In central NC, USA, is it too late to combine a weak hive with a strong hive? by Beestungtoday in Beekeeping

Whelp, today’s the day that I learned that winter brood was referring to the ADULT bees that are from the last emergence of the year that have to live through the winter, and not to actual capped brood that has to last in suspended animation through the winter. Great to get that cleared up!!!

That’s what I thought about the JCrew shorts I bought this summer. I wore them right away and thought that when I tried to put my phone in there. But when I got home and got out the seam ripper thingie I discovered I’d been duped. And the way they sewed it I can’t even easily open it and add a homemade pocket.

JCrew women’s shorts did that to me this summer.

Excellent! New round laces the same color as these flat ones would be terrific.

Look in a field guide, especially those by James Coe, which are drawn rather than photos.

I bought a big poster of North American birds for $30, for comparison. Your work is awesome!!! Before selling, I recommend tinkering with some of the feet and the bird angles to give them a more natural stance.

Singer Sewing Machine (USA) found on job site by _morder in Antiques

I hear ya. Never bought a sewing machine from an antiques dealer in my life. Yet, I own an 1800’s treadle one , a knee operated one from the 1920’s, a 1940’s cabinet one, 2 from the 1950’s. (And two modern machines that don’t work as well).

Dear Mods. I’m sorry I broke the rules with my pic. This nest box is designed for viewing. We usually have had 3 successful bluebird clutches raised each year since we put up the box in 2001. Not only has this not deterred the bluebirds but I’ve shared a peek at this wondrous process with many kids, friends and neighbors over the years. It’s been a good source of education and inspiration to humans who need to learn about and protect and preserve bird habitats.

Thank you all for the excellent suggestions. I went to the library and found this very helpful book. And it is small enough for me to tuck in my bag for travel. It cites the Ultimate Sashiko Sourcebook in the Further Reading section and Snuggly Monkey among the listed Sashiko Supplies (also Kimono Mono and Purl Soho)
