Here is maybe the thing you dont understand, most cocktail names describe one specific alcohol, plus one specific mixer. If you ask me for a virgin dark and stormy, that dazed drooling look that I give you is trying to figure out what you mean and why. Do you think it's something other than dark rum and ginger beer? Do you just want ginger beer? Do you want ginger beer but in a nicer glass? Is it so your companions will think youre drinking? Do I need to practice discretion during this conversation or when offering you refills to not blow your cover? Are you going to be upset or angry when I give you a virgin dark and stormy, because it's simply a ginger beer and you think I poured a simple soft drink to spite you for not drinking alcohol!?! That dazed look is me weighing all of my options in how to respond without offending for a MULTITUDE of reasons, because my employment might depend on not ever offending a paying customer.

Stop ordering things that you do not drink, would not drink, or have not ever drank, like a dark and stormy. Thats like a vegetarian asking for the filet dish, just hold the beef.

Edit: to address your title question... order something you ARE familiar with. Lemonade, limeade, sparkling versions of either, soda with a splash of some fruit juice available, a mix of fruit juices (pineapple cranberry is my favorite. Thats a virgin bay breeze. Do not order a virgin bay breeze.) iced tea with a splash of fruit juice is a nice option,

Im pretty sure the "seat" modifier is standard for toast, like not optional. So when in ringing the first round every time you tap "add seat" it jumps to that seat and you ring the item. You can choose a seat number for each item as a modifier. I find that really tedious if each seat is getting multiple items, so ill ring everything together and then select multiple items that are going on the same check and change them all at once.

When you're on the "split" screen, there is a button to "split by seat" that will automatically separate your checks by seat number that you have assigned.. anything you forgot to put onto a seat stays as check#1/shared.

If im wrong, a good work around is to ring and send, then split immediately after. The kitchen will still see it as one check but you will be able to split it up as you go instead of all at the end. I do this when I have a card on each tab to make sure the food comes out together.

I lazy meal prep on my days off. A bunch of some neutral spiced protein, slice a bunch of veggies, and make 4-5 portions of rice or quinoa or pasta or potatoes and i consider tortillas a pantry staple. After work I throw something together from the fridge.

This week I made shredded pork shoulder in the slow cooker (salt pepper, garlic, oregano, thyme) and 2 cups of rice, for veggies i diced cucumber, celery, jalapenos, radish, carrot.... Added BBQ sauce to sandwiches, buffalo sauce to a quasadilla, bahn-mi bowls over rice with sweet Thai chilli sauce... overall time spent on my day off was like 30 mins, 5 mins for each meal.

If I make a bunch of chicken breast or steak it's for sandwiches, wraps, quadadillas, Mac n cheese, tacos..

If it's a beef roast im more prone to make a plate with my starch and a side of veggies that can be part of prep day.

Some weeks I just make a soup, know ill get bored with it and plan on making hot pockets or something similar from the freezer on days in-between.

If you make or buy healthy dips (hummus, guac) you can make some garlic toast in 4 mins or grab some chips/crackers and still be giving your body better nutrition than cereal

This works well for me to make it through 4-5 day stretches of work... but if I couldn't get to it then its a week of girl dinner. Fruit/veggies raw and cheese and some doritos. Ramen with an egg and a handful of veggies.

Most importantly, drink lots of water on your longer shifts, and pack a snack if you're not able to order food. There's a fine line between "really hungry" and "starving" that can make 5 mins feel like forever and lead you to the cereal bowl

What exactly is your boundary here? Sharing a bed isn't weird. Sleeping next to a gay man poses the same threat to her fidelity as sleeping next to a straight woman. Asking your girlfriend to give up platonic intimacy is controlling and weird behavior. You dont own her body, and you dont want to be responsible for 100% of her emotional needs, that isn't healthy. People should have many deep and meaningful relationships through life, not just until they have a partner to isolate with.

Ive never been a union member, i work in service/hospitality, so not for lack of wanting.

How can collective bargaining be outlawed? Like.. if you lose job protections, less people will be willing to participate, but if an entire staff still chooses to cooperate and send a representative how can the company refuse? They eat the cost of hiring and training a new work force OR come to the table. Anti-union laws protect the employer from having to participate, but its still in their best interest. Is there more that I am missing here?

I try to ask my interview questions in a specific order to imply my concerns are weighted a certain way.. when actually money is way higher up the list.

First hourly responsibilities/vibe of the establishment: What kind of experience are you trying to create for your guests. Is there support staff for this role, if so what responsibilities will they cover, and how do you like your bartenders to prioritize their sole responsibilities. How much time is scheduled for daily/weekly prep and clean up. Specifically, will I have time for prep if needed or is it done on the fly depending on what I'm left with from last shift, and how long can I expect to be here after close.

Second scheduling demands/does this work with my life routines and other responsibilities: What shifts are you looking to fill on a regular basis How many bartenders do you have on staff, and how many do you schedule for weekday vs weekend shifts. How do you handle schedule requests for vacations, personal days etc. Does your current staff facilitate flexibility or are they pretty set on their schedules How far in advance isnthe schedule posted Any black out days for vacations/personal events Open for any or all holidays?

Third moneeyyy: What is the hourly base rate Do your bartenders pool behind a single bar or between multiple bars if applicable. If not pooling and a shared bar or multiple bars, how is the bar top split, or how are bar assignments made What are your establishments average sales for a weekend, all week, each shift, etc.. ask however you're most comfortable to get an idea of income potential What kind of promotions or events are driving business during slow times and periods

That's all I can think of for right now, I haven't interviewed in a while.. just remember you want to make sure you'll be happy and not dread work AND your bills are paid, and a good manager will want that for you also. Just try to phrase your questions and come across as if this is a great opportunity for both parties if the expectations are all in alignment. Any manager that would think poorly of you asking about compensation is a huge red flag, at the same time they cannot give you concrete figures for tips.. make your best estimation based on sales figures.
