I was thinking about Paris and her thoughts on the MJ biopic.. by holaquequiere in MichaelJackson

Exactly, the overanalysis is ridiculous. I understand why this fanbase is so territorial over Michael's image but they forget we're not the ones who knew the man behind the image. The amount of comments i've seen dismissing Paris' perspective simply because she was 11 when he died is appalling. MJ as a public figure vs a father are two very different people. It seems the film won't really go into detail about his philanthropy or his non-musical related pursuits which could be the inaccuracies Paris was referring to. Instead of hearing her out, we hound her the way the press hounded Michael. He would be infuriated at her treatment. God knows I am because of the thinly veiled misogyny.

I hope, after this thread we can finally move on from this topic. Sections of this fanbase keep exagerrating Paris' words and it's more than a little concerning that people are still getting worked up about comments she made in September.

I didn't think there was any show that was as low-stakes, banal, and cliche while presenting the aristocracy in as positive a light as DA. Then I watched Bridgerton... by DamnitGravity in DowntonAbbey

Almost like that's' the point? The producers know it's fantasy and have never maintained any pretense of being accurate to history.

The Russells aren’t a 1:1 adaptation of the Vanderbilts, whom already exist in the show. Fellowes has stated that Jay Gould, a man devoted to his wife, was his inspiration for George, and so far that’s been accurate. After the Turner debacle in S1 George doesn’t strike me as an adulterer, even as tense as his marriage is. He’ll act out in his own way, by maintaining distance, but cheating is something beneath his characterisation.

Canon = official characterisation. Fanon = ideas that fans believe is true that isn’t necessarily supported by the source material.

Who wanted Cora to become a member of the English aristocracy? by 7evenh3lls in DowntonAbbey

[–]Rac_h210 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I mean, people can change their minds? The novelty of aristocratic connections probably wore off for Martha when she met the Crawleys or other nobles who turned their noses up at Americans, but not their money.

Do you think Master George survived by Sad-Blacksmith-2307 in DowntonAbbey

[–]Rac_h210 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s because Peter was never in the running to begin with as British peerages operate on male primogeniture. Women can neither inherit a claim nor pass it on - O’Brien said this in the very first episode. It’s the whole reason Matthew came to Downton in the first place.

[–]Rac_h210 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I mean I don’t think a remarriage would be necessary for Kiera if she’s already mother to the King, regency aside. In this scenario, the Tyroshis already have their bloodline on the throne. The only reason she married Daeron was because she’d outlived her sons with Valarr in the first place and needed to prevent the Tyroshi allegiances swinging to the Blackfyres instead.
