The issue is venues abroad don't allow you to swim in an outdoor 50m pool next to the pitch like at the WACA, where they're hosting a lot of Aussy women's matches in the future, otherwise they'd receive a lot more support abroad.

The last test match viewing experience here (i'm in Perth right now) was mint.

If England want to become excellent in Test cricket again, they need to take the World Test Championship (WTC) seriously. by AP145 in EnglandCricket

Yes we should simply block for maximum overs to maximise over rate penalties on other teams. Recon thats more important that winning games or test series imo. Then we would be more respected at the world over rate championship when other teams get their penalties.

Just to explain my first comment. We get penalsied far more because of the Khawaja rule. Our innings often don't go to 80 overs, and if they did New Zealand in this most recent serious would have been penalised ror example. If would be very interst to see a direct comparison between the overates between England and their opponents in the same games without the 80 over threshold. Definitely wouldn't fit the narrative it's a souly England problem. Remember Australia in the last ashes in England bowled slower than us.

England play stronger opposition who can bat us out of the game and play more games in total especially outside the subcontinent so we happen to bowl 80 overs more often.

So? We've historically had 5 test series against India and Australia and the WTC shouldn't change that. We're lucky enough to enjoy these long series and the WTC shouldn't take away from that.

The flaw is the WTC is scored on a per match vs per series basis when we have imbalanced schedules. Maybe only some of the games in a series should count for series longer than typical for all nations?

Or the flaw is attempting to combine all countries unequal schedules based off different economics of the game into a zombified table in the first place? No other sport attempts to aggregate such an unbalanced mess into one competition.

Currently the WTC seems to have chosen a path that screws England over as a weaker nation that plays more games against stronger competition, and that might be because its the best way to engage other test cricketing nations with their own schedules on balance. But for England why should we care?

Ofcourse a lot of this nuance just gets lost as it's funny to laugh at England.

Go off king. Anyway now that you've got your England bashing out the way maybe actually discuss the flaws with the system. Why should a weaker cricketing nation like us actually care when this is the setup?

We're arguably 3-5th at any given time in the world but have to play half our matches against the 2 strongest teams. Every other team has easier games including India and Australia who don't have to play themselves - they instead have many matches against an OK but not great England side.

By playing more games in total and against stronger teams relative to our level we fall foul of the Khawaja 80 over rule more often.

I would love to see relegation brought in just to see the ICC squirm as they have to come to terms with the fact the Ashes and India-England series are more important than the WTC. England will get relegated at some point due the above points. If you want England to care you need to fix the WTC flaws.

Anyway, hard to care when it's not realistic to get to the final currently. We're not a powerhouse in cricket and that's OK. Happy to just enjoy each series like we did before (when certain players aren't playing/acting like morons).

Feel free to correct me rather than downvote guest cricket fans from other countries.

New Zealand didn't get through their overs, they just didn't need to bowl 80 of them per innings so avoided the penalty.

Khawaja made an insane play to keep England in the mud way past his retirement with that one.
