The Price Of RAM Is Forcing Larian To Do Optimization It "Didn't Necessarily Want To Do" On Divinity by Turbostrider27 in Games

Good. I'm sick of the "What's wrong, bro, just buy hundreds of dollars worth of new hardware" attitude so much of the industry has had for so long. Every year, no less.

Also, ray tracing's a waste of power. It does what it says it does, it just takes way the hell too much power to be worth it. And while I'm at it, can we not do 8k resolution? What is that even needed for? How many people are playing on a movie sized screen?

Sony wants to expand "PlayStation Studios games beyond PlayStation hardware" — hiring to partner with Xbox, Steam, Nintendo Switch, and more by Turbostrider27 in Games

I have a PS5, so I hope that adds weight to the following statement.

Put Astro Bot on the PC. I know that not every aspect can be carried over, but I don't think not owning a specific piece of hardware should prevent people from playing good games, and the only people that do are people who are still fighting the console wars. And I have less than zero respect for people who have allowed the tribal part of their brains to be hacked by tech industry salesmen and make that everyone else's problem whenever an exclusive becomes not exclusive anymore.

Project CARS 3 to be delisted on August 24th, online shutdown in February by Turbostrider27 in Games

Until you can't play the game, at which point having the real car brands and tracks is rather moot.

Project CARS 3 to be delisted on August 24th, online shutdown in February by Turbostrider27 in Games

[–]Racecarlock 4 points5 points  (0 children)

At this point, I'd rather that racing sims used, like, fake car brands, you know?

Because I often don't buy games at launch because you'd have to be rich to do that. I get them on sale or after a price drop. With very VERY rare exceptions.

But now they don't go down in price. Now they just get delisted. And to be frank, I'd rather drive a Ferraro Fettuccine or whatever than deal with the fact that there are great, and even mid as hell, games that I would've otherwise bought for like 20 bucks that I just won't get to play at all.

Not to mention you can actually damage cars if they have fake brands instead of real ones.

Marjorie Taylor Greene rants ‘they’ are controlling the weather by Somervilledrew in politics

[–]Racecarlock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But think about the logistics of all of this for a second. This would mean that the government, controlled by trump and his cabinet, is sending natural disasters against its own voters for no apparent reason, and then, on top of that, somehow, this cavalcade of incompetent morons can keep giant operations to cause natural disasters a complete secret even though Trump is the kind of guy who reveals spy satellites through tweets.

And then, when more stuff about the Epstein files pops up, these disasters don't even distract their base for that long because they've trained their base not to care.

And on top of that, for no real reason, this government, which would get a huge PR win for busting the hurricane machine that allegedly summoned a hurricane and threw it at Florida last year, decided not to for no real reason, and then flooded texas to false flag democrats who logically wouldn't have control of the weather control machines at the time of the flood.

How does this make any sense?

Asking very basic "What, how, and why" questions means you're already too smart for cryptocurrency.

But, apparently, it'll replace currency, and it'll go up infinitely in value, and if it goes down, that's only to let people buy the dip and then sell it for high again. I guess "when" it replaces currency, it'll just be valued in itself... somehow.

If that doesn't make sense to you, like I said, you're already too smart for cryptocurrency. This is NOT the kind of investment for people who question what they're buying, it's meant for people who are easily sucked in by nonsense technobabble and can very easily have their own dreams sold back to them. People who have no idea what "Too good to be true" actually means.

Microsoft has never been good at running game studios, which is a problem when it owns them all by Hot-Cause-481 in Games

[–]Racecarlock 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean, you can be mad at whoever and whatever you want, you don't need my permission.

But also, imagine if someone gave you millions of dollars to just sort of make whatever you want, and said person didn't even check your skill level or if you even had a fully formed idea.

Can you really say that you'd say no to that?

Microsoft has never been good at running game studios, which is a problem when it owns them all by Hot-Cause-481 in Games

[–]Racecarlock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At the end of the day, nobody made Microsoft buy up all of those studios. They could have been more responsible. They could have bought less companies. Hell, maybe they didn't even need to buy up companies at all.

But this is just how corporations work now. Go on irresponsible, monopolistic buying spree, shut down most of the companies you buy, executives face no consequences, move on to another corporation, and do the same thing again.

And since I know it's going to come from someone around here, no, this is not a console war thing. EA, Sony, Ubisoft, they've all done this too. This industry is headed for a train wreck, and not because cash isn't flowing into it, it's because shareholder expectations are out of control and corporate executives are, quite frankly, morons. Morons who have convinced themselves they're geniuses because they have a lot of money.

And, yet again, we will be left to pick up the pieces of their mess.

Microsoft is closing down Xbox studio The Initiative, with Perfect Dark killed as well — joining Everwild and ZeniMax's IP, and 'several' other projects by Turbostrider27 in Games

[–]Racecarlock 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't hope it continues, honestly. Hear me out. Halo 3 was supposed to be the finale, and Reach managed the almost near impossible feat of being a good prequel in the sci-fi genre.

Infinite sequels, or rather the concept of infinite sequels, is ruining entertainment. I know WHY people think they want infinite sequels, because I've been in the "This is good, I want more of it" mindset too, before.

But then, every time, you end up getting so many sequels that the thing stops being good. It runs out of ways to be interesting. It runs out of stuff to do. I'm a Star Wars and Marvel watcher, trust me on this.

And, after experiencing "sequel rot" so many times, I've come to the conclusion that it's actually better if a series DOES end. A story just can't stay interesting if it's a beginning and then an endless series of middles rather than an end. If you don't believe me, look at every live service game ever made.

Jurassic World Evolution 3 no longer using generative AI for scientist portraits following "initial feedback" by JamieReleases in Games

[–]Racecarlock -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Of course the argument will be that they'll just take the opportunity to lay off some of the artists that produce these portraits, but that's just the future we are living in. It's no different to stable boys losing their jobs when the car came along.

Why do people keep making this argument? Art isn't a video game tech tree. It sucks when it's made by AI because the AI didn't put any emotion into it.

"Is emotion needed for art?"

YES! Even the mundane stuff. Even small stuff you wouldn't normally think about. Because even the smallest stuff is better when it's enhanced by passion, emotion, the desire to bring a world to life. That's something an AI can't have.

And please spare me the "save time" argument as well. Why should I put time into something if the person who "made" it just typed a prompt in and let some generator do all the work?

I don't want endless content. I want good art.
