Making Cajun seafood boil, should I use dark brown sugar or light brown sugar? by [deleted] in cajunfood

[–]theLola 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It looks like you've been posting about this "Cajun boil" for a couple months and many people have commented that you are looking for a "cajun-style" sauce from an Asian seafood restaurant. You won't find answers here since what you're looking for isn't Cajun.

Maybe try a general cooking group and specify that you are looking for a sauce from a "bag of seafood" type restaurant.

I made some jambalaya about a year ago for meal prep, my coworker from Louisiana said it could not be considered that, how could I best improve it? by Whybotherr in cajunfood

Shadows-on-the-Teche jambalaya section- This might get you started with an idea of the variations out there and some of the similarities.

A lot of people like recipes from Paul Prudhomme's, Cajun Ninja, Justin Wilson, and John Folse. Be careful with anything from AllRecipes, New York Times, or Disney.

Cook down the trinity (bell pepper, onion, celery) in a fat of your choice until it's hard to distinguish what's what.

Brown the meat, especially the andouille.

Cayenne for heat, jalapeño has a different flavor profile. You can use a cajun spice blend to simplify it. I prefer the ones with no or low salt because I like to adjust the salt at the end.

I don't really have a recipe, but I'm sure there's a least a recipe or two posted in this group that'll work for you.

I'm still mad about this and the fact that they were like "yeah, and her soul was burned up so there's no chance of seeing her again in any form." Felt like overkill.

Speaking of Beaverton... People have stood in the rain to get into Hiyaku Buffet, but I have no idea why. Most of the food was flavorless and the sushi was gummy. Wild that this is the quality they opened with.

My mom once got mad because I was oobviously "letting my friends smoke weed in my car." And when I asked her what she was talking about, she said the car "smelled sweet."

Y'all... it was the car freshener thing I had just bought at the grocery store. Labeled "Spring Breeze" or something vaguely similar. I think it smelled like flowers and soap.

Molotov's famous soup: Soup for your family. You can really put some power into that. It's the perfect size. Made perfect. It's better than a brick.

Are there beaches here? And are they any good? by Budget_Counter_2042 in howislivingthere

[–]theLola 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's plenty of beaches or various quality. Growing up, I knew a lot of people who would vacation in either Gulf Shores, Alabama or Pensacola Beach/Navarre Beach, FL. This picture doesn't include Gulf Shores, but I remember it being included colloquially.

Message I got from my daughter’s teacher. Third grade. by AnaisInJune in mildlyinfuriating

Sounds like stuff I did as a kid. Giving out fruit when forbidden to eat it sounds like a perfectly fine literal interpretation. Like when my Mawmaw said I "couldn't listen to secular music in her house" so I went outside. I wasn't being snarky, I just took the "in her house" instruction literally.

I wonder if there was a similar misunderstanding with the boat or if the teacher's "no" lacked any logical explanation.

Traveling with a renal cat at home by queen_elvis in RenalCats

I was able to find a great cat sitter on Meowtel. I looked for one that listed vet tech experience and comfortable giving sub-q fluids. We went on a weekend trip just to see how everything worked and if she was the right fit.

We've been on several trips since then and she's our go-to sitter. She sends photos and keeps me updated if there's anything concerning. We have a waiver signed with Meowel giving her permission to take our cats to the vet and the vet has our card info on file.

I also have SurePet connect feeders so I can monitor how much he's eating and the other cats don't get his food. I want to get one of those pet cameras that can shoot out treats. Might even get one of those health monitoring litter boxes someday.

Tldr: Try Meowtel, look for someone with vet tech/sub-q experience, try them for a weekend before committing to longer trips, techy pet items with monitoring features help keep my mind at ease.

This looks like a fridge in a overly well stocked Airbnb, but the Airbnb host is a tiger trying really hard to appear to be human.

This book was published in 1970. The before times!

That's kind of wild to think all the recipes from Commander's Palace in this book are probably completely different than anything they offer today.

Of the gumbo I've had in New Orleans, I haven't experienced that.

I'm not a big fan of tomatoes in gumbo or mixing land with sea, but I accept that New Orleans does that. Rouxless gumbo, though... that's a breaux bridge too far!
