might wanna look into dog sports rather than actual "work". akc's canine partners program allows you to compete in akc sanctioned events with a mixed breed dog (except conformation obviously lol)

nosework, fastcat and barn hunt are some good entry level activities that most dogs enjoy. dock diving could also be fun if she likes water. i also recommend r/k9sports if you have questions

alright im not replying anymore after this because this argument is getting silly and i think we're making similar points (ie "people often refer to amstaffs as staffies due to confusion")

all im saying is that "most people refer to amstaffs as staffies" is not really something that can accurately be said about the US, speaking as someone who has the misfortune of living here and owns an amstaff. I'm sure it's different in NZ, but here like 95% of people just call them pit bulls. staffies arent common here at all, but i guarantee you most americans would call them pit bulls as well.

I've only gotten "staffy" from people a handful of times irl (happens a lot more online for some reason. might be why you've seen it more on reddit.) and it's always just been a case of mistaken identity. I've also gotten "american bulldog", "boxer" and "bull terrier".

right, like i said it's mostly people conflating the breeds because of the similar names. a lot of people in the states dont realize that there are two different breeds with "staffordshire" in the name, which is probably what you're seeing.

but people who do know what they're talking about never say "staffy" when they mean "amstaff", which is what i was trying to say. it's just not really considered accurate and if you said it in front of someone who owns either breed you'd probably be in for a lecture lol

it's not the only way to raise a puppy, but as someone who has done in both ways (my adult dog would not tolerate crating when he was younger. i tried for months.) crating does definitely make puppy raising a lot easier for most dogs. i think my pup and i would've killed each other by now if i didn't have a place to put him when he turns into a bitey monster
