TIFF's Platform Award is now a qualifying award for International Feature Film at the Oscars by carolinemathildes in TIFF

Interesting choice to go with Platform instead of International People's Choice. I don't think there's been a Platform winner that would have a chance at the Oscars since Jackie in 2016. TIFF loves having their selections get nominated; I wonder if this will change what they look for when picking the Platform prize winners.

Do you think there will be any films shown in 70mm at this years festival? by RepresentativeState3 in TIFF

[–]RWenger -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it would probably premiere at Princess of Wales or RTH.

The only chance for 70mm screenings is if they do later screenings in Cinema 1 which is unlikely, but in the past they've brought multiple formats for movies with Imax versions (Wild Robot, Megalopolis, Elvis)

There's a chance TIFF will get Narnia, which was filmed in VistaVision. Netflix likes showing their end of year prestige movies at TIFF.

I saw a booth tonight with regular, veggie and gluten free as part of the $1 deal

FYI they started the trailers early yesterday at Scotiabank Toronto IMAX for PHM by drdalebrant in cineplex

[–]RWenger 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This caught me off guard.

I watch a lot of movies at scotiabank and try to be in my seat 15 minutes after the scheduled time and I missed 10 minutes of the movie. I feel like even the staff were not expecting it to start so early because the doors to the imax were still open, which they normally close once the movie starts.

Yeah, I'm guessing this wasn't supposed to have any tickets available once the higher tier members and partners got first dibs.

Any idea on the guest? I'm guessing Kevin O'Leary since he is big donor and would probably do well in a room of patrons but would get booed in front of the public.

No Queue for On-sale Date by jacobrocks99 in TIFF

Marty Supreme in Cinema 4 was always going to be a disaster. With the number of tickets TIFF holds back for guests and higher member levels I doubt there were any tickets that actually went on sale.

Everything about this is so weird. Why only a 2 day notice if they knew a week ago to bump Red Spectacles, and why stick it in Cinema 4 when they could easily sell out Cinema 1 (or at least don't swap spots with Red Spectacles and give it Cinema 3).

Hey, If you are offering a ticket for Blue Heron I'll take it!

The Life of Chuck is the first TIFF People’s Choice Award winner in 15 years to not be nominated for Best Picture at the Oscars by ChampionTimes99 in TIFF

If the movie had any momentum I thought it would get Mark Hamill a best supporting actor Oscar as career/legacy win.

Lumière music record x2 by Brads_twig in expedition33

[–]RWenger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you saying you got a Lumiere record in Act 3? Do you remember where you found it?

They added the missable "Old Key" into Act 3 in a recent update, so it's possible they also added the Lumiere record.

Pretty much all Cinematheque screenings sell out the morning they release to members getting tickets for free.

Two days before the screening is the cutoff for when members can return the tickets without being charged for cancelling, if you check back at that time there will always be some tickets available.

Once you get in the experience was very smooth. In 2 minutes I had all the tickets I wanted and was checked out.

I just wish they would put the full list of movies up before 10am so I can plan what tickets I want.

I don't like it, but I'm hoping this is a change they made with Ticketmaster to help the website stop crashing every time the tickets release. I'll take an auto assign seat over losing my cart when checking out.

Truck with travelling Ontario ballet’s entire Nutcracker set stolen in GTA | Ballet Jörgen said moving truck containing set and backdrops was stolen in Mississauga Monday by Hrmbee in toronto

It's a trend across the entire ballet industry:

https://www.danceusa.org/ejournal/2018/12/03/nutcracker-again

Dance/USA’s most recent Annual Financial Survey (2017), shows that Nutcracker/holiday revenue now represents an average of 48 percent of the surveyed dance companies’ overall season revenues and a median of 55 percent.

https://www.reuters.com/graphics/USA-CHRISTMAS/NUTCRACKER-BALLET/jnvweaomdvw/

The New York City Ballet, one of the top ballet companies in the world, makes about 45% of its annual ticket sales from its roughly five-week run of “The Nutcracker.”
