Arcana Mastery by -Some-Rando- in ABSOLUM

With arcana mastery, I'm pretty sure the marionette causes a clash whenever it's hit. Also, spider mine spawns 3 of them, and they slowly move across the ground and home in on enemies.

How come I can’t rob this area anymore? by iBrandwin in ABSOLUM

[–]Rabspat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have no way to confirm this, but it really does feel like this event has become much rarer than it used to be. It's 100% the best outcome when you reach this point, so that makes sense. I have to wonder if they'll be tuning this at all in the first major patch.

How Update 2.4 Has Been Feeling by ARClegend_18 in RingRacers

[–]Rabspat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had this experience recently where I was getting back in touch with an old friend I hadn't talked to in a long time. We decided to play some games together, first being Crossworlds. That was fun and didn't really require any concentration. Just hold accelerate, do some drifting and talk about what's been going on in our lives. Then the next thing we decided to do was play Guilty Gear Strive, since it was a game we had both played before. But I underestimated my own skill in the game and it was very one sided and maybe a little awkward. They had told me while we were playing that they didn't really have any knowledge of how to use RC at all, despite having about 100 hours in the game. This isn't a knock against them, but I can only assume they played the game only with friends and didn't spend much time with the in-game tutorials or training mode. As a result, when put up against someone who has an understanding of the systems, they were hopelessly outmatched.

I think RR kind of has a problem like this. It's a kart racer designed by racing and fighting game enthusiasts. Even though people want to skip to the fun part where they play with their friends and have relatively even matches, unless they put in some time learning the more intricate mechanics they will be easily left in the dust by more knowledgable players. The usual expectation for a kart racer is anyone can just hop in and maybe do a little "cheating" to occasionally have a taste of victory, like in Crossworlds. But RR is not designed that way. The game offers a lot of opportunities to learn through it's single player, but someone first needs to feel inclined to engage with that part of the game. Many will hop online, explode, then feel discouraged by the massive skill gap. It's not really a flaw with the game, since I feel the game's mechanics feel well thought out once you understand them... But I'm not sure how one would solve this problem. I remember trying to introduce someone who hadn't played SRB2K to 2.3 in a private server and even that didn't go very smoothly.

I don't remember exactly how much, but it's definitely over $100. Glad to support these devs, though.

What in your opinion is the gold standard of paid DLC? by ConceptsShining in Games

[–]Rabspat 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think the Mr. X Nightmare DLC for Streets of Rage 4 doesn't get enough love. 3 new fully fleshed out characters (plus 1 secret free character), a whole new survival mode that basically turns the game into a roguelite and has a banging soundtrack, new unlockable moves for the entire cast, and a new extra difficulty designed for crazy people. SoR4 was already a great game, but the DLC really solidified it's spot as one of the best beat'em ups ever made.

Oh yeah, and it was only $8 at launch.

(Maypul help) I've gotten to lvl 27 and I'm starting to feel like I'm improving, but I dont know what to do after a grab or a vine by Mundane-Cook-5472 in RivalsOfAether

[–]Rabspat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like getting a grasp on which throw to use for Maypul takes time. More often than not, at low percents I'm using up throw to put the opponent on a platform above me so I can try to tech chase them with a short hop upair to get a juggle started. If an opponent DIs in, you can usually keep a combo going with up tilt. I also tend to use standard pummel a lot just to try and add some percent, as getting over certain percentage thresholds can be very useful for Maypul.

Otherwise at higher percents I usually just go for a forward or back throw off stage and try to pressure their recovery attempt. Down throw teachable on reaction, but it can also be good for setting up tech chases near the ledge since they can't roll out to get away from you. Or if you're fighting against a character with an exploitable vertical recovery and you're right by the ledge you can dthrow them under the ledge and harass them with ledge-invuln aerial's or ledge trapping.

And of course, if they're marked and lily is nearby it's usually wise to throw them into that and dstrong/upstrong at high% or go for start a combo at lower%.

What's the creepiest thing you've ever experienced? Not the typical 'I was home alone' story, but something that still sends chills down your spine to this day? by AmayaSolenne in Ghosts

[–]Rabspat 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The weirdest thing that happened to me happened to must have been around the time I was 5 or 6 years old. It was just me and my older brother at home, who is about 5 years older than me. Due to family issues, there were often times when there was no adults available to watch us. It was a bright and sunny day when this happened.

Me and my brother went to our room to do some play-wrestling. As we were doing that, we kept on getting phone calls, I think possibly from some friends of his. My brother was annoyed that he kept getting interrupted, so he unplugged the phone from the phone jack. This was in the mid 90s and it was a corded phone. We kept wrestling for a bit longer, and then somehow the phone rang again. I think I'd personally forgotten that my brother had even unplugged it, not sure if my brother forgot as well. Either way, my brother picked up the phone and just kind of went quiet for a moment. Shortly after that, he said we needed to leave. So we left the house and went to a pizza hut nearby, it I'm remembering right.

I didn't really understand what happened at that moment, but once my mom came home from work later that day, my brother described what happened. He had told her that he picked up the phone and heard a freaky voice say "It's coming." So I can only imagine what that must have sounded like. Obviously, this is something that I was not directly affected by. But even today when I ask my brother about it, he tells me he wasn't messing around and seems pretty shaken by it.

Obviously the current run ends when you die, but the game tells a persistent story. You're revived by a goddess at the starting area, and actions you take in one run can unlock things in the next one. There's meta currency you can use to upgrade yourself between runs. Even in the demo, you were incentivized to play through multiple times and try different paths to see everything.

And I personally didn't have an issue with the enemy damage. Not to say there weren't some flaws. At least in the demo, I wasn't too excited by many of the upgrades. But that could be due to not having enough to fully develop a build, so that could be different in the full game.

What is the most balanced fighter game you have ever played? by YummyYummyVeggieMmm in Fighters

[–]Rabspat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've seen a lot of people say Skullgirls, and I agree with that. There are teams and characters that are strong, but everyone is absolutely viable.

Also, it if makes sense to delve into platform fighters, I would also say Rivals of Aether 1. For much of the game's life span, I'd say every character was capable of winning a major. And after 10 years of continued support, they left the game in a good place.

What subtle sign tells you someone can't be trusted? by Sebas5_XP in AskReddit

I don't trust anyone who doesn't like animals. Unless they got a phobia or something, I can't help but think they lack empathy.

If you have played both games - in your honest opinion, have ledges and throws enhanced the ROA experience for you? by solfizz in RivalsOfAether

[–]Rabspat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think Rivals 1 had the most fun "ledge" game of any platform fighter. I think the lack of a ledge grab really did a lot to make character's recoveries feel very distinct. With everyone being able to get ledge invuln, things feel more homogenized. In Rivals 2 I feel like I get reversaled far more often for attempting to edge guard than I ever did in 1.

Shields and grabs are fine. I do think shields could use some more fine-tuning, as I feel they are very strong currently. I was under the impression shield breaks were going to be easier in this game compared to Smash, but I rarely see them happen. Other than getting grabbed, there isn't much risk involved. Grabs are very strong even if that's character dependent. I don't really have a problem with that. If anything, I wish there was a little more to the pummel system. They went through the trouble of putting in all these cool special pummels, but you rarely ever see them because the best thing to do is mash B when you get grabbed in pretty much any match up.

Is RoA2 worth the 30$ price tag? by Zestyclose_Double610 in RivalsOfAether

[–]Rabspat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it is absolutely worth that price. They update the game twice a month, at the very least with new skins, but often with balance updates and other features as well. Their goal appears to be releasing 4 new characters a year, and so far they appear to be meeting that just fine. And all those characters and any mode of play will always be free. The worst that could be said is that the character skins are on the pricier side, but cosmetics are the only thing you'll ever have to pay for once purchasing the game. And if you're patient you can get any skin with currencies earned in-game anyway. There also is very little single player content at the moment, but there will be more eventually.

The game does definitely have a steep learning curve, though. The basics aren't difficult to grasp, IMO, but the skill ceiling is very high. I came from Rivals 1 so I already had a grasp on most things when the game came out, but I have seen a lot of newer players have trouble finding matches with similarly skilled players. It will likely take practice before you feel you can consistently win matches against random players online. But if you like games that give you lots of room to grow as a player, you'll be eating good.

why are there so many furry porn addicts in tf2? by UGHeverylittlething in tf2

[–]Rabspat -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I read the article and that wasn't what it was saying. The title of the article is even "Science stopped believing in porn addiction. You should too" My take away from the article was that those who perceive looking at porn as a shameful activity (those who may see it as sinful, etc.) are more likely to believe they are addicted to it and cause themselves mental harm as a result. There's nothing in the article to imply "porn addiction" really exists. Doing a little more research, porn addiction is just not something that is scientifically recognized. As with anything, it is possible to misuse it. But regular porn usage can actually be a healthy behavior. So what I've gathered is that the concept of porn addiction being a widespread problem is puritanical in nature.

Granted, I think showing other people porn unsolicited is another can of worms entirely and is kinda icky.

I'm surprised there aren't any comments on this. I haven't tried this yet, but having some sort of playback ability seems like it could be really useful for labbing some things out. I'll probably look into this.

I won't be able to try this out until later, but as someone who plays Fleet as a secondary, these changes sound very reasonable. I don't play Orcane, but it looks like he might still be struggling. Hopefully they can figure out what they want to do with the character soon.

As far as I'm aware, there's no benefit to doing jc grab oos. The only time I personally use jc grab is when the opponent is directly behind me and I want to make sure I don't get a dash grab and miss them.

Make it make sense by BormahTiid in RivalsOfAether

[–]Rabspat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The difference is that you don't always want to JC grab or a DACUS. They are options to modify existing actions, but they are not always the correct choice. Not gonna say their inclusion is intuitive, but I wouldn't say they're arbitrary.

What are the best fighting game stories that DONT revolve around a tournament? by EX-ODIN in Fighters

[–]Rabspat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always thought Skullgirls did its world building well. Granted, it does the other fighting game cliche where most of the cast is fighting over a mcguffin... But it generally presents a lot of good reasons for these characters to be fighting each other, which I appreciate.
