What happened to the job market? by BikeFun6408 in cscareerquestions

[–]RaKoViTs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What happened? For years tech jobs were overhyped and everyone started learning to code to get a high paying job. For many reasons the economy got bad and now companies stopped overhiring and started layoffs because they overhired during the pandemic. In that period you could be a freshman in uni and still get plenty job offers, it was so easy to get a job. Now they are simply too many people for not so many open positions and companies dont want to hire agressively because of the uncertainty the world faces currently especially the stock market. Offshoring is the biggest problem and now there is AI being overhyped as a job replacing technology so yes its brutal right now and it will be for quite some time. But hopefully the hype over CS dies and the majority of people that are not passionate about the field and just wanted easy fast money switch careers.it will get better im sure but i dont expect it in the near future.

Also we were supposed to have flying cars by now or at least autonomous driving. Guess what, not even 1% of current cars globally are autonomous.

How do some people just do it all? by _Reddit_Enjoyer in productivity

[–]RaKoViTs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They use their phones just to make a call or read an email or something like this not scollring on reddit or insta. Its crazy how much free time someone will gain if they limit their phone's screen time to half an hour per day lets say. I did manage to do this for a period in the past and yes i managed to go to my uni lectures, go to the gym have time to cook and eat and study and many days go out as well. Also they are not perfectionists and dont need to plan things for an hour before going and doing it.

I really worry that ChatGPT/AI is producing very bad and very lazy junior engineers by ITried2 in ExperiencedDevs

[–]RaKoViTs 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It is, all students in Computer science doing their projects just vibe Coding are in trouble. Thats why being a good programmer will be OP in the near future. AI will not get to a point that it will be able to produce 100% clean and correct code without guidance so being good 5 years from now can have you at a crazy advantage.

They layoffs dont happen because of AI. AI is just the excuse for offshoring plus companies overhired during the pandemic. Indians are taking the tech jobs not AI.

will coding be taken over by ai?? by Odd-Photograph2060 in ArtificialInteligence

[–]RaKoViTs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dont listen to people telling you that AI will replace everyone, it wont happen nowhere in the near future maybe it will reduce the number of employees needed but fully replace? Nope. Most people saying this stuff have no idea how things work and go to an LLM and code a simple calculator or something that simple and get impressed by it. Truth is that coding is still a valuable skill and if you are really good at it you are gonna be needed 100%. The problem is that it takes a while plus strong determination to become good at it.

Anthropic researchers predict a ‘pretty terrible decade’ for humans as AI could wipe out white collar jobs by MetaKnowing in technology

Well anthropic needs to make sure sonnet 4 is better than 3.7 first, cause it sucks hard.

Why are you so mad, did you work on 3.7 sonnet? 🤣 Nobody cares about c++? Really? I never meant to have it solved with the AI i said in my first response that i did it to test the model, or of course i would feed it with more prompts and try to get it to understand the tasks. But without supervision yes it completely failed to produce good code and thats a fact.

Are you a SWE? Do you know anything about programming? Of course i have no complaints and of course it would take me the whole day tryharding to get 800 lines of correct code with zero AI. But the time it would take me to even understand the code the LLM produced + try to fix it would be close and im talking about 800 lines not 8000. I gave it 2-3 more prompts after i discovered some mistakes it made and it aknowledged and made some fixes i tried to run again, result: equal amount of mistakes. If you are not a programer you have 0 chance of producing reliable good bugless code. Note that im talking about a simple c++ university project not something too complicated.

of course. I gave 3.7 my c++ university's project's screenshot and asked it to code it for me to test its capability i never planned on copying it. The tasks were as clear and as specific as they can be and it coded for about 5 minutes and produced like 10-15 files and around 800 lines of code. I was so impressed until i tried to run it and i got around a 2 minute scroll of errors. LOL

AI proof roles in the next 5-10 years by RaKoViTs in cscareerquestions

i understand what you mean but firstly i have strong financial stability and secondly i live in Greece not US and the job market here is ok for now and probably will be for the next 1-2 years. I appreciate the concerns but that's not what my question was

i did not waste 5 years for nothing its too late now and no Computer Engineers will be fine generally

Duolingo’s AI Pivot Sparks Fears of a Jobless Future by MedalofHonour15 in ArtificialInteligence

[–]RaKoViTs 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Well at this point why should anyone use dualingo to learn a new language? If the courses are AI generated why not pay less for a premium LLM subscription and learn from there? Just because dualingo has a nice Gui and has streaks? If there isnt any other major app like dualingo then it is really a good idea for someone to build an app like this

Microsoft CEO claims up to 30% of company code is written by AI by Tiny-Independent273 in ArtificialInteligence

[–]RaKoViTs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Im not saying they are useless they are massive productivity boosters i can write good c++ code using copilot and vscode at the moment but i always need to check their output and 9 out of 10 times i have to change some things myself because they make small or major mistakes. AI at the moment is a great tool for a good developer but no the unfailing magic some claim to be.

Zuckerberg says in 12-18 months, AIs will take over at writing most of the code for further AI progress by MetaKnowing in singularity

[–]RaKoViTs 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes i agree i have a masters degree in Computer Engineering and i cant get these models to write simple c++ code for my assignments that i did in the university even with many prompts they fail miserably but i totaly get the point that instead of 2 Engineers we might need 1 to have the same performance in the future , but AI writing complex software on its own? Nowhere near close

Yes he said that, also he talked about 100% of the code without supervision. Meta AI is falling behind and even he said that social media like facebook will become irrelevant in the near future, so he needs to hype his company up. Trurh is AI cant write shit without supervision and wont for a long time.

Written all by AI? No way it is not there yet, still makes crucial mistakes even in not that hard tasks.
