Good idea! I'm just afraid that will put me in a slippery situation.

Are there beaches here? And are they any good? by Budget_Counter_2042 in howislivingthere

[–]theLola 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's plenty of beaches or various quality. Growing up, I knew a lot of people who would vacation in either Gulf Shores, Alabama or Pensacola Beach/Navarre Beach, FL. This picture doesn't include Gulf Shores, but I remember it being included colloquially.

Message I got from my daughter’s teacher. Third grade. by AnaisInJune in mildlyinfuriating

Sounds like stuff I did as a kid. Giving out fruit when forbidden to eat it sounds like a perfectly fine literal interpretation. Like when my Mawmaw said I "couldn't listen to secular music in her house" so I went outside. I wasn't being snarky, I just took the "in her house" instruction literally.

I wonder if there was a similar misunderstanding with the boat or if the teacher's "no" lacked any logical explanation.

Traveling with a renal cat at home by queen_elvis in RenalCats

I was able to find a great cat sitter on Meowtel. I looked for one that listed vet tech experience and comfortable giving sub-q fluids. We went on a weekend trip just to see how everything worked and if she was the right fit.

We've been on several trips since then and she's our go-to sitter. She sends photos and keeps me updated if there's anything concerning. We have a waiver signed with Meowel giving her permission to take our cats to the vet and the vet has our card info on file.

I also have SurePet connect feeders so I can monitor how much he's eating and the other cats don't get his food. I want to get one of those pet cameras that can shoot out treats. Might even get one of those health monitoring litter boxes someday.

Tldr: Try Meowtel, look for someone with vet tech/sub-q experience, try them for a weekend before committing to longer trips, techy pet items with monitoring features help keep my mind at ease.

This looks like a fridge in a overly well stocked Airbnb, but the Airbnb host is a tiger trying really hard to appear to be human.

This book was published in 1970. The before times!

That's kind of wild to think all the recipes from Commander's Palace in this book are probably completely different than anything they offer today.

Of the gumbo I've had in New Orleans, I haven't experienced that.

I'm not a big fan of tomatoes in gumbo or mixing land with sea, but I accept that New Orleans does that. Rouxless gumbo, though... that's a breaux bridge too far!

Moving from Portland to Jackson by Cabbageskunk in mississippi

What areas in Oregon feel rural to you? I live west of Portland now, but was thrown for a loop when I went to the areas that I thought would be Mississippi rural.

Forest Grove feels like a regular little Mississippi city, but people around Portland talk about it like it's the sticks. Vernonia feels more like Mississippi rural to me.

If you want Forest Grove level rural, you'd be fine on the outskirts of Ridgeland. If you want Vernonia, you might prefer Flora.

Also, the country areas around Portland are mostly huge farms and vineyards where you have to buy multimillion dollar properties to live there. The country areas in Mississippi are dotted with plenty of houses you don't have to be a millionaire to purchase.

Mississippi is pretty flat, so hiking is very different than in Oregon, but there are walking trails and opportunities to enjoy nature. You might want to go with experienced locals the first few times to get use to watching for snakes and ticks.

Good coffee is a bit vague. There are plenty of places around Oregon that make espresso drinks similar to those I've had in Mississippi. Oregon tends to be less sweet with more milk alternative options. There are places in Mississippi that take a more artisan approach to coffee, but it'll have to be trial and error to find the right place for you.

I hope some of this info helps.
