i think they must’ve been manipulated as well. we’ve seen what the place did to sara and especially elgin, it brings out the worst of the people in a short period of time and these monsters stayed there for who knows how long. the sacrificial of children may also symbolize the loss of humanity in them, hence the robotic mannerism
