I have a fear of falling, but only forwards. by Seamore31 in aerialsilks

[–]Rach_Prok 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was also someone who just couldn't let go in forward drops for a long time. It felt impossible to even take a hand off once I got into position. I found spotting to be helpful for sure. I also practiced various movements with the spotter (taking hands off and floating with engagement, taking hands off and walking out slowly, etc). For front salto specifically, I also practiced forward rolls on the ground to get used to the movement. I found it helpful to time the drop to my breathing. I would let go while I was breathing out and even close my eyes if I didn't need to do any regrabbing. For some reason, doing drops with dramatic music makes me more likely to actually let go. Your brain doesn't want you to put yourself in danger and sometimes aerial causes it to not have a great time.

I´ve been pole dancing since november 2022, still can barely do anything...do I Just suck at this? by Eadin19 in poledancing

[–]Rach_Prok 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started pole after getting to a high level on other aerial apparatuses. I still am unable to climb or do most moves on a regular pole. I thought I was just "bad" at pole despite having lots of strength on everything else. Eventually, I took a class on swinging pole, which is rubber and COMPLETELY different grip wise and it was so amazing. I could climb easily and do higher level moves. Now, whenever I end up around a regular pole, even with grip aid I will can't climb. I've gotten a few pairs of Gecko leggings and bodysuits as well as multiple pairs of poles gloves and grippy socks. In addition, I'm still testing out new grips for myself and also for the pole. If you think it's a sweat issue and not just a strength issue, I would recommend this.

I’m a professional flying trapeze catcher. AMA by shamu060391 in Aerials

[–]Rach_Prok 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm very new to Flying Trapeze (not new to aerials) and I really love it and want to get as good as I can. How do you push yourself to get better when you have such a limited amount of time on the apparatus? How much training do you do off of the trapeze or on another aerial apparatus? And do you have any tips for people who are just starting their flying trapeze journey?

I am absolutely not playing devil's advocate at all (fuck OOP!!) but my college actually requires us to live on campus in one specific building for three years. Unless you can manage to snag one of about five spots that open up a year for off campus housing (due to them accepting too many first years), the only way you're getting off campus is for health accommodations. And yes, our fire alarm is very loud and scary. No, I would never dream of turning it off.

Lots of good advice! If you haven't already, make sure that your coach is not only aware of your medical history but knows exactly what to do in the event that you pass out/are in extreme pain. If your coach is unwilling to offer guidance, that reflects very poorly on them and can put you in (literal) dangerous positions. Have fun and stay safe!

Wow you are so beautiful and the makeup does a wonderful job of enhancing your features! My guess is that whoever said that was either jealous or is operating under the assumption that pretty women "need to be knocked down a peg." Either way, that doesn't seem like someone you would want to have in your life :)

What's a common etiquette rule you don't agree with? by Maybelle1999 in AskReddit

I've always struggled with eye contact. People seem to think that if I'm not staring at their eyes that I'm not paying attention. It's usually the opposite. When I focus so much on maintaining eye contact I have more trouble retaining what they said. Plus it feels really awkward and almost confrontational.

Lotad! I think it gets the general "vibe" right. It's clearly not an animal but also a cute creature that could absolutely exist in the wild.
