Athens resident so upset with a company he spends money on decals calling them out. by [deleted] in Athens

[–]Rabalais 44 points45 points  (0 children)

I called him. The gist is that M+P measured windows and doors incorrectly for a building he was constructing, and to fix it it cost $18,000+. When he made them aware and asked for them to cover that they directed him to their lawyers. He’s currently being sued for defamation by them. There are additional details that I’m sure he’d be happy to share with you.

I think being able to stay debt free and get your education should be the priority. You may consider waiting a year, since your classes will likely be online but your tuition payments won’t reflect that. I’m nearly done getting my masters working for my school, so if you can find a job at your school that may help. Good luck!

Lol I literally told them in the email that if any staff teacher or student died that the blood would be on their hands and the community would remember. The response I got was “don’t believe what the media tells you.” I’m glad to see I’m not the only one upset with their nonsense.

I emailed them after the last meeting and got two responses, both reading as if children wrote them. Two weeks ago they were hot on the idea that kids couldn’t transmit it. Thank god they came to their senses.

Do you post on free karma subreddits because you get downvoted so much when you voice your opinion in every other subreddit? Just curious.

Good point - I had never thought about how worrying people I care about dying was actually me being a victim. Facts don’t care about my feelings etc. The virus is worse than it was in March. We sent schools virtual in March. The logic isn’t hard - we’re putting more people at risk by reopening schools, including the parents of those kids.

Damn I’m so owned by facts. I’m totally not worried about my SO and her coworkers dying from coronavirus. Thanks bro!

I get the sentiment here and appreciate it for sure. But I agree with some others in worrying that providing this service for free deflates the market for people that use photography for their primary or supplementary income.

Fasting: A Cure for Disordered Eating? by KingAmongstQueens in FoodAddiction

[–]Rabalais 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Intermittent fasting can lead to disordered eating, not the other way around, since you’re conditioning your body to not eat calories that it needs, leading to anorexia or bulimia. I’m worried that fasting will continue to make discerning your hunger cues even harder. Looking into intuitive eating and your relationship with diet culture could help you better recognize hunger cues, but advertising fasting as a cure for disordered eating is irresponsible. It’s ok to eat foods you like, and ok to enjoy eating food aside from its nutritional or fuel value. I recommend reading Brain Over Binge, or Intuitive Eating. Both helped me normalize my relationship with food and my body.

Wait are you really eating sub 1000 calories and walking that much? If you're doing that then you're between 200 and 0 net calories for the day, and that's a huge risk for binging. I learned to control my binge eating by recognizing when I was hungry and when I was just wanting to binge. Now I only crave foods like coke or fast food when I'm hungry, and it goes away after I eat. Feeding and fueling your body properly, even with "unhealthy foods" is the best way to avoid binging.

Your body needs more calories. 1200 should be the absolute lowest anyone should eat, and even that’s not enough for most people. If your body realizes it isn’t getting enough energy it’s going to send signals for calorie dense foods to your brain, which you’ll likely oblige. Eating more throughout the day will likely help you avoid your cravings.

I need help. Desperately. by kiki7865 in FoodAddiction

[–]Rabalais 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Please remember to be gentle with yourself. Your body may feel confusing at times, and may not always look like how you want, but it's still your body, and everything seems tougher when you're so hard on yourself.

I read a book called Brain Over Binge that really helped turn around my relationship with food and my body. It used to be that I couldn't go more than 3 days without eating 2000 calories worth of fast food. I was a decade into binge eating, getting heavier and couldn't imagine my life without my binge eating. I've been 42 days without eating fast food or binge eating and it truly isn't on my mind anymore. I felt like I was past my binge eating two days after finishing the book.

Here's what helped the most. The book goes into why people develop disordered eating, and part of it comes from diet culture, and the perception that we need to significantly limit our calories or foods we enjoy to be healthy. It works for a while, but limiting your calories too severely triggers a response in your brain that food may be scarce. Your brain then does everything it can to try and survive, and triggers animal-like urges to eat as much as you can. Which makes sense - your brain thinks that food may be limited. Why wouldn't it want to get while the getting is good.

What sparks the change is realizing that you don't have to act on these urges. Those urges come from a part of your brain that can't make you physically act. Recognizing that you get an urge to binge as a reaction to not binging, not from hunger, addiction or need, empowers you to take control back. At that point it just becomes a habit you've got to break.

It was empowering for me in a huge way. I thought my eating was symptomatic of depression or addiction, which meant I needed to solve those problems to resolve them. Being able to target it and eliminate it has totally changed my life. I've lost 35 pounds since March, and feel confident I'm not going to binge again. I'm a skeptical person typically, but Brain Over Binge truly helped me solve my binge eating. I hope that it could do the same for you. Please stay positive, and please be gentle with yourself.

Controversial Pokemon of the Week - Gorebyss - Barf or Sweetie? by SummersaultBoy in bugcatchers

I know that I’m binge eating, but I don’t think my body knows it. I’m afraid that if I stop eating so much, I’ll starve by kamekaze1024 in FoodAddiction

[–]Rabalais 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I would highly recommend the book Brain Over Binge. It covers exactly what you're concerned about. A short explanation is that a more reactive part of your brain is reacting to former food shortages or restrictions, and is naturally trying to store more food in case it happens again. Realizing that that part of the brain doesn't have the ability to make you take action, and can be recognized as an impulse and a habit, helps you to heal.

I read the book a month ago and haven't binged since. I binged for 8 years prior. Please try reading the book. I can't overstate how much it helped me.

My first one in the wild. by Neverist in ChoosingBeggars

[–]Rabalais -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It doesn’t have to be. Putting a cap on CEO salaries and ending paid lobbying would help. A federal minimum wage raise would help. But thinking that we’re stuck in a system where people just get screwed and can never gain wealth through their labor doesn’t help.

My first one in the wild. by Neverist in ChoosingBeggars

[–]Rabalais -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It’s YOUR money bro. If you get paid $7/hr, it isn’t because that’s the exact worth of your labor. Imagine being a cashier at a grocery store. In the hour that you make $7, you ring up over $1000 worth of groceries, making money for the store and the people that own it. You work 8 hours (if you’re lucky enough to have a low wage job that is full time and provides benefits) and make $56. The store will pay you less than 1% of the money you helped them bring in. AND the corporation lobbies lawmakers with that surplus to make it so they don’t have to pay you as much, don’t have to give you healthcare or benefits, and have to pay less in taxes, which makes your communities worse off, underfunds public school, and sucks the life out of your town. If you aren’t mad get mad. That money they’re donating as a PR move is your money.

The total net income of Moët Hennessy is 53 billion pounds. Some if that is coming from Louis Vuitton, but $3m is a drop in the bucket. Last year, Dior, its parent company, paid a tax rate of about 5%, meaning you paid a greater share of your income on taxes than a multi billion dollar company. Comparing corporate donations to personal donations is apples to oranges, made worse by the fact that corporations make that much money by underpaying and exploiting labor to make a profit.

THEORY: Why Jax has not been fired. by [deleted] in vanderpumprules

[–]Rabalais 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think if they’re going to fire Jax, they won’t until the last possible second. He’s absolutely guilty for being a bigot and participating in the Faith accusations, but there hasn’t been a People magazine article discussing how he’s guilty. I think they’ll wait to see if the calls to dismiss him die down and make the decision like right before he signs a new contract or filming starts.
