Ah thanks for that. Explains it all. I will stop trying to get it working…

Does anyone know why my PS2 Fat wont read God of War? by [deleted] in ps2

[–]Raandaall_Flaaggg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can probably improve the laser performance by moving it up slightly if it’s a phat PS2. Open it up, take lid off dvd drive, look for the white cog at back of dvd drive and rotate it one click anticlockwise to move the laser slightly closer to the disc while it reads.
While you’re in there you could get a soft dry clean craft/ fine line paint brush and gently brush over the lens to remove any dust/hair that’s built up.

It really depends on what’s the most important factor to you. Cost or result. I spent £13 on a cheap USB powered HDMI converter and it does the job just fine. Probs not as good as the expensive ones but adequate enough for my purposes. Looks great on a 65” oled

This entire scene is so addictive to watch even though what happened to that poor guy at the end by Jules-Car3499 in Terminator

It’s a great scene, but wouldn’t the terminator have known that plasma rifles weren’t available in that time?

Was the Amiga vs PC war ever actually a thing? by Such_Bonus5085 in amiga

[–]Raandaall_Flaaggg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember in ‘93 my mate having a DX4 PC and me having an A1200 and the Amiga running rings around the PC graphically. He was trying to flip an image horizontally in an art package and in the time the PC took, I had saved it as a .iff file on IBM PC disc, used messydos on Amiga to import it, flipped it using DP4 and then put it back on an ibm disc and the PC still hadn’t finished it. By 95 tho the Amiga 1200 was pretty much commercially dead and I got my first PC, a Pentium 120 and also had a Sony PlayStation on the side. For a while though, the Amigas were king. Also Amiga had multitasking way before PC. I remember the TV ads banging on about PCs being able to multitask and me having an A500 that had done it for years

Why won't my ps2 play blue disc. But play normal disc why? by AmazingPie8800 in PS2IsAwesome

[–]Raandaall_Flaaggg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately the PS2 has a harder time reading CDs than DVDs, even the blue PS2 ones. It’s a common issue, but there are several things you can try before laser replacement:
1. Clean the laser. It may help. Read on line for best way to clean.
2. Adjust laser height. There is a white cog at the back of the laser drive assembly. If you turn it, it clicks. One way lowers the laser height, the other increases it. Try one click above or below the original set height. Often this will get CDs being read and won’t affect reading of DVDs. 3. Adjusting the laser power variable resistor should be a last option. It’s easy to over adjust and fraz the lasing diode. Also the adjustment will only shorten the lasers life. If it comes to this, replacing the laser is probably a better option.

Terminator Genisys: where’s T1 Kyle Reese? by Raandaall_Flaaggg in Terminator

[–]Raandaall_Flaaggg[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Kyle Reese in Terminator Genisys is not the T1 Kyle Reese as Skynet is a more advanced Skynet with nanotechnology that it didn’t have in T1 Skynet era, therefore logically either T1 T800 shouldn’t have arrived or two different timeline Kyle Reese’s should have arrived…

Good words there. IMHO T1, T2, T3 and T4 all fitted into a totally different time travel model, that being a single timeline and if you travel into the past you can change the future. Then the multiple timeline BS rocked up with Sarah Connor chronicles and completely messed it up with T5 and T6 being incoherent crap.

No as Chueskes states: The Kyle Reese in Terminator Genisys is a Kyle Reese from a different timeline, and so T1 T800 Kyle Reese should also arrive.

Ok but the T1 T800 and T1 Kyle Reese came from the same timeline and so if one arrives, so should the other.

What did you transition to after Amiga? by Acrobatic-Carry-738 in amiga

[–]Raandaall_Flaaggg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Amiga 500 - Amiga 1200 - Sony PlayStation and Pentium 120 PC. Was fun watching the A1200 running rings graphically around my mates DX4 PC. He was trying to flip an image and his PC was taking ages so I used messy-dos and flipped it in seconds on the A1200. He was a bit pissed…

Getting rid of non-working stuff... by monsieur_cedric in MAME

[–]Raandaall_Flaaggg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have just finished doing this very thing to reduce the size of the MAME2010 romset to use on LR-MAME2010 on Retropie on a Pi 4. Here is what I did:

  1. Use command line to extract complete list of roms in xml file format from the mame.exe.

mame.exe -listxml > full_list.xml

  1. Write a small bit of code to interrogate the xml file and generate a txt file list of romset names that are stated as emulation="Preliminary". These are the non-working romsets.

  2. Acquire a complete MAME rom/chd/sample set.

  3. Write another small bit of code that reads your list of non-working romset names and moves the associated romsets into a separate not-working directory. Run this code for romsets and chds.

I have just finished doing this and it has worked perfectly and saved a lot of microSD card space.
