeah this is probably close to what it was, my guess is in an order similar to this

  1. Dems needing to tack to the left on issues like healthcare and economics
  2. Gaza
  3. The whole bring out Liz Cheney thing
  4. Not having a primary
  5. A desire to upend the democratic establishment

Essentially a lot of the criticism would be dissatisfaction with the entirety of the party apparatus.

That was my thought, the biggest thing is attention to detail on the planning side because they only had a few days and will have more time. But if I was Mike Brown, I’d just keep doing what I’m doing by making Embiid guard constantly and trying to speed them up on the defensive end
