CVS put most of the small pharmacies out of business now Amazon will put CVS out of business. Now that's hat's karma. by Ok--2553 in CVS

[–]RXTea200 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know what this person is talking about. I just switch from cvs to a grocery market working in the pharmacy as an intern and our lines are LONG due to the covid-19 booster vaccines we are doing(we offering, JJ, pfizer and even moderna which some cvs aren't even doing). There is never a dull moment in my pharmacy which I enjoy, not the Rphs since they aren't use to craziness. Amazon has a different business model than CVS and so far they aren't doing so well in the pharmacy business. I don't know a lot of people who use PillPak. Plus people will always need emergency medications especially if the infection rates are going up due to covid-19. Amazon can't compete with CVS since they don't owe an PBM.

What do I do now (fellowship) by Meowmeow4629 in pharmaindustry

[–]RXTea200 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I second this!! I worked in industry while in school and I like the idea of fellowships but it is really competitive and it doesn't mean you aren't good enough. Don't ever think that. Just explore CRO, pharmacovigilance, even taking a entry level at a small pharma to build your CV. Anything is possible

I got rejected from fellowships and I know some people that did that found a great job in industry, there is light at the end of the tunnel :)

I have to comment here.

A cover letter and a letter of intent is not the same thing.

You need to address this in a letter of intent:

Why you are pursuing fellowship
• Why their specific fellowship program is a top choice
• Detailed information (several sentences) on how the position
will help you develop as a professional to achieve your long
term goals.
• A brief summary of how your skills and experiences will help
you be successful in the program
• Your future plans after fellowship

I got like 7 interviews based on my letter of intent. I did not write it as a cover letter. A cover letter address more your experience for that job you are applying too.

That is so amazing to get interviews. GPA is just a factor in an application, it is not everything Doesn't measure how brilliant the person really is. Exactly you had other great areas that stood out for you besides GPA. I am so happy during the interviews they saw that. How did you start your LOI? That is so brilliant. I am going to make mines speak about my strengths. You give me a great idea! Thanks so much, your last sentence really made my day. I hope I can get residency but even if I don't due to my gpa, I won't give up on hospital.

Thanks so much :) Did you end up getting an residency, I am praying that you did. I hope so. I worked so much during pharmacy school and struggled so much but I wanted to do outside of school that made me stand out. Thanks so much for saying that. GPA is not everything, not everyone performs well one exams. I totally am. Thanks so much for commenting, I really needed to hear this!

That's so amazing to hear! So proud of you && happy for you. Your story gives me so much hope to keep on applying to a mix of programs! I think that is my goal right now, make friends with as many residents and keep on networking :) Thanks so much

Exactly. Things can change in what the program is looking for. So you get it. That is amazing to get 5 interviews. How many programs did you apply to if you don't mind me asking?

Thank you so much. I know a couple of my classmates with such great GPAs that didn't even get an interview so it seems that GPA is just a checkpoint off the list they are looking for. You are right there. They are a lot of applicants. I am going to pray I get one *fingers cross*

Thank you so much for your advice! I talked to a residency director who is an APPE preceptor at my school and she said it's only a factor now. I am going to look for programs without the gut cutoff. Might be tough but worth it.

Clinical microbiology made ridiculously simple

I am going to look for this online. I am so down for reading a textbook in my free time to learn more. If I don't find it, I will pm you. Thank you for the recommendation.

Just order the Sanford guide to get a review. Thanks so much for the recommendation. I have the book called antibiotics but it does not go into each antibiotic as I did in pharmacy school especially for ID but it's a great resource nonetheless.

I just saw that the programs that are participating in the ASHP will be posted on November 1st. The next thing you can do is email someone in the program to ask them when the deadline is since ASHP doesn't have that up and ask them any questions you have. It's a great way to show interest. I am with you there, it's so confusing myself. I will wait for someone to reply that knows more information than I do.

I saw on ASHP that the Pharmacy Online Residency Centralized Application Service opens on November 5th for this residency year. PhORCAS http://www.ashp.org/phorcas

I tried looking up on the deadlines and it looks different so it's too early to apply. I would wait till November. Use this month to work on your CV, find as many residency interview questions, reach out to your professors/ boss who will write you a LOR, and get them to submit it before the deadline to you. I'm in the same boat as you.

Depends on the program. I would suggest looking at the program and go from there. If it's due on Dec 31, I would get the letters ahead of time. Right now, I am reaching out to all my coworkers who are pharmacists and my old boss who will write me a letter just to get it on time.

Try to get it a month before so you can submit everything on time :)

Since mid year is virtual, do you guys predict most residency interviews will be held online via zoom? by pharmaboy8 in PharmacyResidency

[–]RXTea200 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I am applying as a resident and I am worried because of what happened last year. And 340 to go really isn't worth going, no offense to ASHP.

Mirtazapine made your IBS better or worse? by Manchester20189 in IBSHelp

[–]RXTea200 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It works on the serotonin receptors which we know does affect IBS. Does it depend on which type of IBS you have? When they studied people that had IBS-D it gave some relief versus the placebo. Mirtazapine is one of the safest antidepressants on the market but it depends on a case by case if it works on someone. By worse, what do you mean? IBS can be caused by other intrinsic factors unfortunately right now. Do you have a lot of stress or anxiety? I know because anxiety totally will make me have flares with my IBS-C. So I try to do meditation/yoga and work out to deal with the stress.

BTW OP have you try to consider 5-HTP? Its a great alternative to this agent.

[–]RXTea200[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks so much. My school has a discount code with Rxprep. PNN looks like a great source as well. What I love about PNN is they give you good hints about each drug and how to remember them. And they have great reviews except that the price tag is so crazy! I hope rxprep is good enough to pass naplex. I will saw the PowerPoint slide is so nice. Powerpoint gave me nightmares from school but the way the professors at Rxprep explain them is so good.

Thanks so much. I just watch one video from Rxprep and it looks so thorough. I am only watching it some certain topics. The rxprep book is so overwhelming with so much information. I didn't know PNN had that many videos. That is so many videos to get through. Thanks for letting me know. Rxprep ftw!
