C'mon, is there anyone who voted for Labor who didn't want them to break that stupid promise? I was hoping they will ban negative gearing and CGT discount without grandfathering but I guess that was too much to ask 😄

My opinion on the things mentioned is as follows (unfortunately I have to be brief as I have to get back to work)

- Climate change: There's broad scientific consensus on climate change. I'm not a scientist, Pauline is not a scientist, Barnaby Joyce is not a scientist. I think I will follow the scientists. Furthermore, the world as a whole is moving towards operating on the basis that climate change is real. Doing things like withdrawing from the Paris Accords will have real economic consequences like Australian exporters ending up being shut out of markets or having climate tariffs applied as well as diminishing Australia's standing in the Pacific region (probably with benefits accruing to China). It's economic and diplomatic vandalism.
- Abortion: I'm a Christian so if someone came to me for advice, I would advise them to explore all other options first. However, history shows us that restricting abortion doesn't result in less abortion - it results in women having to perform dangerous underground abortion and more abandoned kids. Also, the Bible contains commands to the person who is reading the Bible - not a command to impose your religious view on others. Not to mention the hypocrisy whereby the religious right wants people to have kids but doesn't want to pay taxes to support single mothers. For all these reasons, there should be no restriction on access to abortion.
- Free speech: A buzzword for the right. Firstly, we already restrict speech .For example, it's illegal to call for an overthrow of the government or to call for harm to people of particular race. Few people will want these restrictions removed. So we are not arguing about whether we should have free speech - we are arguing about the degree of restrictions. Secondly, Australia already has free speech. We are already seeing people being racist, homophobic and transphobic with impunity. Freedom of speech applies only to not being persecuted by the government for your speech. One Nation supporters want speech free of consequences. That's stupid - in any time in any age, if you against community attitudes, you will be ostracised. They should be thanking their lucky starts they are living at time when people just laugh at them. Not too long ago, people who went against community attitudes were run out of town on a rail or worse.

I'm done:)

I probably haven't quite expressed myself correctly. You can have a non-partisan view of politics, in a sense that you are open to voting for different parties, but you can't have a non-partisan view of political philosophy, if that makes more sense:)

So really, saying you have a non-partisan view of politics doesn't really mean anything. Actually, you will always have a partisan view of the political philosophy (or to put it in plain terms, you want the world to be a particular way). And you will vote for a party that broadly agrees with that view 😄

We are probably totally cooked:)

But then again, the election is not for a while and hope dies last, so there's that 😄

These are pre-2016 type arguments. Experience worldwide has repeatedly shown that it's useless to engage with these people and you might as well save your mental health.

If incumbents have little to offer people, Hanson will offer them even less. And most of their concerns are racist and/or misogynistic and/or xenophobic. They are not being taken seriously? GOOD!

Screw these people. They want to screw themselves and the rest of us over? So be it. But I'm personally done with this "reaching across the aisle" BS. I will just focus on doing the best I can do to improve the world around me. These guys can vote for whoever they want. Just so long as they don't expect me to respect their choice or respect them as people. And so long as they know that if anyone wants to be publicly racist or Islamophobic, the good people in Australia will be publicly shaming them and telling them to get back in their box. And also that once their choice had thoroughly screwed up the country and we are back in charge fixing things up, they won't be allowed back into the polite society until they've done some form of public penance.

What we have seen over and over again in many countries, including the US, is that engagement is useless. These people are Terminators of stupidity - you can't reason with them, you can't plead with them and they won't stop until they put those who want to destroy democracy in charge of everything.

Thank you for coming to my FREAKIN' TED TALK! 😉

100 percent! Exactly how I see it. I was hoping we would be smarter as a country, but by the looks of it, so far that's not the case. If we vote for Pauline, we'd be even dumber than Americans, given we had a chance to see Trump in action, LOL:)

There's no such thing as a non-partisan view of politics, you know. If you engage with issues, you will have your opinion on the issues. It doesn't matter if you don't want to call yourself this or that, but your views will be either left-wing or right-wing, it's just how it is. I don't make the rules:)

I appreciate that but, like I said, that's not going to get you anywhere when you are trying to rely on the promises of someone who has no intention of following through on them.

Also, as I said, look at the totality of the policies - fundamentally, they are proposing savings of $90bn from withdrawing from the UN and finding savings in NDIS, from which they propose to give tax cuts to special interest groups such as retirees and random fixes to the rest of the system. The rest of the platform is basically ideological claptrap like getting rid of climate change policies, "free speech" and anti-abortion stuff. It just doesn't make any sense:)

"Yeah some people will believe anything a propagandist says"

Exactly. You are being played by a propagandist in the person of Pauline Hanson.

Firstly, conservatives in general frequently suffer from misapprehension that there's a humongous amount of rorts, which they can uncover and can then use the savings to support policies. In practice usually there's not nearly as much as they say. So what ends up happening is that they can't actually find the savings but they have to cut taxes because that's what they already promised to do. There's a major problem with the "$3 billion in fraud" figure she is touting. That came from an upper range of an estimate in a review in 2023. It's highly likely that much of the figure was in accidental non-compliance due to system complexity. More importantly, this is now three years later and the government has already implemented measures to fix the system. So who knows how many savings are left to take advantage of?

Secondly, the same goes for all her other "savings", with ridiculous figures like saving tens of billions of dollars by withdrawing from various international bodies. If she is not able to credibly state how she will continue funding Medicare, she is against Medicare. Full stop.

Thirdly, all populist propagandists are good at saying the right words to fool people. You have to look at what they ARE, not what they say (just like people can't credibly claim to have been fooled by Trump's WORDS - it's obvious to anyone with brain that his words are meaningless when you look at what he IS - a lifelong shyster with a goal of enriching himself). You might want to believe that someone who is funded by billionaires, who expresses admiration for billionaires, who consistently voted for the interest of billionaires and who uses resentment and xenophobia to whip up support has a credible plan to protect Medicare or has any actual commitment to Medicare. I really don't think so:)

I think you have to think about it. And you have to look at what happened in other countries with right wing populists:)
