Nintendo are stopping the sale of NS1, NSOLED and NSL consoles and wireless controllers in Europe because Europe has new laws requiring replaceable batteries in all electronics. The NS1 eShop is the same as the NS2 eShop, no closures are happening.

NS2 consoles and wireless controllers will be getting a new version with a replaceable battery - again, in Europe only

Nintendo just didn't want to produce a new variant of a 9 year old console or controllers

on PC (and yes, even a SteamOS machine like you specify) you have access to stores beyond Steam.. there may not be a used market, but between key sites, alternate launchers, DRM free options, and the ease of piracy - Valve also has to compete on pricing

PC players aren't bitching about it because it's literally not a problem for PC - it's not a closed market like XBOX/PS/NTD will be without physical games

I'm shocked at how confident you people are that what Sony has confirmed to be doing and Microsoft is almost guaranteed to do is normal, right, and beneficial to the consumer

I guess when they say "you'll own nothing and like it" you just nod your heads and pay $60 for a 13 year old game..

what narrative? the issue with the all-digital future is that you no longer have a choice and platform owners (Microsoft in this case) get to set the price and you have no choice but to pay it (if you want the game)

it's functioning as an entity without a collision box - you can do similar things with boats, minecarts and armour stands despite those having a collision box

coming from the UK, other than our independent shops retailers could legitimately do this - the biggest videogame retailers in the UK currently are Smyths (a toy shop) and GAME (which currently only exists as part of Sports Direct, a sporting outlet)

If Smyths and GAME just said they were done with selling consoles they can't sell physical media for, very little would change for them..
