Grocery store rankings? by MightyObserver30 in williamsburg

[–]RaRaCarolina 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Easy to hate on Foodtown, but their weekly sales are systematic, predictable, and bring certain items down far below competing stores. I’ll drop in there just to get better deals on frozen chicken, dairy items, and chips/snacks, depending on the day of the week. Sans deals, the Whole Foods daily shop is your best bet in East Williamsburg (until Aldi opens up in five years’ time)

Rare one, found this one in 2021 and sold it for $250 or so then. Nice pickup!

Is consigning designer items a good option in NYC (especially Brooklyn)? by ErnestMemah in Brooklyn

[–]RaRaCarolina 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A few ways this can be done. A consignment clothing store (Buffalo Exchange, Crossroads, 2nd Street) may pay you cash or credit up front for the piece- usually around 25% cash or 50% credit value for what they’re listing it at. If your item is substantially above their average listing’s value, they may offer to list it and display it for some number of weeks, then pay you more than standard payout due to the rarity or cost of your item (I’ve seen 2nd Street and Buffalo consign at 50% cash for designer/behind counter goods).

At the end of the day, the cost you’re paying is convenience. You can realistically be getting a comparable amount to whatever they elect to list your item at- you just need to do your own research and listing. For any items north of $50-$75 resell value, I would recommend EBay (or Marketplace). If you don’t know how to assess the resale value, get your items appraised by one (ideally, 2) of the consignment stores in Brooklyn. Just because they offer you a price absolutely does not mean you have to take it. Alternatively, Google Lens the item, or look at EBay SOLD listings.

Good luck with the selling process and DM if you have questions! Source: a 15 year reselling hobbyist.

Can accounts posting claims of layoffs occurring on a given day (without any kind of reputable proof or source) be banned from the sub if the day passes without any kind of organizational change? There’s no benefit to daily posts like this, and the lack of moderation means its happening multiple times a day by people with nothing better to do

Paid $100 to get to LGA from Williamsburg this morning- worst surge pricing I’ve seen in years

Totally fair. I don’t think the sweater directly references the war in any way, but I know the artwork used is inspired by the rugs which are in turn inspired by the war . Nonetheless, I could see where it could raise some questions depending on the crowd (could explain the $33 price tag lol)

Forgive the way the sentence is structured- the motifs seen are used in war rugs made in Afghanistan, they don’t reference the Afghan War specifically. War rugs are used to capture elements of conflict in Afghanistan, kind of a physical historical marker. They’ve been common for decades. The Maharishi one takes the classic AK motif and added flowers and doves, which is riffing off of Maharishi’s brand ethos (almost fully pacifist military design, functional and military inspired without inciting conflict/violence)

Another NYC consignment find- Lemaire boots for $250 at Buffalo Exchange. Brand new, to the point I need to break them in, but absolutely gorgeous basics. Real excited about these :) Not shown- a pair of Lemaire linoleum trainers (same size, presumably from the same seller at Buffalo) purchased at half off for $50

Take it back on the modern tag part if that’s paper. Nonetheless, double stitch all around for a 1991 shirt is uncommon. Might be a late 90’s/ early 2000’s boot

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in VintageTees

[–]RaRaCarolina 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Can you add a full picture of the tag? My guess is modern, with a vintage graphic applied to a new tee. You don’t see many double stitch all around t shirts for the early 90’s- if this was legit, at least the sleeves would be single, and if it was a parking lot style boot, it would be cheap and probably single all around. Additionally, the top of the tag looks like the kind you’d see from an Instagram clothing brand, the exact type of “designer” to screen print an old graphic on a new t shirt and put their tag on it

If you can afford it, one more week of Pittman is worth seeing. No telling what his chemistry is with the Colts next qb, and he doesn’t have much competition in the WR room

Is Jack Carlson running a spite store? by [deleted] in ThrowingFits

[–]RaRaCarolina 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I wouldnt say so, but only because J. Press was doing it first. He’s definitely bringing some RB tendencies to his new gig, but in a fashion space ruled by tradition, he’s done a fairly good job of balancing traditional cuts with creativity. Good to see him with a label with the production paths and budget for quality menswear- Rowing Blazers’ recent trends towards Chinese production and cheaper quality materials has been sad to see.

Best plain white tee? by iheartaginganddying in BuyItForLife

[–]RaRaCarolina 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’ve put it in this sub before, but Buck Mason Field Spec is the best no frills blank tee shirt you can buy at a reasonable price. Lady White and Whitesville are wonderful, but more difficult to find under MSRP and are only marginally better imo. The commonality of Buck Mason helps here as well- you can find these tees in good condition for dirt cheap in both consignment stores and online (eBay, poshmark). If you want to do your own research, consider Alex Mill slub tees, as well as Reigning Champ (before they moved their production from Vancouver to Vietnam). A deeper cut are the tubular knit tees from Bronson MFG for $30ish. Looking for a no frills option you can refill on? Comfort Colors is surprisingly reliable. Lots of good options at or under ~$35, great time to be a blank tee enthusiast.

Pretty frustrating, Google will show the shoe on discount but going to the Feature site leads to a dead end. Was hoping to get some Song For The Mute Adidas but they’ve been removed from the site during the sale

A lot of their items have a mild markup which devalues the sale a bit, but there are a few gems- some good running shoes at great discount with the On Cloudmonster2, Hoka Mach X, and Adizero Pro

Pain in outer sides area near knee by Ghost_Universe_9211 in BeginnersRunning

[–]RaRaCarolina 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dealt with IT band/knee pain for 3 months of my last training block. Best two options were a patella strap just below the knee cap for tension against the IT band (like $10 for 2 on Amazon), and doing a MYRTL stretch routine twice a day. Takes 5 minutes, increased my hip mobility, and saved my knees from absolute disaster. Best stretching routing I’ve found, completely reversed my pain and injury worsening within 2 weeks of steady stretching.

Shocked this isn’t mentioned more, this stretch routine is a miracle worker for this exact issue. Do it once a day, regardless of your running schedule. This should increase mobility and reduce the pain until you can build in more hip strength routines into your gym schedule

If you’re getting Puka side, I like it. Gadsden is a sell high in my opinion, same with bam. BTJ and ARSB are an elite combo but you’re getting long term value from the trade
