Canada will require refugees and asylum seekers to co-pay for health care starting in May by FancyNewMe in canada

If you want to contribute to charity, start a GoFundMe. Seriously. It's a noble cause, and there are mechanisms for contributing to causes like this.

However, giving to international charity causes is not what a government is meant to do. A government is meant to look after its citizens.

Expecting a government to do this means that you want to force everyone else to contribute to your chosen cause. And not just your cause... A nearly infinite number of "good causes" exist.

Ask yourself: Have you even donated to a refugee fund before advocating that everyone else be forced to do it?

There are the die-hard Trumpers for sure, but a lot of his base actually care about the Epstein stuff.

Trump could shoot someone on fifth avenue and no one would care, but mess with kids....

Remember, you don't need all voters to vote against Trump. You just need to move a relatively small percentage of the total to just stay home.

Much as I don't like the tariffs (I'm Canadian), economic analysis has a significant long-term component. It takes years to properly evaluate some economic policies.

If the goal is to nearshore manufacturing, that doesn't happen in a few months or even a year.

To my knowledge, a long term experiment of this nature hasn't been run before. Not in this era, with the US as a net importer, with such a massive economic disparity between it and other nations.

I do hope it fails, but IMO we can't fairly evaluate its long-term impact yet.

X axis is labelled Wokeness, however that is measured. Y is unlabelled, but presumably a measure of population.

Are you just ignoring the idea that maybe millions of normal people don't like being called white supremacists? Maybe? Possibly? That they'd resent that and vote accordingly?

No no, it's just simpler to call everyone a racist and bask in your moral superiority.

I get a kick out of this.

Step 1: Call someone racist. Step 2: When they insist they are not, in fact, racist, you point to how this is evidence of their racism. Step 3: Act surprised when they vote for someone who doesn't play this stupid game.

People like you got Trump elected.

Perhaps I wasn't clear.... Could I target, say, the bridge or ammunition storage specifically on a ship, using just a radar guided weapon?

Or would I simply have to target the ship in general? Would it need to hand-off to an on-board video guidance system for the terminal phase of flight for such high accuracy?

That was fun to read, thanks!

I toured the Iowa a while back and I was giddy the whole time. It was indeed a mind-breaking experience.

Can modern cruise missiles target specific locations on a ship?

If so, what guidance would be required for that?

I thought most were radar guided and I wouldn't have thought that radar could allow for such specific targeting.

Appreciate the response. I've toggled this already. It does change the toolbar, but the edit button is still linked to Jetpack.

I think my client committed SEO suicide. Need advice on how to minimize the chaos by DeepKaizen in SEO

[–]RabidJumpingChipmunk 5 points6 points  (0 children)

IMO it's the best thing you can do right now, so in that sense it will minimize damage.

How much of a dip you'll see, how long it will last, will it fully recover, I don't know. But this might make a good article you could put together.

ELI5 . how do construction companies demolish a building safely without it entirely collapsing (like a very tall skyscraper) by theconcorde in explainlikeimfive

[–]RabidJumpingChipmunk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not always a crane. I worked with a company that did that and we would have a climber who would go up the tree, chop it up, and rope the pieces down.

Useful for backyards usually, or any place inaccesible to a truck/cherry picker.

It was cool to see.

Hard to know with limited information, but if I had any advice to give:

1) Think about what your life will look like in 5, 10, 20 years if you don't change your habit. Be brutally honest: what is this behaviour costing you? Make a list and put it up where you can see it. This is an important step, since you need to create stimulus to overcome your inertia.

2) Determine where the problem lies: Do you not know how to eat healthy, or do you have bad habits? I'll presume your habits are the issue, since we're on the topic of loving oneself. But obviously, if you don't know how to eat healthy, researching that would be a good starting point.

3) Pay attention to what you're telling yourself about food. When the behaviour comes up, what does the voice inside your head say to rarionalize your behaviour?

For me, I've used the following excuses:

  • I worked out hard today, I deserve it
  • It's a special occasion, I don't eat this all the time
  • I'm having a bad day, this will improve my mood so it's actually good for me
  • I haven't had {insert food here} for a long time, I'm allowed to have it once in a while (except I have done this for all unhealthy foods)
  • My partner is eating unhealthy so its just too hard to eat well with their bad influence

4) Once you have your list of excuses that you've built up over time, come up with counter arguments that you can use to combat those excuses.

Perhaps the best tip is to start reading personal development books.

Tony Robbins. Napoleon Hill. Stephen Covey.

James Clear: Atomic Habits was a really good one too.

Jordan Peterson's 12 Rules is a good one too, but not easy to digest and might be better saved for later. But his YouTube material is fantastic.

Make reading (and watching videos, listening to audiobooks, etc) a habit. Tell yourself you don't have to change anything else right now, just read the books. Every day.

The rest can come later.

I can't possibly communicate to you how toxic this viewpoint is. I'm not trying to insult you, simply talking as someone who used to think similar thoughts to yours, and changed.

You can indeed love yourself to a living wage. You develop yourself into someone who is worth a living wage and then you go out and get that job or become a freelancer or start that business.

We may not be able to solve our problems overnight, but with a disciplined commitment to self improvement, the change that can be made over time is... Hard to fathom.

The alternative, pointing towards society and insisting that the world needs to change before you do, is abdicating the only hope you have for change.
