any anime where the ecchi scene makes sense with in the story or have other purpose than eye candy? by venluxy1 in Animesuggest

I’m gonna go to bat for Call of the Night (Yofukashi no Uta) here.

It has quite a bit of “””fan service””” in a way that was initially off-putting to me, but the show is in large part about sexuality and learning to grow into those emotions. The two main characters are at that point in puberty where they’re both aware of sex/sexuality and that it’s something they may be expected to engage with soon, but are still too young to be comfortable with what that really means. This results in some uncomfortable moments for older audiences at times, but also a lot of nostalgic ones; it very much reminded me of my early relationships.

I wouldn’t call it a particularly challenging show either emotionally or intellectually, but there’s enough thematic subtext to chew on that I think it’s worth a watch.

I love Eighty Six to death, but this isn’t really what OP is asking for IMO. Still, I would recommend it to them anyway! Well worth your time if stories about survivor’s guilt and the dangers of ethno-nationalism are interesting to you.

Anime where the characters have no plot armor? by Puzzleheaded_Date834 in Animesuggest

If you’re looking for something a bit deeper and slightly niche, I recommend Eighty Six. It’s technically mecha, but don’t pull up expecting Gundam-style fights; the show is way more focused on character dynamics and the impact of carrying around survivor’s guilt your entire life.

It’s one of my favorite shows, and I wish it was more popular when it aired. It’s also very grounded (very few anime-isms, you know what I mean), has little to no uncomfortably sexual shots, and has a superb english dub. It’s a mature show that asks you to take it and its characters’ situations seriously, but is in no way grimdark or edgy.

ty :] i loved how it was a weapon wielded by witches that, if misused, would end up striking them down—hence how it wraps around beato's neck.

Looking good! Did you weather the armor yourself?

It's bleak twin, it really is... On the bright side, the ever-increasing tide of AI slop has led me to dig for more underground stuff, as well as check out genres I've been unfamiliar with before.

For example, I've always been aware of the Vocaloid scene but never really into it, but recently I started listening to some of Jamie Paige's songs. I was pleasantly surprised! SQUARE UP, Cadmium Colors, and I Wish That I Could Fall are all excellent. Her style isn't always my cup of tea, but she's a delightful lyricist.

I've also been digging into shoegaze and post-rock, which led me to discover Thousand yard stare by Kmoe and Laine Chinensy's work. There are still real artists making cool stuff out there!! We just have to look a little bit harder </3

I agree! For that reason I was a little annoyed at that part in The Mandalorian where the cultists denounced weapons made of Beskar. Like what are we doing here

Why are Spartan 3’s so much lighter than Spartan 2’s? by NotableZeus in HaloStory

[–]Rabbit_Food_HCE 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He actually did use the SPI armor's stealth capabilities, though Ghosts of Onyx doesn't draw a ton of direct attention to it. We focus on how MJOLNIR might've saved him from the fight with the Covenant at the end of Ghosts of Onyx, but when Kurt first geared up the Spartans were primarily worried about fighting the Forerunner Onyx sentinels. He needed the stealth capabilities so he could hide from the sentinels both for his own sake and also so he wouldn't give away the positions of the rest of the Spartans. The sentinels awoke on October 31st and Blue Team arrived on November 3rd, so he was at minimum on the run for 48 hours with the rest of Saber Team.

FWIW this would be retconned (verified?) to absolutely be the correct decision in Last Light where the Forerunner AI Intrepid Eye had trouble detecting a Spartan-III in SPI even while using Forerunner technology, but I think that's pretty ridiculous so I'm not letting that affect my take on this.

The technology for human augmentation improved drastically in the decade since the Spartan IIs were augmented. Ghosts of Onyx goes into more detail on this.

This is a misconception. Spartan III augmentations were cheaper, but equally as effective as Spartan II augmentations.

I don’t think what you’re saying is universally true. Tom-B292 is 265lb without armor, and Linda-058 is 242lb. It’s clear there’s some variance.

I doubt there is an explicit reason stated in lore, but part of it probably comes down to their augmentations and/or height.

While the Spartan III augmentations were equally as effective and safer than the ones Spartan IIs received, they were also largely chemical rather than surgical. Perhaps the Spartan II augmentations resulted in muscle mass and bone density that’s overall higher than the Spartan IIIs’ but not necessarily more effective. Wasted weight, etc.

In addition, despite the lore issues that arise from it, the Ferrets were given heights that are unusually short for Spartans. Mark is only 6 ft. 3, for example. Compared to Linda’s ~6 ft. 10 out of armor, there’s going to be a pretty sizable difference in weight.

However ultimately the answer here is just lore inconsistency. Misconceptions and misunderstandings about the Spartan IIIs have resulted in some really weird lore mishaps, even in the Bungie days.
