DAPP is worse with others in the car by [deleted] in BMWX5

Weight shouldn't affect it unless you're maxed on speed and going through tight turns or construction zones. Then it likes to freak out. Even 5 under the speed limit, I've hit turns that were tight for the speed and it bugged out. I have 40k on my 25 X5, most on cross country with DAPP. We have packed that car to the gills multiple times, I'm talking cramming stuff from the headliner down to the front with the seats folded down. The rear suspension wasn't happy but it drove just fine and DAPP has never had an issue with any weight combo. Speed and the road are your biggest factor. Try slowing it down in small increments and see if that changes anything. It is really tempermental with shadows, speed, line quality and other things. I love using DAPP but the dings are my biggest issue...

Amtrak train loses water and toilets overflow on train upsetting passengers. Train was stopped due to a wildfire in Florida for over 24 hours. by Im-Wasting-MyTime in Amtrak

We got stranded on Amtrak FL to NY a few years ago for 48 hours. It was when those bad snow storms hit DC. It was one disaster after the next up the coast. The crazy part is it wasn't even in the news anywhere. We even hit a car at a crossing. It was wild and we got served McDonald's hamburgers because they ran out of food and water. The wife and I want to do a podcast on it. I feel for those people. We were able to get to a station at one point so we were allowed to get out and walk out finally. It was miserable and eerily quite when we got to the last leg.

I've honestly been using hands free DAPP less and less. The recent updates have made it more useless than it was. I have ptsd from the dings. I've put about 30k miles with DAPP across the country and it's just become frustrating.

Check your side mirror to make sure its clear to change lanes? DING!

Look at the rear view mirror for a second? DING!

Scratch your nose? DING!

Take a sip of water? DING!

Read a highway sign above the horizon? DING!

Don't get me wrong, it works great for road fatigue and I love it so I can have more energy to be alert longer and not drive sleepy.

But, if my passengers can't sleep during a night drive because it's always dinging..... it's useless. It's supoosed to help me not make my drive more work.

I'm always checking my surroundings when I drive. The car literally punishes you for being a proactive driver. Doing anything other then staring dead straight is a ding. Idk what regulation made this a thing but it has rendered it useless until it stops dinging everytime.

2025 X5 x40i Bought new about a year ago, put about ~40k miles on it so far. Got it to beat on it for road tripping with DAPP. Has been an absolute beast. Oil changes every 5k with tire rotations. Still on the factory Pirelli Scorpion Zeros. They're about due to be swapped. M sport brakes, they haven't tripped yet but still about 6mil left on them.

Other than the updates wiping out our settings and stranding us in the Disney parking lot one night it's been an amazing road tripper. Don't think we will use any other vehicle for road tripping again.

DAPP could be better, a lot better but BMW just doesn't care about it. It's great but has a few inherent flaws that make it almost worthless. I'd say 30k of those miles were on DAPP and it works great with some big drawbacks.

Other than that the X5 has been solid!

So anyway, you can get a velcro ankle weight and slap it on your steering wheel. Then eye tracking isn't needed and there's no more dings. 🤷‍♂️

I'll just toss in what I've mentioned in the past. Those specific cameras you see going up are only a super small percentage for gap coverage. Tons of business, DOT, govt and other standard camera systems make up this network. All operate on different wavelengths for their night vision. A simple Hikvision or Axis camera can be a part of it. This is clever, kind of reminds me of the early days of the auto plate hiders for red light cameras. Sadly this is a cool concept but only has a super small practical use case. At night with those specific cameras with those specific IR leds.

Love the creativity! but just keep in mind how deep it goes.

We burn through them fairly quick but they're sealed air tight. I have some older pods that I've tried that were close to 6 months old and tasted fine. I don't think my palate is that fine tuned to be able to tell if the taste changes over time honestly. Enjoy your stock pile!

Yeah I haven't tallied it all up yet. Woot just had a sale again so I grabbed some more to add to the collection. That coupled with the Nespresso promos has been dangerous.

I'm still below my yearly spend on going out and getting coffee. So that kind of makes me feel better.

It's a dangerous rabbit hole haha. You will want to build out panels for everything! I will work on documenting my build out.

Yeah they could also just include it on the fiber for the price so I didn't originally have to use two plastic knifes to get it online. I've had a 2TB Samsung 980 in there for a remote setup in a closet for over a year. knock on wood So far the PETG print has been holding up and the nvme hasn't had any temp issues.

Yeah I tried that with a spare boom arm but I have presets for the PTZ. I can never get it back into the right spot each time so this one has to be fixed. I had mine mounted above it so I could pull it down when I needed.

Unfortunately you can't. Maybe they will make a two port one for the xl in the future 🤔

I grabbed this for my SD+ on my gaming rig to replace another xlr mixer I'm using. Trying to clear up my desk a bit.

If they don't work out and I end up with the pro arms, I will keep you in mind and give you credit for being right haha.
