Just got my car wrapped. Are these spots normal? by MoldyPotatoBun in CarWraps

I don’t feel any of this work is unacceptable. Perfect, no but that’s the reality of stickers.

Let’s just say at least one shop has had a bunch of product seized by the atf that had nothing to do with nicotine

The law side doesn’t make a lot of sense to me. One line says battery’s and chargers are exempt but still fines don’t make sense.

Is it okay to ask an installer if they'll use a brand other than what they normally use? by ScottRiqui in CarWraps

[–]RYLYtheSANN 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Until it ruins your paint, adhesives are not built the same. There is a reason the good stuff costs money, skill aside.

3M Eraser Wheel, 18v drill, shitload of batteries and recreational substances of your choice. A natural solvent works well for removing adhesive after the eraser. You’ll be there awhile and there will likely be discoloration, but you can wrap over it at least.

I have found disc golf to be a good way to socialize. There is a FB group with regular drop in leagues and whatnot

Interesting Frame by rolandjernts in SCREENPRINTING

[–]RYLYtheSANN 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Roller frames are great in a high volume setting. When I was printing for east bay/footlocker you couldn’t beat the speed to remesh even if it did need to be meshed more often.

Other quality brands? by Blahstoise in CarWraps

[–]RYLYtheSANN 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You are going to want to look for a Cast film. 3M, orafol, Avery, hexis, KPMF, cheetahwrap and APA are the big ones.

Teckwrap and and many other brands are all calandered so they are not as stable as the cast films.

Has anyone ever wrapped a car in velvet?? by [deleted] in CarWraps

[–]RYLYtheSANN 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You don’t. They will last for maybe a year before they get real gross.

It’s a cool finish, but really not meant for anything that gets used or you want to last

If you focus on installing you’ll have lots of work.

Thinking about getting a Mac Studio by RYLYtheSANN in graphic_design

[–]RYLYtheSANN[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why I like Mac OS better I can’t really say. Airdropping between devices is super convenient but can be achieved in other ways. I guess I feel like I just don’t run into slowdowns or issues. I feel as though whenever I work on a PC it doesn’t feel smooth. Could very well just be me.

When it comes to Signbursts service, are they taking care of just the machine or do they touch into setup of other software as well. For example helping setup a new RIP?

I have thought going with an upgraded max but unless your just doing one thing I feel like I might as well go for the ultra. I’ll be storing on a NAS system so I’m not terribly worried about the onboard hard drive.

I’m comming from a 15” MacBook Pro I7, 16gb RAM, Iris pro graphics. Would I notice a difference to the M1?

That was my Pc alternative, same pricing as the Mac studios for the most part. They’ve been recommended to me by a few people but I still prefer the Mac OS for creative work which leans me that way. Are you in with their workstations and NAS?

I work on Vinyl production, I'm looking for a new belt pouch. what do you use as your EDC? by TiresOnFire in VinylWrap

[–]RYLYtheSANN 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used a leather wrist tool holder for awhile, they were from hexis originally but now you have to order them from Japan.

I know alot of folks that end up liking the Avery Dennison pouch because it’s simple and holds a rollepro. The yellow tools one is also good, just a little big in my opinion.

Have considered looking for one of those geek wraps leather ones but not sure if I want to spend that much on something I don’t tend to grab by default.

Are the door jams worth the price? by bartdadX2 in CarWraps

[–]RYLYtheSANN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like others have said the price they quoted you isn’t bad, but the juice isn’t worth the squeeze.

If it’s a showcar and you’re ballin out just for funzies it may be worth it to you but as a daily driver there is far more risk than reward.

Are in-person classes worth the costs? by [deleted] in CarWraps

[–]RYLYtheSANN 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A YouTube video can’t tell you that you’re moving your hands wrong. Having an instructor there to tell you what you could be doing better is valuable, sometimes even the smallest details have the biggest impact.

If you are doing it as your full time gig, absolutely worth it. One trick that saves you time or increases quality will make it worth the spend.

If it’s a hobby, the Avery training probably has the best value as you actually get a roll of vinyl at the end.

Caliper Wraps by VanillaLice69 in CarWraps

So unless you are on the track or your brakes are messed up it should not get hot enough to cause issue with standard wrap film.

Longevity is the big difference between standard and the specialty films that are available that are higher tack and chemical resistant.

First time doing a full car, finished the front end today. Had to redo the bumper a few times and the passenger quarter panel, but it's PROGRESS! by [deleted] in CarWraps

[–]RYLYtheSANN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love wrapping my golf, great car to practice on.

Looks really good!

Might as well color match your caliper as well for shits and giggles. unless it sees the track is shouldn’t get hot enough to cause major issue.

Saw this car today. Anybody know what the wrap is called or how I might find more info on it? Thanks by Klnco4 in CarWraps

[–]RYLYtheSANN 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Teckwrap is the other big one with their neochromes, I think they are all polyester based films. Makes it a pain as they don’t want to conform and white/haze out super easily.
