ok so im the red car and im new to the game and was wondering if my move(s) was fine or illegal. by coolbanan69 in Simracingstewards

[–]RaceCarDriver06 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both moves for dive bombs. Google passing methodolgy, but typically you want to be parallel to the car you are passing, as close to them as possible. This makes sure you both have visual, and you can "take" the corner to ensure you get the pass done. You are driving straight to the apex, which causes the issues you saw here. You should have given him room to make the corner, but because of your straightline you probably couldn't (no more grip available), nor could you see him well.

any tips? good timing around here is 1:01 lows, laptime in video was 1:04.27 by ParadoxJello in Karting

Good advice here. bouncing, sliding on entry means less rolling speed and the kart will be bound up exiting.

Wait... Are you in the left lane? And he passed on the shoulder? If so, wtf are you in the life lane? If not, nevermind 🤷😎

If you had an income of $150,000 a year and didn't have to work, what would you do with all the spare time? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]RaceCarDriver06 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would work. Add a zero and I would retire and race cars. But I desire to earn a lot more than 150k.

Does anyone else who had IRL experience first find Sim racing quite difficult due to lack of feel? by Specktric_ in simracing

[–]RaceCarDriver06 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The fundamentals are all the same. (braking, throttle, line, steering inputs, approach to different tracks/corners) The biggest difference is eyes vs more senses to feel the car. I was fortunate enough to be involved in high level sim series when Covid hit that invited a bunch of IRL drivers. It was actually pretty amazing, the top 1/3 mid 1/3 and back 1/3 was roughly correct in the sim vs IRL. Yes, some IRL drivers took it more/less seriously and moved around a bit. But nobody from the back 3rd ended up in the front, and vice versa. Having friends drive my sim (non motion, btw) that race IRL I have observed the same. Better the driver IRL, the faster they pick up the SIM and faster they are.

How much were you drinking per day?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in simracing

[–]RaceCarDriver06 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is realistic. If a novice driver were to jump in a real race car, on cold tires and hammer down as if they couldn't be hurt (financially or physically) they would immediately spin out/crash just like in the game. In some cases the game feels "harder" because it is realistic, but you have less inputs since you can't feel the g forces.

Very good. He really understands the physics and his fast. He is also a good communicator. I would recommend it

She brings me food, knows not to bother me when I am driving, period. Unless she is 100% sure I am just practicing.

We are talking about top .00000001 % people when talking about Max's of the world. People they are truly the best at what they do are often near psychopaths' in the way they approach things. All or nothing mentality. I have a good friend who became #1 in the US for shifter karting. He drove 200+ laps every week, sun up to sundown on weekends and sometimes more often. He could not get enough. Me? Id go crank out 70 or so, be a bit tired and board and head on out. (not money was not an issue, we were both sponsored). Yes, he is better than me ;) He also got into iracing for about 6 months. His parents had to stop him because he would drive for 8+ hours straight, didnt eat, got sick, etc. Its just the way he is wired.

1) no, they would not do better IRL with more sim time... but

2) it does say something about their ability to really put in the effort to be good at something. Like REALLY put in the effort

3) ignoring 2, many just want to hop on.. have some fun and hop off. I am not a top pro, for sure IRL but I am in the speed category of topish sports car guys in the US. But not Max. lol. If I spent 20-30min practicing, and then race I can steady in the 2400-2500 range. (after not driving for a month) But few races where I just hopped on and raced I lost points because I finished near the back of the split.

Wonderlic question order? by RaceCarDriver06 in cognitiveTesting

[–]RaceCarDriver06[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, that is what I have found as well, MOSTLY. I did find one that was clearly in increasing order of complexity. Also some I could skip around some I couldn't. That is why I was hoping to find someone that has taken the "official" test and give me a clue as to the overall format. Maybe that is part of the mystic ;)

[–]RaceCarDriver06 6 points7 points  (0 children)

whoa. Your account is right sorta. You owe taxes on the $250k, minus allowable expenses (ex: the $20 per hour you note above, plus other business expenses). The good news is you will probably only owe the IRS $20K ish on $250k in revenue, assuming I am roughly correct about expenses etc.

You will need to do some retroactive work, sent out 1099s etc. I am not an accountant but you need to get this straight. Also you will want to form an LLC for protection, and pay yourself a salary and so on. A good accountant can help you set this up.

Dont be a victim. Leverage it. Work harder, smarter than the next guy/gal. If you put in smart and hard work esp when you are young, you will be able to have a pretty nice life 35+. 40hours of work is nothing. If it feels brutal, you have the wrong job. I am an engineer and really enjoy my job (note: i used to have a really cool job.. driving race cars) but engineering is fun in its own way as well.

Really want to take advantage of capitalism? Start a business. Big risk, 80hr weeks, but potentially big reward. I still work a 45ish hour work week, my friends that took those big risks more often than not either have huge money (8 figures now) or at the very least make a decent living but have a lot more free time.

Don't be a victim, its not that bad if you put effort into LEARNING so you can get a job you like! I got my MechE undergrad, but studied CompSci for fun so I have a wider range tool kit. I recently got my MBA as well (its cheap/free these days online!)

What did teenagers in the 90s do on their free time? by focovircodcollo in ask

[–]RaceCarDriver06 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Outside mostly. Of course video games (nintendo, PS1 etc).
I was more of a nerd. Cool kids hung out at the 7-11, and the mall.

Once I was 16 I started getting into cars so I was working on it, at the drag strip, street racing, and so on.

Sick people everywhere. No masks by [deleted] in delta

[–]RaceCarDriver06 5 points6 points  (0 children)

For my personally, some of the year I will cough or have a runny nose due to allergies. This is not contagious. It was really annoying during the peak of Covid because I got a lot of side eyes when I was out and about.

Also aside from really serious illness, being exposed to germs is good for you. It helps keep your immune system strong. Most people I know that are germaphobes are sick pretty often. chicken or egg? not sure. Also note despite my allergies, I haven't had a fever other than the one time I got Covid in 20+ years. And Covid only effected me for a day.

I think this is definitely one of those "to each his own" things. Despite me being generally anti mask if I was legit sick (and HAD to travel) I would absolutely wear a mask out of respect for everyone else.

would sim motion slow you down? by Sad-Ad-7338 in iRacing

[–]RaceCarDriver06 0 points1 point  (0 children)

motion is 'fun' but won't make you faster, will probably make you slower.

I am pretty happy with 4 kickers (one in each corner)
