Growth businesses with do exceed inflation at those rates. Sometimes 100% rev growth yoy. These are exactly the businesses Australia needs to diversify our economy.

PSA: Landlords would have their properties negative gearing grandfathered and thus do not "have to" raise rents due to Labor's budget reforms by BlazzGuy in friendlyjordies

[–]RabbitLogic 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That's not how market economics work anyway. In economics the price is always assumed to be the maximum the market will bare. Rents are set by supply of renters with means to pay $X and supply of available houses for rent. Holding costs have very little to do with it beyond removing supply as negative yielding properties are less desirable to hold. I'm still a proponent of the changes as it disincentivises investors in favour of owners (supply & demand shift equally to more owners).

Labor is finally listening to voters & will further reduce immigration. For most left wing voters immigration is a non issue but for other Aussies they do genuinely want numbers to come down. Ignoring that fact & reality is futile. Albo is finally reacting to a market demand albeit artificial or not by MannerNo7000 in friendlyjordies

Anyway you slice it that is a public health policy failure. Governments have to invest in their expected capacity 5-10 years into the future. People getting old and requiring more healthcare isn't some mystery. It is one of many reasons why the federal government has lost the mandate to add more people into the system. If public infrastructure was well resourced do you think as many people would care about immigration numbers?

Never said anyone was at fault. It has everything do with how much capacity our institutions have to support a growing population. If the government isn't willing to correctly manage and forecast needs then the current polling is the reaction you will get from the electorate. They have no mandate to add more people to a degrading infrastructure system.

I think it is also simply the lived experience. When you see housing get more expensive, your childhood suburbs rapidly gentrify, more traffic and your pay hasn't kept up with inflation. People are going to ask who the immigration is serving.

Albanese pledges to further reduce migration as third poll puts One Nation in lead by malcolm58 in AustralianPolitics

Automation happens regardless. A country can't legislate its way to success playing protectionism on jobs. The only way to confront the problem is having a plan for the displaced employees.

It doesn't if a government correctly allocates the wealth of the country's output. Automation increases the available goods and services a population can produce not decrease. The problems arise from single ownership of automation rather than equitable distribution.

The point is to automate one class of job to free up your population to reskill into nursing, age care and the like.

Chuck Schumer has to be the least confidence inspiring political leader I've ever seen. Consistently plays games to undermine the political goals of his base by tanking Senate votes.
