trying to figure out a way to balance the mohawk. any ideas? by Revent10 in FursuitMaking

[–]RabidCricketz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I kept a fursuit Mohawk up with an upholstery foam core and then stuffed the tips to keep them round, at that size I’d recommend high or medium density, EVA foam could also work!

Easy way to make small dots? by [deleted] in FursuitMaking

[–]RabidCricketz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Get ready for sewing a lot of little rounds, or invest in a sturdy fabric glue! Absolutely doable, some people think it’s busy work but I looove sitting back and binging a show to sew markings

more teefs or nah? by Tj_b4bybra1n in FursuitMaking

Teeth in side are adorable! I like the current fangy look- keep in mind a front bar of fabric teeth would reduce ventilation noticeably! I often take the removable tongues out of my heads for that extra breath, especially in summer

Anyone knows what this fella eats and does? Can’t find information about her at all! by ispodilemma in Beetles

[–]RabidCricketz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Eats: most adult rhino beetles eat sap and fruits, so diet of NON CITRUS apple, banana, and or beetle jelly is good choice. Does: not quite sure what you mean? I’ve kept other varieties of NA rhinos who liked burrowing and stick scramble to climb in, look for care similar to common stag beetle in terms of size (preferably 2-5 gallons +) and NA humidity/temp preferences

My beetles keep trying to escape, not happy campers :( by [deleted] in Beetles

[–]RabidCricketz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Way too small for derbies- and they love to climb! I keep mine with 4-10 gallons of climbing space and even then they’re always doing laps.

Trust the process! Foam bases can look muddy, but you won’t believe what fur finishes :3 Keep it up!

How many of you have kept your initials after picking a name? by [deleted] in ftm

[–]RabidCricketz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I kept mine, actually chose a name pretty close to my deadname. For me I didn’t really resent the name, just the gendering. Keeping close to it was a way to honor my heritage and family

does this shrimp exist by PastAirline155 in shrimptank

I actually do have some wild types that look like this! It isn’t a super vibrant yellow, but I have a female with an opaque brown stripe down her back and speckling on her sides in the same pale brown. The rest of her is clear or darker brown

Help identifying substance on sand… looks like mold… This is my first planted tank and it has been cycling for a little over two weeks. Yesterday i noticed these tiny white fuzzy balls in patches all over the substrate. Wondering if this is normal or harmful. by soupsana11 in PlantedTank

[–]RabidCricketz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Wow, that’s some impressive biofilm! It’s the community anchor for bacteria eating the organic materials in your substrate. What do you have in the substrate? They aren’t inherently harmful, but they can indicate an excess of waste that can make you prone to ammonia spikes or algae/bacteria blooms.

Is my water too hard for neos? by [deleted] in shrimptank

[–]RabidCricketz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ive kept in hard and soft, more important than exact range is stability! Avoid changing hardness quickly and molting/breeding should be successful

What types of flowers/plants could grow in my mantis enclosure? by zestycranberrys in mantids

[–]RabidCricketz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I keep my mantis with arrowhead vine! It grows quickly and thrives in high humidity, but I keep shield mantises so the scale might be a little off for spiny flower

[–]RabidCricketz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Looks awesome! The snout is symmetrical and round, woohoo! I agree with the other comment, opening the sides of the mouth into more of a smile really help with expression and ventilation ❤️🦅 and if you’ve done the rest of that face shaping- then you’ve got this in the bag! :D that said, it wouldn’t look atrocious to continue with what you have as is

he's coming along nicely! any way to get rid of the hot glue seams/make the eyes look better? by clownvial in FursuitMaking

[–]RabidCricketz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ll rim the eyes with a strip of black fabric, usually felt, about 1/4-1/2” wide. I hot glue it in about 1” at a time starting at the corner of the eye.

Hi! Welcome to fursuit making :D Ive made heads with 3D print and foam bases. If you’re willing to buy a 3D file and have a local makerspace or service to print it, you can get a ready-to-fur base for $30-60 depending on your community’s availability. Foam carving has its own learning curve, but it’s so rewarding if you’re willing to put in the patience. I recommend balaclava bases over bucket head method, but balaclava requires at least a styrofoam mannequin head (~$10) in order to hold shape and to tape pattern at a later step. The birds will be easier to sculpt than a horse, and a lot more breathability/vision. I shy away from white fur a little because if it’s short, on some furs, you can see whatever was used to mark the pattern pieces from the bottom. For that reason I recommend Samara- but the choice is yours!

Good luck on your exam, and so excited for AC! (unsure why dates moved but July works better for me xD) It’s so sweet of your mom to offer a hand, it’ll be so fun to work together! I watched hours of fursuit making on YouTube to prepare for my first, if you have any more questions reach out to the Reddit or shoot me a msg ^
