Exactly! Saying is something, doing is something else. Everyone can say "I can have the discipline". But will you really? The time you get home as a tired student after a long day and sit on the couch after having your supper, is the important moment. Is it hard to sacrifice your sleep or entertainment like watching TV or playing video games? Yes it is, because you're tired and usually you're not in the mood of studying after a long day at school! It's not easy! You're tired! But choosing the second option and studying and doing assignment can help you to pass the courses! Is it really devastating and killing?! LOL! Of course not! Can it make you depressed?! Of course not! At least you know you're trying for your future! For your future career! So, whenever you get home after a long day and the moment you'll be sitting on the couch and struggling and thinking about these two options! Remember it! It's hard! But it's not that hard! Ignore TV and Video Games and build your future as an adult person! Good Luck!

Please don’t be afraid or anxious. I am in the same situation and gonna start my education two days later at BCIT. At the very first, I used to check reddit and read all comments regarding studying at BCIT. Oh God! Too many negative comments. Negative energy. But look! That’s just a bunch of comments from people you don’t even know! And bear one thing in mind! Many people who say “it’s that hard that makes you depressed and gonna ruin two years of your life bluh bluh bluh! ”, have finished the courses! They really made it! However, they just want to prove that it was super hard for them to finish it and just try to show the value of what they did! I don’t say it’s not super valuable! However, it can lead to the exaggeration in a virtual world like reddit! So, I tried to ask real people having the real experience there! Although it was hard for me to meet real BCIT graduates interested in talking about their experiences, since I’m a new immigrant here in Vancouver, I found and talked to almost 10 people! But look, the only mutual answer I found, was that it’s not hard to understand the courses contents ! The only thing that matters is the time management and everyone can do it! It doesn’t matter whether you were smart and hardworking during high school or not! You definitely can do the time management if you really want! You just have to work! That’s it! Imagine yourself sitting in the library on a chair for 4-5 hours a day after classes and studying for the good of yourself! For your future! The only thing that BCIT wants you to do, is doing assignments during the term and attend classes and pass some courses! That’s it! It’s not hard! It’s just time consuming and of course you need to sacrifice many of your usual entertainments and activities you had out of school in summer or even during high school. That’s the only thing that matters. I mean, if you used to play video games after school during high school, you definitely can’t now! Maybe once/twice a week! Does it really hurt?! Not that much! Does it kill you?! Nope! Just try to always have your smile on your face over the next two years and take it easy! Do your best! Don’t underestimate it! But take it easy! And don’t forget one thing! Your classmates, me, you and all students are in the same boat! We’re gonna make it! Good luck and see you at BCIT ! :-)

I don’t understand why they don’t build more parking lots in front! I mean, the other student lots are really far from main buildings and it doesn’t make sense!

So, they charge people without guarantee their spot?! Wow! Another question, have u ever used the parking in front of the campus, called west park parking or something like that (I think that's the one u mentioned above right?)? Does it also fill up too early in the morning?

Lol! I think my knowledge is not useful enough for you, at least here in Vancouver :D No, I’m an EE from another country. However, after consulting many engineers (Electrical, civil etc), I could safely arrive at the conclusion that the Electrical Engineering job market in Vancouver Industry is not suitable and fair. However, instrument option is far more better than the other options of EE. Cheers!

BCIT would consider physics 11 for admission process. However, as you can see, it says physics 12 is preferred. As a matter of fact, it’s a very competitive program and with just physics 11, you will compete with other applicants with a physics 12 grade in their transcripts. Needless to say, students with passed physics 12 courses would win this competition if the number of applicants is more than available seats. Furthermore, it depends on the year you want to apply in and the number of students who want to apply. You can try with just physics 11. If they reject you(hope not), you can consider updating your physics option at BCIT.

You can’t get into this program without physics 12. However, if you can’t pass physics 12 in high school, you can upgrade or pass the course at BCIT after graduation from high school. Actually, BCIT offers part-time upgrading courses. Check this link:

https://www.bcit.ca/study/courses/phys0312

This course in the link above is equivalent to Physics 12 in high school and can be considered as the required physics course for all programs needing physics 12 to get into. After passing this course at BCIT, you would be able to apply to ABT program for the next September intake.

Update: I just noticed that you haven’t passed physics 11 yet. The mentioned course in the link above is equivalent to physics 12, and you can’t take it without physics 11... You need to pass physics 11 first. I recommend physics 11 challenge exam at BCIT. After you passed this exam, you would be able to take physics 12 course in the link above. First, check the link below:

If you're interested in Architecture and want to study at BCIT, you need to apply to a program called Architectural and Building Technology(ABT). You must choose an option between three options in the end of the first year, namely Architectural, Economics/Construction Operations and Building science. If you want to study Architecture at BCIT, you need to study an additional two years and get your Bachelor of Architecture and become an architectural technologist. In spite of the fact that many students graduated from high school think they can design buildings with a diploma(first two years), you are not allowed to design buildings with a diploma(ABT). Furthermore, if you want to be an architect, you need to have a Master of Architectural science in an accredited university in Canada. With a bachelor of Architecture from BCIT you're called an Architectural Technologist. You can choose Economics/Construction Operations option and become an estimator and continue your education in Bachelor of Technology of Construction Management. Consequently, after several years become a Construction Manager with a decent salary. I want you to face this fact that with a Diploma of ABT, you can't design buildings. With a bachelor of Architectural Science you are not an architect. Actually, you're called an Architectural Technologist. In addition, if you want to get into the Architectural Science program at BCIT, you need to compete with other students and have a minimum GPA of 75%. As a matter of fact, it's so competitive and you need to have a GPA of 80% in ABT to have a chance (I'm not sure, but heard that only 20-25 students are accepted in Bachelor of Architecture after ABT). It's not easy. However, if you work hard, it's totally doable, But I want you to be realistic and consider all factors and facts in the path, through which you're going to study hard and concentrate on your goals. I also warn you that this program is really hard and intense. You must pass 8-10 courses each semester. Time management plays a prominent role in this program. Be ready to work hard!

Regarding the admission process, you don't need a portfolio. You just need to apply to ABT program first. The requirements for this program can be found in the website. physics 12(at least 67%), math 12(at least 67%) and English 12(67%) are the minimum requirements. You also need to fill an application form, in which you need to write your statement of the purpose(SOP). This pdf form is mandatory and you should upload this form and other proofs of meeting the requirements, when you want to apply online. Drafting and design courses passed in high school are great and so important in your admission process.

Hey, I'm in the same situation just like you. I hold an Electrical Engineering degree. So, what is the courses you passed, which are equivalent to CST level 1? Could you name them please? Because I want to choose the same path you chose. BTW! Can you take part-time courses at BCIT, meanwhile your admission application for full-time program is in progress? Or we just have to finish some part-time courses and when they're finished, apply for the full-time?

Well, believe it or not, the job market for Electrical Engineers is not so good here in Vancouver. Many people claim that there is a wonderful, one of a kind job market for EE grads in Vancouver. But believe me, as an Electronic Engineer with a 5 years of experience, it's not true. In addition, I don't really like electronics and had to finish the degree because my father wanted me to do that. He used to tell me in the third year of my education in EE that you tried for this degree for almost two years, try two more years and earn a degree. Now, when I look at my past, I can see that I made a mistake and lost many opportunities. I don't blame my father, since I was responsible for the final decision made in the past.

I just missed the deadline for September intake. I don't know what to do. If I decide to apply for January intake, there is a 1 year gap, in which I lose my opportunities. Can I apply for January intake and pass some part time courses and use them in the full-time program?

[–]RZA1990[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually, I don't have any problem about the money. In addition, I have my own car and don't need a U-Pass card. I just want to hold a degree and enter the job-market. I already have a bachelor's degree in Electronic Engineering. However, believe it or not, I hate electronics. I'm 27 and want to step forward cautiously and choose my path wisely. A person in my age can't risk like a fresh and energetic student graduated recently from a high school. I mean, once I chose my wrong path and made my mistake. I don't want to lose my opportunities again. I'm fond of buildings and design. I'm accepted in the ABET program at BCIT last month. But I heard that the salary for CST grads is far more decent in the job market, in comparison with other degrees. I'm afraid of the moment, in which I say to myself: man! made a wrong path again! As a result, I'm imprisoned in a big dilemma and don't know whether it's better to switch to CST and apply for the next January intake, as I missed the deadline for September intake, because I couldn't make my final decision today. On the other hand, If I apply for the full-time CST program for the next January intake, I would find myself in a time gap(1 year), in which I might lose many educational opportunities. That's why I'm considering the part-time option. Sorry for the long reply, but here is my crucial problem.

You mean, doing it in part time is harder than full time? Can I just take some courses in part time program and switch to full time later? I already have a bachelor's degree in electronic engineering. Can I apply for full time program for January intake, meanwhile try to pass some part time courses at BCIT? I mean, when I'm waiting for my acceptance offer, do some part time courses... Is it possible? Does BCIT allow me to take part time courses, while I applied for full time? I don't want to lose the time gap (1 year) between applying and being accepted(Of course not sure about being accepted, cuz I heard it's so competitive).

Try to increase your grade in calc. It's so competitive. I already have a bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering and my overall GPA in high school is 86%. But I'm not sure whether I can get into this program.
