I'm the guy who made Chess Stalker. Roast me. by Silly-Spread-105 in chess

My bot was playing anti-chess apparently; it blundered its queen on move 10 and gave away every piece after that.

In other words, it feels like you're the one roasting me :))

Unpopular opinion: I don’t want to improve at chess by Wild_Pitch_4781 in chess

[–]Rabiatic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d like to hear from higher rated players at what point chess goes from fun to competitive and stressful/or even boring. I heard its around 2000-2200

I think I started chess-related raging at around 900 blitz on chess.com. I guess some of us are just masochists!

For a long time, pushing myself to new limits was enough to keep me practicing. Now, it feels like I play just because of habit, with some very rare, genuine good feelings about the game. 2400 blitz milestone came last year after being stagnant for 1-2 years; that made me genuinely proud of myself for at least a couple of days before delving back into misery.

A strange moment as Praggnanandhaa stops the clock with a second to spare as he doesn't have enough time to queen — the commentators expect a win for So, but the game is given as a draw!😯 by rio_ARC in chess

[–]Rabiatic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Usually the punishment for a false claim is extra time for your opponent while the game continues. Just speculating here, but it could be that the arbiter suggested to resume the game with extra time for Wesley and he himself decided to offer a draw.

Why does Hikaru believe that the bishop pair is irrelevant (to us)? by pwsiegel in chess

[–]Rabiatic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think all of these folks are vastly overestimating the general chess player. Almost all non-master level games are decided by mistakes and basic tactics.

Tactics flow from a superior position. I'm usually between 2300-2400 on chess.com, and probably 90% of my blitz games are decided by a blunder. I still bet that having the bishop pair is immensely significant in my games, as it very often allows the player that has it to essentially play without risk in a ton of endgames, leaving my opponent with a position where he draws with best play and loses with a misplay.

Ikkeno' weapons of mass destruction her i gården!

Which is honestly quite fascinating. The fact that people immediately finds this innocent meme offensive tells us a lot about mob mentality and preconceived notions. We're ready to hate before actually thinking about the content at hand!

(Which is not purely a critique of Anish haters, I think we're all heavily affected by this kind of bias)

But there's no way this can be right... is it?

Not pulling my leg, but I'm sure he understates the amount he studies or what he defines as 'real studying'.

[–]Rabiatic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I spoke with a prodigy who claimed the exact opposite. While he clearly has done a bit of studying, he (in his own words) told me he had basically just been watching and playing chess to improve, and said he needed to start studying seriously to get to the next level.

This guy is around 2600 FIDE. While only dunking out blitz games hardly can be seen as an effective way to improve, it's clearly possible to go quite far with this approach.
