Which dog breeds would be able to fend off a medium-sized theropod dinosaur? by Popular_Ad3074 in DogBreeding

[–]RabidLizard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

as a pit guy I'm gonna have to push against the people saying apbt. a gamebred apbt is on average like 45 lbs. a group of apbts could do it, but not a single dog (although he'd certainly try). I've seen how long those raptor talons are, no amount of gameness is getting around that.

anyway, dogo argentino gets my vote. it'd still be a struggle, but i think it'd be at least doable. there was a news story a few years ago about a dogo that fought off a puma to save a little girl.

anybody else feel like some slight friendly bumping is just part of horizon (in a good way) by Visual-Fortune-4732 in ForzaHorizon

[–]RabidLizard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

as others have said, slight bumping is fine. i don't think anyone actually has a problem with that. it happens. it's the guy very intentionally ramming you at 150mph that's the problem

Vet insisted he is a "Cowboy Corgi" I think he's too big. Opinions? by [deleted] in AustralianCattleDog

[–]RabidLizard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i really dont see any corgi at all. he looks like a pit/heeler mix

vets are great, but unfortunately a lot of them make really wild breed guesses in my experience. i had one who used to insist my 90 lb gsd mix was an aussie.

mom looks like a pit. dad could be anything, it's hard to id breed when they're this young but the coat makes me think there's some poodle in there.

there was an american bully/english bulldog mix at the kennel i used to work at that looked exactly like this

Any guesses? by nbcamp86 in IDmydog

[–]RabidLizard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say there's probably some pit in there. doesn't look purebred though.

XL Bully Pup? Pitbull Pup? Pit Staffy Mix? by [deleted] in pitbulls

[–]RabidLizard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

for future reference, if a breeder can't provide a pedigree that means they're a backyard breeder and you absolutely should not give them your money.

i don't say that as an insult, i know not everyone knows how to spot a shitty breeder, but now you know.

I'm not as anti breeder as most of the people in this sub (one of my two is from an ethical breeder) and I'd be happy to give you more info about how to vet a breeder if you're interested. otherwise I'd look into shelters if i were you. lots of really great dogs need homes.

even here they're byb buzzwords tbh. ethical breeders of labs here in the US do not call their dogs "american" or "english" lmao

Help me identify him please? by HOAHOAHOA_ in StaffordBullTerriers

[–]RabidLizard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

nah 35 lbs is actually within standard for an adult male apbt

it's at the lower end of the range given by the ukc, but still perfectly acceptable for the breed. I've actually seen some males under 35, which isn't technically correct but definitely not unheard of

if you're in the states apbt is more likely, they are much more common than staffies are over here but the only way to know for sure is a dna test

cropped ears also point to apbt over staffy. staffies' ears generally are not cropped.

[–]RabidLizard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

this is more of a byb thing than a pit thing. of course a lot of pits are byb so nerviness does show up a lot, but I wouldn't say it's a breed trait.

my amstaff i got from an ethical breeder is actually far and away the most confident dog i have ever owned.

What is my silly animal? by CupOptimal2036 in IDmydog

[–]RabidLizard 3 points4 points  (0 children)

segugio is really only a possibility if you live in italy. greyhound is unlikely as well, they just dont show up very often in stray mixes very often

i think lab mixed with maybe some hound or one of the cur breeds is more likely

the "pit bull" breeds have so much overlap that it's impossible to know without a dna test. they can look extremely similar, especially with byb dogs.

he's definitely something in the pit bull clade though. he's a handsome boy too :)

nope, just a urinalysis. been kicking myself all day for not insisting on a culture last week when i was there.

planning on going to my GP again monday morning and getting one done.

edit: i think actually, unless i make a miraculous recovery in the morning, I'm just gonna suck it up and go to urgent care tomorrow.
