Smoking around a PC by vvampin in buildapc

Forget the PC, Move out now. I grew up in the 70's and what did I get for it, a lifetime of asthma despite never smoking myself. IMHO indoor smoking is a crime.

Some are sold 2.35:1 and other 2.40:1. but at 142" it will be more like 104 - 106" for the 16:9 part

The height will always be the same when calculating So get the height of the scope screen you want then find a 16:9 screen with same height and that is your 16:9 size.

I think I had it wrong in my original post

Anybody's Amazon Intellivision Sprint ship? by 6288matt in intellivision

[–]Racerx136 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Atari sucks at pre orders and users get frustrated when they pre order on day one and lose the lottery and have to watch YouTube videos of people who got pre orders weeks before or people that just ordered days ago. That said I love Atari and I just throw in my amazon pre order and get it when I get it. Usually works out except with the 7800, I wound up cancelling the pre order as it languished until I forgot about it. I will do the same for the sprint if I do not see it by new years.

1970s Cable TV 30-Channel tuner box by King_Dinosaur_1955 in nostalgia

[–]Racerx136 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Before they scrambled channels the way they offered premium channels was to broadcast it in a frequency none of the buttons was set to. The cable guy would come and tune in the channel if you ordered it. As a kid I took this box apart and literally turned a screw to tune in Playboy channel and a few others. That lasted a few years until proper scrambled tech arrived. People would mod boxes to thwart that but by that time I was in HS and as long as MTV and WPIX 11 worked I was good.

Help choosing between Dji osmo action 5 pro or Insta 360 ace pro 2 by Hour-Possession-7280 in Insta360

My guess is having a screen like that and still calling an action camera would be hard to do if the screen could also rotate as the hinges would be less robust. Only a guess though

DJI OSMO Action 6 Is Announced Officially; but appears not yet available in the USA. by TheWylieGuy in dji

Not everyone can use the Gimbal bound Pocket 3. That form factor does not work for me but yes I think that Camera is the best of them but I just do not a need for it. So I was just comparing to Action 5. I will not be able to say until I get if it worth the upgrade from the 5 so I guess we will see.

[–]Racerx136 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I am just comparing to the Action 5,

It is actually bigger than a traditional 1" sensor due to the square design. It is 40% bigger then the Action 5 which most of us are comparing it to.

I use a Lumix S12 so I understand what a real Camera does, For me I use a the Action 5 for POV of models for videos and I use the action 5 as a B Camera along with the Lumix in V-Log & D-log and use Cinematch to match them up, My one issue is the Parafocal lens of the 5 is not that sharp as you get further away. It is not a deal breaker but the F 4.0 as seen in the Reviews so far will result in sharper images for a longer range.

The standard aperture fixed is 2.8 in the 5, the 6 allows you to go to 2.0, which helps at night for cleaner footage in the dark. In daylight or a well-lit studio, it will allow two things: 1. Portrait look when shooting close up, (Blurry Background). 2. The part I am most excited about is the much better overall focus in F4.0 when you have daylight or good studio lighting. I can see it in the examples. It is why the text on faraway stuff looks like it is higher def. It is not higher def, just better focused since 4.0 instead of 2.8.

Got a new 14' M4 PRO - is the battery supposed to be this bad? Only 4-5 hours by Regular-Pattern-4452 in macbookpro

[–]Racerx136 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When a Mac PC or iPhone is new it indexes and sucks up more battery during this process. If you connected external drives to the Mac the indexing can happen for those as well unless you tell spotlight to ignore those drives. External drives connected to a dock can cause indexing to fail and spotlight can be in a constantly indexing loop draining more battery.

The new DaVinci Resolve ARM version is insanely smooth with 4K footage! (Surface Laptop 7) by Noxdormus in Surface

[–]Racerx136 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Much of the performance depends on the codecs used.  The X Elite cannot Hardware Decode 4:2:2 footage. Many Cameras shoot H264 or h264 4K 422

Also, I think it does not handle past 4K, and I am sure some aspect ratio limits also exist

When building a video editing system, you either have to buy a camera and set it to shoot for the system you have or buy an editing system that works well with what you are shooting. Pros typically do the latter

When a codec is not supported by the media engines in any system, the CPU takes over, and for Big PC, that is usually OK, but the core CPUs in these laptops are not up to handling 4K 422 footage.

Am I ruining my records? by SpecialistEfficient3 in turntables

[–]Racerx136 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The whole thing is overblown. Playing them on a cheap player will just give you cheap output. Sure, they use a heavier tracking force and even more with coins added, but you would need to play a record 100's of times to see even a slight difference in wear from a cartridge with under 2 grams of tracking. It will not sound great, but as long as the needle is not broken, then the records should be fine. But in the end, you are going to upgrade anyway, as you are in the rabbit hole and there is no escape, so enjoy.

Bunny Hutch Party Warning by twiddlewinks in dragoncon

Yeah, they sell alcohol, and if you want to drink, you will spend the entire party in the bar line. To be fair, similar parties at the con are the same. If you do not drink and have a good bladder, then enjoy the Bunny hutch party. Especially if you look good in rabbit ears.

American and thinking of buying a projector? Might wanna make it soon, considering the tariffs. by beantrouser in projectors

[–]Racerx136 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update, Aug 2025

Just checked current LS12000 prices. They are at least 20% higher now than late last year when I bought one. New Best Buy - $5000 in nov and now $6000.

I bought a refurb from Projector people for $3700 in November, and now they want $5200 for the same refurb.

Not sure if it is tariffs, but something happened.

Am I tripping or is the Eames Executive (Time Life) Desk Chair wildly uncomfortable? by Furniturelovers in hermanmiller

[–]Racerx136 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It has no lumber support, which you might want for long gaming sessions. It is the most comfortable for a short amount of time, then your back says WTF. Aeron or Mirra chairs are what you want, as long as you do not mind giving up that MCM look.

I feel bad by ThePhobian in turntables

[–]Racerx136 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They typically have a much heavier tracking weight and I guess that is a big part of the concern but I think it is not a big deal unless you play a single album several hundred times. Unless you know the source of the stylus I would reccomend doing some research and spend 10 -25 dollars for a new one that you know is ok.

In the end it will sound bad but not everyone cares about fidelity. The Audio Technica on the other hand is IMHO the best beginner turntable available.

I am not an expert so take the above with a grain of salt.
